May 5, 201213 yr True that. I feel my list needs a bit of Nightwish for variety but I can't think WHICH ONE! Storytime or Amaranth :kink:
May 5, 201213 yr Storytime or Amaranth :kink: See, I think Storytime's a lot too recent to consider. Amaranth is probably the most likely candidate, but while it's excellent, it's just missing something. The Poet and the Pendulum would be a great choice but it goes on too long. Having said that, it's probably the only 10+ minute track I normally have time for. Wish I Had An Angel is another choice but I really don't know. Several acts do this to me, they have a number of excellent songs, but I don't have a clear favourite, and it means they end up not being in my favourite songs despite me loving a lot of their songs. Kelly Clarkson and Paramore are two other examples (although Behind Your Hazel Eyes and Misery Business have pushed ahead in recent months).
May 5, 201213 yr Nice to see some songs listed that I would place in my own potential top 20. I've been thinking of a list for the past 24 hours and it's pretty hard! I will keep at it though and will post it when I'm happy with it. Will probably have to be in alphabetical order as really it's like asking a parent to pick their favourite children! May 5, 201213 yr i'm sure we had one of these topics before, but nearly 18 months on our tastes would differ (and you're all now half-allowed to include "Bad Romance", celebrate GaGa goons x) ik my top 10 list last time was quite wrong with #10, so i'll try this again. ps. shakespeare's sister's "stay" was in there, but alas thanks to it being dreadfully ruined by everyone and everything idk if i want it anymo'. shame. commence intense shuffling of previous top 10~ 001 Madonna - Hung Up 002 Madonna - Frozen 003 iiO - Rapture 004 Eric Prydz - Pjanoo 005 Aphex Twin - Windowlicker (i flat out forgot this last time) 006 Bodyrox ft. Luciana - Yeah Yeah 007 Roger Sanchez - Another Chance 008 Madonna - Hollywood 009 Massive Attack - Paradise Circus 010 Rui Di Silva ft. Cassandra Fox - Touch Me 011 Crystal Castles - Doe Deer 012 New Order - Blue Monday 013 Madonna - Ray Of Light 014 Britney Spears - Till The World Ends 015 iamamiwhoami - T 016 Le Tigre - The The Empty 017 Crystal Castles - Courtship Dating 018 Britney Spears - Gimme More 019 Rihanna - SOS 020 The Prodigy - Warrior's Dance That's definitely not right is it. LMAO god knows :( Feel like Gwen should be in there as well. omggg too hard Actually one of the best top twenty's I have seen ! So much love for 'Windowlicker' and 'Touch Me' being included. 01. Beyoncé ft. Jay-Z "Crazy in Love" 02. Britney Spears "Toxic" 03. Shakira "Whenever, Wherever" 04. Britney Spears "Everytime" 05. Christina Aguilera "Fighter" 06. Rihanna ft. Jay-Z "Umbrella" 07. Beyoncé "Irreplaceable" 08. Nelly Furtado "I'm Like a Bird" 09. Enrique Iglesias "Hero" 10. Kelis ft. André 3000 "Millionaire" It was longer, but then I realised that the songs below the top ten were more recent than these, so just cut it there. There're probably more though that I've forgotten at this moment. I'm shocked you have no Girls Aloud or Cheryl Cole in there! :o __________ I really do not know what my top twenty would be. My top two for quite a few years has been: 1__ t.A.T.u 'All The Things She Said' 2__ The Knife 'Heartbeats'
May 5, 201213 yr I can't believe I only just noticed that Namie Amuro's 'What A Feeling' is in Jark's list. WHAT. A. FEELING TUNE. The only K/J-pop song I have any real affection for, if I'm honest. As for the debate going on, I'm not judging anyone, but just on a personal level of instinct, it took me a good while before I felt comfortable putting 'Rabbit Heart' so high up, and only in the past few months do I feel like it can be included without reservations. Likewise, I'm sure Gotye and Loreen's 'My Heart Is Refusing Me' would figure somewhere in my top 100, but they still feel too fresh to judge against all the other songs. I'm really taking the whole thing too seriously...
May 5, 201213 yr I can't believe I only just noticed that Namie Amuro's 'What A Feeling' is in Jark's list. WHAT. A. FEELING TUNE. The only K/J-pop song I have any real affection for, if I'm honest. It's basically the dictionary definition of gay euphoria.
May 5, 201213 yr I'm shocked you have no Girls Aloud or Cheryl Cole in there! :o It's just a combination of there not really being a definitive Girls Aloud moment which I prefer over the other and "Fight for This Love" being too recent for my top ten!
May 5, 201213 yr Athlete - Wires Avril Lavigne - I'm With You Ayumi Hamasaki - ever free Brandy - What About Us The Corrs - Dreams Evanscence - Everybody's Fool Kelly Clarkson - Hear Me Koda Kumi - Yume no Uta Jamelia - Numb (Linkin Park cover) Mariah Carey - Fly Like A Bird Mary J Blige - No More Drama Michelle Branch - Til I Get Over You Nelly Furtado - Try Sade - By Your Side Stacie Orrico - More To Life Starsailor - Alcoholic Utada Hikaru - Simple and Clean Utada Hikaru - Sakura Drops The Veronicas - Mouth Shut Washed Out - You and I Pretty much every one of these songs is tied to some relatively significant moment in my life. May 6, 201213 yr Hmm I'll try to throw my hat in the ring then. I've never even attempted a top 10 or 20 of all time, so this is tough. There's no way on earth I could put them in order, so it's just a random list from me. It's a real mixture of genres and I'm hesitant to put too many newer songs in because it's impossible to tell if they'll stand the test of time yet. Here goes... REM - Nightswimming Kate Bush - This Woman's Work Kate Bush - Running Up That Hill Meat Loaf - Bat Out Of Hell Meat Loaf - Couldn't Have Said It Better Counting Crows - Colorblind Robyn - Dancing On My Own Pat Benatar - Love Is A Battlefield Tina Turner - River Deep Mountain High Heart - Alone Heart - All I Wanna Do Is Make Love To You Madonna - Like A Prayer ABBA - Lay All Your Love On Me ABBA - Angel Eyes Alannah Myles - Black Velvet Belinda Carlisle - Heaven/Leave a Light On (I can't decide here, but I'm not having them both) Wicked - Defying Gravity (either the original Idina Menzel version or Kerry Ellis' rock version - both equally as good in different ways) Corona - Baby Baby (I know, I know, but I was a 90s child, what can I say?) Leona Lewis - Run/Broken/Happy/Bleeding Love (she's only getting one on my final list, but I don't know which yet) N-Trance and Kelly Llorenna - Set You Free (best dance track ever in my opinion) Marina and the Diamonds - Numb So that's 20. I'm not sure if I've made good choices or not, and I'm 100% positive I'll want to change some of them the longer I think about it. That was hard! Edited May 7, 201213 yr by PaulM1983
May 7, 201213 yr I think compiling a list of all time favourite songs is SO hard - comparing a late 90s song with something from 2010 feels like comparing apples and oranges to me. Songs age, get overplayed, have a sound that suita the era etc. I'd find it much easier to list my top 20 from each year. SAYING THAT, here's my attempt at producing a top 20: 01. Brandy & Monica – The Boy Is Mine 02. Spice Girls – Too Much 03. Beverley Knight – Black Butta 04. Melanie C – Never Be The Same Again 05. TLC – Waterfalls 06. All Saints – Never Ever 07. Whitney Houston – It's Not Right But It's Okay 08. Ellie Goulding – Guns And Horses 09. Spice Girls – Viva Forever 10. Keri Hilson ft. Kanye West & Ne-Yo– Knock You Down 11. Brandy – What About Us? 12. Spice Girls – Stop 13. Aaliyah – More Than A Woman 14. Destiny's Child – Bills, Bills, Bills 15. Estelle – American Boy 16. Janet Jackson – Together Again 17. Kate Bush – Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God) 18. Beverley Knight – Gold 19. Little Boots – Stuck On Repeat 20. Lady Gaga ft. Beyoncé – Telephone The order of this could change on the flip of a coin and I'm sure there's a few I've forgotten, but that's pretty much it. Edited May 7, 201213 yr by AaronTM
May 7, 201213 yr I couldn't do a top 20 and I'm sure even now I've left some amazing things out but here's a top 40, in alphabetical order as I love them all pretty much equally: Tori Amos 'Cloud On My Tongue' Tori Amos 'Cornflake Girl' Antony & The Johnsons 'Hope There's Someone' Arcade Fire 'Rebellion (Lies)' Meg Baird 'Do What You Gotta Do' Björk 'Vökuró' Blondie 'Atomic' Bon Iver 'Holocene' The Bravery 'An Honest Mistake' Bright Eyes 'Hit The Switch' Kate Bush 'Hounds Of Love' The Chemical Brothers 'The Private Psychedelic Reel' The Cure 'Lovesong' Depeche Mode 'Enjoy The Silence' DJ Mehdi 'Signatune (Thomas Bangalter Remix)' Beth Gibbons & Rustin Man 'Mysteries' Janis Ian 'At Seventeen' Interpol 'Obstacle 1' Carole King 'It's Too Late' The Knife 'Marble House' Ladytron 'Destroy What You Touch' M83 'Midnight City' Aimee Mann 'Little Bombs' Monkey Swallows The Universe 'Bloodline' New Order 'True Faith' Portishead 'The Rip' Pulp 'Do You Remember The First Time?' Radiohead 'Pyramid Song' Radiohead 'Street Spirit (Fade Out)' Fionn Regan 'Be Good Or Be Gone' Damien Rice '9 Crimes' Rilo Kiley 'Portions For Foxes' Robyn 'Dancing On My Own' Sigur Rós 'Hoppípolla' Dusty Springfield 'Son of a Preacher Man' Stereolab 'French Disko' Sufjan Stevens 'Come On! Feel The Illinoise!' Sufjan Stevens 'For The Widows In Paradise, For The Fatherless In Ypsilanti' Suede 'Animal Nitrate' Patrick Wolf 'The Libertine'
May 7, 201213 yr At least 3 songs have come on my phone this morning that I would place on my list. I knew this was an impossible task. I did however edit my post to include Marina and the Diamonds - Numb. That chorus!! That song does something to me that I can't explain. I think it's just the combination of the vocal, the piano track, and the epic chorus harmonies. Amazing.
May 7, 201213 yr I'm playing "River Deep Mountain High" at the moment and realised that should probably be in my top 20, "Proud Mary" probably should be too.
May 9, 201213 yr Tori Amos 'Cloud On My Tongue' Tori Amos 'Cornflake Girl' Antony & The Johnsons 'Hope There's Someone' Arcade Fire 'Rebellion (Lies)' Meg Baird 'Do What You Gotta Do' Björk 'Vökuró' Blondie 'Atomic' Bon Iver 'Holocene' The Bravery 'An Honest Mistake' Bright Eyes 'Hit The Switch' Kate Bush 'Hounds Of Love' The Chemical Brothers 'The Private Psychedelic Reel' The Cure 'Lovesong' Depeche Mode 'Enjoy The Silence' DJ Mehdi 'Signatune (Thomas Bangalter Remix)' Beth Gibbons & Rustin Man 'Mysteries' Janis Ian 'At Seventeen' Interpol 'Obstacle 1' Carole King 'It's Too Late' The Knife 'Marble House' Ladytron 'Destroy What You Touch' M83 'Midnight City' Aimee Mann 'Little Bombs' Monkey Swallows The Universe 'Bloodline' New Order 'True Faith' Portishead 'The Rip' Pulp 'Do You Remember The First Time?' Radiohead 'Pyramid Song' Radiohead 'Street Spirit (Fade Out)' Fionn Regan 'Be Good Or Be Gone' Damien Rice '9 Crimes' Rilo Kiley 'Portions For Foxes' Robyn 'Dancing On My Own' Sigur Rós 'Hoppípolla' Dusty Springfield 'Son of a Preacher Man' Stereolab 'French Disko' Sufjan Stevens 'Come On! Feel The Illinoise!' Sufjan Stevens 'For The Widows In Paradise, For The Fatherless In Ypsilanti' Suede 'Animal Nitrate' Patrick Wolf 'The Libertine' Mostly solid gold, there Dand. I can't really criticise Son of a Preacher Man but I've always found it to be one of her weaker "famous" songs.
