As far as Bananarama goes, I also wouldn't say that they shaped girl groups of the future considering quite a number of girl groups existed before them and for our era it was the Spice Girls that reignited the country's interest in girl groups.

The Spice Girls wouldn't have existed without Bananarama. That came from Geri Halliwell herself..... and all the girl groups before Bananarama were chucked together by record companies etc (much like the girlbands of the 90s and 00s)... Bananarama were a homegrown actual product.

I'm not even going to bother nominating any acts at all for this thread - it's utterly mortifying and represents nothing.

Nothing from 2011 onwards? Casey CLEARLY did this to stop my Parade from winning!!! :drama:

(The Saturdays - All Fired Up would be in for a good chance of nomination too, but I generally agree with the ban. I shall nominate before bed.)

This may be true, however having not grown up in the era in Bananarama were at their biggest, I do not have the same attachment to their songs like I do song by Spice Girls, All Saints, B*Witched etc., as much I as I like hearing the odd Bananarama song. Also, I'm not going to vote for a song because it made Girl groups what they are today, if the said group just hasn't got material I like more than groups that are newer.

This rate isn't here to find the most influential girl group in existence, it is here to find Buzzjack's collective favourite song by a girl group. I fear this is where you may have confused yourself to the whole point of this rate.

Thanks to this thread for reintrducing me to the forgotten gem that is Run For Cover

@russ - pretty much what Casey just said. I do wish you'd get off your high horse sometimes russ, you make it so hard for me to like you.

'Louder' and 'Perfume' are amazing! :( Shame about the rest of their material.

I've probably forgotten lots of CRUCIAL songs, but I'm pretty happy with this as a top 40 at the moment. The first ten are the top 10, obvz. I considered being lame and tactically putting the ones with least chance of progressing in my top 10, but I have to be FAIR.

They were shite and were lucky to last as long as they did. They also appear to have stolen the names of famous B*Witched tracks = (Blame It On The) Weatherman and Rollercoaster?

You've only heard two of their songs! I think they're still going anyway. I noticed that about their song titles too. One of the writers of "Weatherman" wrote "To You I Belong", perhaps he was having a lazy day.
