OXIDE AND NEUTRINO- BOUND 4 DA RELOAD (CASUALTY)- NON NUMBER ONE

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/8/8e/Bound_4_Da_Reload.jpg

NEW PEAK POSITION: 2

Unable to overcome the juggernaut that was "Oops I Did It Again" this chart oddity gets relegated to No 2. Oxide & Neutrino were of course members of So Solid Crew but achieved solo fame first with a track sampling the BBC show "Casualty" (the clues in the title) and seemed to genuinely come from nowhere in May 2000 to make No 1. It narrowly managed to outsell Fragma in the real world to grab a week at the top but never sold in anything like large amounts making Britney's move to No 1 easier than it would otherwise have been, the bloke in the video I'm sure was also in "As If" one of my fave programmes of the time!

This thread is righting so many wrongs today. I approve. :D

Oxide & Neutrino were so 2000 it hurt. A lot. They were also absolutely abysmal too. Just like 'Don't Give Up', this was yet another UK #1 that I just had to :manson: when it was announced.

Yes, it samples the Casualty theme tune, big deal. It's still crap. :D

"now everybody make some nnnoooiiiissssee"

Should have really been "The Bad Touch" at #1 that week, climbed to #4 which was its peak. Out of interest Gezza, where did it get to according to your chart?
Actually while we're on the subject, where did Shania Twain 'That Don't Impress Me Much' chart according to this in May/June 1999? It spent something like 3-4 weeks at #3 whilst the top 2 changed each of those weeks.

Only No 5, its problem was that its sales were quite evenly spread out which provides stability but never really lifts the songs over those tracks that did big first week sales, and the gaps in sales were BIG in some weeks!

It did actually make No 2 05/06/99 but its sales combi sales (my new word) were less than half that of Shanks & Bigfoot!

That's interesting, I would have assumed its consistency would have put it ahead of one or two of the songs that débuted above it but below #1.

YES at Fool Again and that Bound For Da (sic) Reload being demoted. GOOD JOB GEZZA.
So I'm guessing that Westlife's escaping the non-number one stamp will be Swear It Again, I Have A Dream and Uptown Girl

Did the Manics retain their number 1 in 2000? That seems unlikely.

Why would it be unlikely given Westlife were selling only 34k at No 1 the week before and Britney 91k the week after them?

becauae I didn't know those sales figures. And even I would admit it was a non-number 1

Having stripped them of their 98 No 1 I dared not do it again for fear of your wrath Tony :D Sometimes January can be blessing! and January 2000 was especially low selling given that next to nothing happened until MSP released that single so single sales were dreadful and therefore the Manics had little to beat really.

MADISON AVENUE- DON'T CALL ME BABY- NON NUMBER ONE

NEW PEAK POSITION: 2

Spending a fortnight at No 2 behind First Britney Spears, then Sonique, Madison Avenue are stripped of their sole UK Chart topper. It was first released in November 1999 and made No 30 (I actually bought it during that run, one of the few times I was ahead of the game :D ) but it got its re-release in May 2000 and went all the way in the real chart for the Aussie Duo but not much was heard of them post 2000. Incidentally re: the vid below, members of a certain age will appreciate the cowboy hats that were worn in clubs of the time- always a bad idea.

BILLIE PIPER- DAY & NIGHT- NON NUMBER ONE

By 2000 she was all grown up, oh yes and that meant adding her surname to her single releases! Still, as a piece of Britney lite pop this isn't half bad, and if only it wasn't for that mammoth first week sale of Sonique this would have held its No 1 placing, indeed it lost out by a mere 5k. It isn't quite the fantastic "Something Deep Inside" but it's certainly a pop gem, sad to see its demotion.

FIVE AND QUEEN- WE WILL ROCK YOU- NON NUMBER ONE

NEW PEAK POSITION: 3

Considering it only made No 1 in the real chart on a technicality it can't really be too fazed by its relegation in this thread. Most definitely the weak link in the string of one week chart toppers in the summer of 2000 it moved 1-3-6-10, not exactly a run to be ashamed of, especially in the charts of 2000, but with massive sellers like "Life Is A Rollercoaster" and "Rock DJ" around it was laways gonna struggle.

Confession time - I love Chicane and Bryan - Don't Give Up. I would still rate it in my Top 100 of the 00s.
