GERI HALLIWELL- MI CHICO LATINO- NON NUMBER ONE

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/0/0f/Michicolatino-ukcd1.jpg

NEW CHART POSITION: 2

Not content with limiting Alice Deejay to one week, Lou Bega's sensational debut at No 1 also refuses to budge for Halliwell's first solo chart topper "Mi Chico Latino" which sees itself held up at the No 2 spot. Probably one of her most famous tracks it typified the latino summer of 99, it almost mirrored the descent of Westlife's "If I Let You Go" and can therefore, not be surprised at its inclusion here. Will she ever get that solo No 1?

Noooo!

This is definitely my favourite Geri single. A remarkably on-trend song for her (considering she'd completed this track by early 99, she had no way of knowing the summer would be full of Latino inspired hits).

Nice to see Alice Deejay promoted to #1 - certainly one of the most memorable hits of 99, for me.

VENGABOYS- WE'RE GOING TO IBIZA- NON NUMBER ONE

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/d/db/We'reGoingtoIbiza.jpg

NEW PEAK POSITION: 3

Thanks to a combo of Eiffel 65 and Lou Bega the Vengaboys are hereby stripped of their other UK No 1 single (if only this could be true really). I can't deny their massive popularity in 99 though this was actually their 4th release from the debut album and their fourth top 5 hit so they must have been doing something right. It actually charted on Import first and spent its first 4 wks inside the top 10 doing everything right to keep its real chart position but up against the mega sellers of the year (both "Mambo No 5" and "Blue" ended the year in the top 5 best sellers) it didn't really stand a chance.

Probably not! My prediction is that the other 2 songs will be demoted too!

I'll finish off 99 tomorrow- there are 2 more demotions and a promotion to come!

King Of My Castle? :( Again, another one I used to like, pesky Gezza! :D

I have a gut feeling I'm going to detest the song that gets promoted too. A shame it won't be I Try as I used to love that track.

Better Off Alone  It's the first song I ever tracked sales for and seeing it go up from 50k-60k-80k or thereabouts in the first three weeks, I had a feeling that it would be on about 90k the following week, which it was - bloody Westlife. To be fair though, I expected them to beat Alice Deejay more comprehensively than they actually did, and at the time I actually thought that Better Off Alone would finally climb to #1 the week Geri topped the charts, instead it stayed at #2 again...

I knew it was coming but great to see Alice Deejay promoted to New Number One status  I love Better Off Alone a real lot (not as much as good delta obviously) and it is a real defining memorable classic trance song for me. The vocals are good but it's all about that instrumental :D

Nice to see We're Going To Eat Pizza off #1, one of their worst songs. It's a shame that Boom Boom Boom Boom also got knocked off #1 as well :( but the plus side is an extra week at #1 for ATB :D

Probably not! My prediction is that the other 2 songs will be demoted too!

She has three more #1s to come (one more each in 1999, 2000 and 2001). I think Lift Me Up has a decent chance of retaining as it wasn't surrounded by any particularly strong #1, and the big-selling #2 single that was around in the last few months of 1999 had already peaked by the time Lift Me Up came out. And It's Raining Men could go either way I feel, despite spending two weeks at #1 it was very front-loaded and S Club 7 were much more consistent in comparison...

Frankly I think Gezza should be ashamed of his attempts to diminish the achievements of the Queen of British pop though. :snif: Surely this qualifies as some kind of treason offence?

WESTLIFE- FLYING WITHOUT WINGS- NON NUMBER ONE

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/d/de/3FlyingWithoutWings2.jpg

NEW PEAK POSITION: 3

Another Westlife chart topper takes a dive here thanks to a certain Ms Aquilera whose debut single "Genie In A Bottle" was doing brisk business at the top of the chart. It's one of their more popular and most remembered hit but it can't keep its top slot on our thread- just how many chart toppers can they keep?

06.11.99- R KELLY-IF I COULD TURN BACK THE HANDS OF TIME- NEW NUMBER ONE (1 Wk)

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-O0gpD1jYwjM/ToYyvzf7J2I/AAAAAAAAAhE/FPq_jFrXZYw/s320/rkelly001.jpg

"Dear Buzzjack

When I started this thread I had no idea/ intention of it resulted in any more number One Singles for R Kelly. Unfortunately this has not come to pass, and it is my duty to inform you that he has sadly been awarded another chart topper courtesy of this single. For this I am truly sorry.

Yours

Gezza"

Urgh. That's what I feared may happen, I really don't see how R Kelly was so popular... dull dull track. Ah well, at least Pondlife had another #1 demoted. :D

ROBBIE WILLIAMS- IT'S ONLY US/ SHE'S THE ONE- NON NUMBER ONE

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/8/8b/ShesTheOneItsOnlyUs1.gif

NEW PEAK POSITION: 2

Yes there were a few guesses as to what exactly would have to give way in November 1999 and it turned out to be this one. By the time Williams's single had built up a head of steam it was defeated by Wamdue Project who manage to cling on to their No 1 status. He did gain a week with "Millennium" so perhaps this is just pop karma?

Gezza, you'll need to edit that......

Oops wishful, wishful, wishful thinking!
