As others have said, I think it's so popular because it's extremely catchy, and different. People really, really want to tone things down now. It's quite obvious looking at the charts and what people are buying. Call Me Maybe is a dance song, but it's not continuous pouding synths that go on and on and on through the entire thing. The instrumental is a bouncy little melody in the verses and those strings in the chorus. It is a bit different to what we've had to endure the past few years, I think that's what's enticing people, along with its catchiness.

I'm a bit surprised it's selling a million, but I don't mind, there's many worse million-sellers imo.

Call Me Maybe is by no means a dance song, any more than Stacie Orrico was a dance artist.

This IS a statement by Eric_Blob.

People are forgetting the message of the song is such a cultural thing as well. How often do people just give their numbers out to random people they see in bars/clubs/resturaunts/pubs/betting shops etc.

It's such a good song.

I mean like dance-pop obviously, not proper underground dance music.

Oh PLEASE tell me this post is taking the piss Ren! http://www.moopy.org.uk/forums/images/smilies/grin.gif I see what you mean but I don't think it's doing well because people are thinking 'I LIKE THIS SONG BECAUSE I GAVE MY NUMBER TO SOME BIRD AT LADBROKES' (does that even HAPPEN?)

What's it on now? 420k? Not bad for four weeks of release. Even at #2 this week, it'll still hopefully manage around 70k - so even a few more weeks of around 50k should boost it up to 700/800k, the remainder of which it can easily make up in what's bound to be a lengthy chart run.

I think it's over 430,000 already.

I could see it making 800,000 at least before leaving the top 10.

It will move slowly down the chart and in so doing so accumulate significant sales as it does so.

Lokk at 'Moves Like Jagger'. That's sold nearly 200k this year despite never being higher than no.11. I reckon it's got at least another 100k of sales in it before year end.

Is it not now more a case 'Will it outsell. Moves Like Jagger' or 'Someone Like You'?

That is much more speculative as I think we're talking sales of around 1.5m ultimately for those two tracks. While sales of 1m are easy enough to predict from CMM's current sales, 1.5m much less so.

One thing I am pretty certain of is that none of the 3 tracks will make 1.5m by year end.

I think we had enough of those from Give Me Everything.

Coincidentally, that's another song that's edging closer to a million.

I have picked up several young and beautiful people from my local William Hill
