Posh lost yesterday, as expected. Not going to win many away this season. Tuesday and next Saturday's games are much more important, Millwall and Leeds at home!

Liverpool were the latest in a long line of victims of Shane Long. Not sure there are many better players in the game at winning fouls in key areas of the pitch. Both harsh but letter of the law meant Dowd got decisions correct.

Yeah he's a good player. From what I've read, we were good first half just wasteful again. Gera's goal was a fantastic bit if technique, and going down to ten men hardly helps. Still need 2/3 signings. Not particularly bothered this season as it's a transition. There will be good days and bad days, just got to be patient. West Brom have a really good strike force, reckon they're the type of team that can use Lukaku to his full potential.

I'm worried that Derby managed to chuck away another 2 goal lead again against Sheff Wed yesterday just like they did against Scunthorpe! Hopefully it's just a lack of experience from some of the players and they'll be able to close out matches in future!

Football actually depresses me :(

It will take time. But it will come. Suarez's finishing is no worse than some other strikers, and most the chances he makes he makes for himself. Plenty teams implode after red cards. Best time to play Manchester City next weekend, as they won't hit full stride for another 3/4 games.

I guess it's hard to be optimistic after watching every game last season and saying "Oh we dominated that, but couldn't score"

Still think we need to bring in a few attacking players. A front three from Suarez, Borini, Carroll, Downing, Cole, Assaidi and Sterling isn't great

The first penalty and red card were a clear example of the problems with the law as it stands. It was a definite foul, Long had a clear run on goal and Agger was the last defender. The law gave Phil Dowd no choice. When I started watching football back in the 1970s referees had far more discretion and people were always calling for stricter guidelines on when players should be booked or sent off. My view was always that overly prescriptive laws would simply create a different set of problems and yesterday's incident was an example of just that.

These things take ages to come in to play. We need to learn how to play with a high line, and how to play properly. From what I've read after the sending off Steve Clarke just read us like a book, but then he knows each of our players in and out so knows their strengths and weaknesses. We need another striker, a wide forward and a defender, at least. Problem is we're skint unless we sell someone. It takes years to implement a philosophy. Luckily Spurs have no strikers at all, and Levy is a bit of a prick. And who knows how Arsenal will fair. So shout with 4th spot (although I highly doubt it).

Woooo! :yahoo:

Hull left it late but managed to scrape a win to start the season on a positive note!

Manchester United should have brought Van Persie on :D

They ain't gonna get close to their neighbours unless the sign a decent central midfielder.

anyone else think this formation would be a good idea? 4-3-2-1 with 2 target men and a pacy forward in front of them. oh well 3 point tonight please bristol city

No way. When you play a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 your front 2/3 players have to be excellent defensively. For the formation to work the wide forwards have to press the opposition, and offer protection up the field to the same full backs.

Three midfielders doing all the work? You'd have to be completely reliant on the full backs for width or you'd be outnumbered in midfield.

A 3-3-3-1 (three central defenders; two wing backs and a defensive mid; inside left, playmaker and inside right; centre forward) is the only formation not in common use that I thought could ever work.

3-0 defeat to Tranmere in our first home league game of the season. One is not amused and expects better on Saturday. :smoke:

Doesn't help that Miller is out for a month with an ankle injury.

Peterborough dominated by Millwall tonight, a team who I expect to be down there with us. Long season ahead.

Surprised to see Peterbrough get beat from Milwall, expecting Peterbrough to go down this season! Hopefully Swanson produces some magic! Delighted Huddersfield scored in the last minute against Nottingham Forrest!

I can see Wolves, Cardiff and Birmingham/Blackburn getting promoted this season tbh, I doubt Bolton will go straight back up, I think there team is still a little bit weak.

Really? Bolton's squad is the best in the Championship by miles. Wolves squad is still alright and they could have a lot of money added to it and Blackburn's defence is poor, their strikers aren't that great either without Best. Bolton's squad is better in every area than Blackburn's apart from maybe GK. Davies/N'Gog/Sordell/Afobe is a strike force with plenty of goals in at this level, with service provided by Chung, Petrov and Eagles. Wheater/Knight/Ream/Mills as centre halfs with Andrews/Davies/Pratley/Holden in central midfield. There isn't a team in the Championship that wouldn't kill for that kind of quality and strength in depth.

If Forest's first two games are anything to go by, we'll be right up there come the end of the season. Really pleased. So close to geting 6 points from 2 games, just really unlucky, we hit the inside of the woodwork twice and it bounced out, Huddersfield hit it once and it bounced in.

Chelsea are going to get twonked a few times this season. Still think Di Matteo will be first to get sacked.
