July 16, 201212 yr Review: A- "Turn Up the Radio" is the third single from Madonna's album MDNA, which hasn't become the blockbuster fans thought it would become, but is still one of the five biggest selling albums of the year. Saying that both Madonna and Interscope marketed MDNA poorly is an understatement; it is an excellent album, but the choice of singles have been underwhelming until now. "Turn Up the Radio" should have been the first single, not the third. The song is light, fun and has a killer hook. It will remind a lot of listeners of Sheryl Crow's 2002 hit "Soak Up the Sun." But this is not a "Born This Way" situation where Madonna took a song, copied the music note for note, and just changed the lyrics. "It was time that I opened my eyes/I’m leaving the past behind/Nothing’s ever what it seems/Including this time and these crazy dreams," Madonna declares in this smashing anthem that makes one want to ride on the top of a car on a hot summer day. August 2, 201212 yr Any predictions for where it will peak in the UK. I say No.78 as it will at least have some attention.
August 2, 201212 yr I don't think it will quite make the Top 100. There's only a Digital Remix EP being released next week, and I believe Girl Gone Wild had more release formats than just the one and that helped it get into the Top 75. Also, I've not seen the video on TV at all or heard it on the radio - I saw the GGW video a couple of times and it was used in the advertisement of Truth or Dare. Turn Up the Radio will have a boost from the tour, but not one big enough to get it into the Top 100. I would love to be proved wrong though! I'm going to take a wild guess and predict a position of #121 and then fall out of the Top 200.
August 2, 201212 yr I'm still waiting to see the GGW and GMAYL videos on UK tv yet so I can't see TUTR video having much chance. GGW had a 12" pic disc, a 2 track cd and digital EP in the UK (the 8 track maxi cd wasn't a UK release). No plans for a two track cd even this time!.
