I suppose if you want to look at it that way... ;)

What I was getting at is; you could easily say "if Alex Clare's song hadn't been featured on the Internet Explorer ad, Marina would've been top ten" or "She would've got there if Cover Drive's new single hadn't been pushed back a week"

Interestingly, 3 of the top 4 on iTunes became massive hits through non-conventional ways (if that's the right way to word it).

We Are Young got popular from the Superbowl advert, Call Me Maybe got popular from Justin Bieber's Youtube video, and Too Close got popular from an advert aswell. They became hits almost by "accident", rather than R.I.P which was made, and sent by the record label to many radio stations, MTV channels, etc, and got well-known that way.

It will be a close run for #1 this Sunday. And whether Gotye gets top 10. And whether The Saturdays will get #5-#7 peak. And whether Scissors Sisters go top 10.

Pretty unpredictable this week generally!

One more week in the top 10 would make it the longest running top 10 single since 'I Gotta Feeling' in 2009 (17 weeks) - though I'm pretty sure some of the latter's weeks were non-consecutive.

They were.

I Gotta Feeling:

...-10-3-3-1-2-1-2-3-5-5-7-6-5-8-6-7-10-...

Somebody That I Used To Know:

STIUTK is such a masterpiece.

If Rita Ora has reportedly decreased around 50% week on week then 'R.I.P.' is looking set to sell roughly 52k this week. Would be fantastic if fun. sold enough in these last few hours to edge out in front officially in tomorrow's chart. :D Sure it'd be considered a low selling #1 but it's had longevity which more than makes up for having 1 week at #1.
STIUTK is such a masterpiece.

I love it so much.

I honestly really hope everybody copies the song tbh. I want more stuff like this.

I think it will happen to an extent. Record labels and producers won't ignore the success of this song surely. I think we might go back to how it was 2005-2007 time where lots of big hits had weird sound effects and more creative rhythmns, which would be awesome.

I read an aritcle on Billboard's website saying that radio stations are going to play more alternative music and less dance music now because of recent chart events. And the article also said that the thing people liked about Somebody That I Used to Know was the weird sounds, and sparse production (two things that have been EXTREMELY lacking in the charts the past few years), and that's exactly what I like about it too.
