Singles

Carly Rae Jepsen retains her hold at the No.1 spot on the ARIA Singles Chart this week with "Call Me Maybe", now spending a third week at the top, and also keeping Nicki Minaj at No.2 for a fifth straight week with her "Starships".

One Direction (UK) touched down in Sydney this past week to mass hysteria, and not only has their album stayed at No.1, their second single "One Thing" jumps up three places to a new peak of No.3, which pushes down "We Are Young" for fun and Janelle Monae to No.4 after several weeks sitting at No.3.

"Lego House" for Ed Sheeran holds at No.5 for a second week, and after two weeks at No.4, Labrinth's "Earthquake" drops down a couple of spots to No.6. Plus also holding this week is Skrillex with his "Bangarang" track at No.7.

Katy Perry returns to the Top 10 at No.8 (HP-5) with her latest track "Part of Me" now spending a third week inside the Top10, and also making a return to the Top 10 are One Direction and their first single "What Makes You Beautiful", up nine places to No.10, accumulating an eighth week inside the Top 10. Between these two returnees we see Timomatic drop back one place to No.9 with his second single (and second Top 10 entry), "If Looks Could Kill".

NEW PEAKS & MOVERS: After three weeks at No.20, Far East Movement and Justin Bieber jump up five places to a new peak of No.15. B.o.B leaped into the Top 50 last week at No.21 with his new track "So Good", and this week it rises up into the Top 20 four places to No.17. It also pulls back into the Top 20 Florence + the Machine with "Never Let Me Go" which debuted at No.19 three weeks ago and is up to a new peak of No.18 this week.

Outasight sees his first entry here "Tonight is the Night" climb three places to No.23, and after re-appearing last week at No.67, Rihanna's "Where Have You Been" leaps up forty-two places to No.25 this week, possibly also helped by her visit to Australia last week for the premiere of her first film appearance in 'Battleship'.

We the Kings jump up seven places to a new peak of No.29 for their latest track "Say You Like Me", and after debuting at No.42 last week, Pitbull's theme for 'Men in Black III' is up three places to a new peak of No.39. Plus returning to the Top 40, and up fifteen places is the new No.2 single in the US, Gotye and Kimbra's "Somebody That I Used to Know", which was also covered in Glee last Thursday night (12th April).

Rebecca Ferguson climbs again this week with “Nothing’s real But Love”, up a few places to No.41. Up four spots to No.46 is the latest for 360, “Child”, and Ricki-Lee leaps into the Top 50 at No.47, up twenty-eight places with her latest track “Do it Like That”.

Bravo channel's songwriter competition 'Platinum Hit' runner-up Jes Hudak scores the highest new entry of the week with "Different Worlds" featuring George Krikes as guest vocalist, which enters first week at No.27. It’s helped by it being used during the promos for the new series of ‘The Voice’ on Channel 9

Lower 50: No new peaking tracks in the lower half of the chart this week, notable jump though for Christina Perri’s “Jar of Hearts” which is back up nineteen places to No.78. Re-entries for the week come from Taio Cruz and “Dynamite” at No.79, two One Direction tracks re-enter at No.87, “Another World”, and No.100 “I Should Have Kissed You”. Florence + the Machine return at No.88 with “Dog Days are over”, James Morrison returns at No.93 with “I Won’t Let You Go”, and Katy Perry’s “Firework” reignites the charts at No.99.

The three new entries in the lower part of the Top 100 come from Kanye West featuring Big Sean, Pusha T and 2 Chainz on the track “Mercy”, debuting at No.60. Nicki Minaj debuts at No.63 the album track “Whip it”, and after their performance on ‘Adam Hills in Gordon Street Tonight’ on April 4th, local act The Bamboos featuring Tim Rogers debut at No.92 with “I Got Burned”.

Albums

The One Direction scream-fest that occurred during the past week in several major cities has helped the new British boy-band to retain the No.1 spot on the ARIA Albums Chart with their debut album "Up All Night", now featuring four singles within the Top 100 this week.

The seventh studio album for Aussie rockers Cold Chisel debuts at No.2 entitled "No Plans", and is their first album of new material since "Last Wave of Summer" (HP-1, Oct 1998), the first taste of which is the single "Everybody". Their other currently charting album is "The Best of - All for You" jumps back up thirteen places to No.26, whilst lead-singer Jimmy Barnes is at No.49 with his best of set "Hits". As you can see from the bands chart history in Australia, they don’t always debut at the top, but eventually claim that position (bold dates in the Peak Week column indicate peaked first week), their chart history is listed below...

Adele and The Hilltop Hoods swap places this week with "21" for Adele rising back up one place to No.3 and the Hoods' "Drinking from the Sun" down one place to No.4. Also swapping are Skrillex and Nicki Minaj, as Nicki drops back one place after debuting at No.5 last week with "Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded", and Skrillex is back up one place to No.5 with his "Bangarang" EP.

Bob Seger's "Ultimate Hits: Rock & Roll Never Forgets" holds steady at No.7 this week, whilst another best of "The Ultimate Collection" for Creedence climbs one spots to a new peak of No.10 to become the groups fourth best of to reach the Top 10 here (first was “Creedence Gold” (HP-9) in 1973). Lionel Richie's "Tuskagee" drops back six places to No.8 after zooming up to No.2 last week, and down one spot to No.9 is Ed Sheeran's "+" album.

NEW PEAKS & MOVERS: Rebecca Ferguson climbs a single place to a new peak of No.16 with her debut album "Heaven", and Tony Bennett's national tour helps his "Duets 1 & 2" collection to jump up seven places to No.18. Rihanna's promo visit and new single help her former No.5 album "Talk That Talk" to leap up twenty-nine spots to No.23, and after debuting at No.30 last week, Sia's "Best of" climbs three places to No.27 this week.

Even though Flo Rida's fourth album "Only One Flo (Part 2)" is still to be released (due July), and has produced two massive singles, in the meantime he has released a seven track EP called "Good Feeling" to coincide with his Sydney and Melbourne shows, which debuts at No.21 this week. The EP features the title track (TW-61) plus two remixes of that track, and also recent No.1 "Wild Ones" (TW-13) is on there with previous hits "Club Can't Handle Me" featuring David Guetta (HP-3, August 2010), "Turn Around (5,4,3,2,1)" (HP-12, Feb 2011) and "Who Dat Girl" feat Akon (HP-10, May 2011).

Labrinth enters at No.38 with his debut album "Electronic Earth", which features the current No.6 single "Earthquake" (HP-4), the album recently debuting at No.2 in his homeland England. And the fourth Top 50 debut of the week is the fourteen track compilation "Hope”, which debuts at No.46 and is an album of faith and inspirational based songs.

Lower 50: Michael Bolton is due to tour here soon, and his "Gems: The Duets Collection" re-enters and scores a new peak of No.63 this week. Also re-entering is the self-titled album for Busby Marou at No.65, "Forever So" by Husky at No.68, Justin Bieber's "My Worlds" is back in at No.84, and due to it being re-issued in the cinemas in 3D, the 1998 "Titanic" (HP-1, Feb 1998) soundtrack resurfaces at No.97 this week.

The eighth studio album for US country outfit Rascal Flatts enters at No.51 this week entitled "Changed", their first album ever to chart here. Welsh alternative rock band Lostprophets enter at No.55 with their fifth album entitled "Weapons". Their fourth set "The Betrayed" debuted and peaked at No.49 in February 2010 to become their highest charting set so far, but they’ve also charted with their second album “Start Something” (HP-66, Jan 2004) and third set “Liberation Transmission” (HP-62, July 2006).

Troy Andrews goes by the name of Trombone Shorty, as he's a Trombone and Trumpet player, who also performed the soundtrack to the TV series 'Treme'. His eighth studio album becomes his first to chart here, as "For True" enters at No.73. Alabama rock band Alabama Shakes enter at No.92 with their debut album "Boys and Girls", and bluesman Seasick Steve debuts at No.94 with "Walkin' Man: The Best of".

Wow, One Direction are doing brilliantly in Australia! 'One Thing' a big hit there, but not so much in their home country.
I'm surprised Rebecca Ferguson is holding up so well on the album charts. Does she get lots of airplay there? Looks like she's made a mark!
