April 16, 201312 yr Author Wigan will probably get out of it. All depends on how Martinez rallies his players though because of the cup final. Villa seem to be playing OK again now, so I'd imagine they're down. Stoke are in freefall, and not sure about Sunderland. Di Canio screams a short term PR appointment to me, but it might just work. Norwich could even fall back in to the battle.
April 16, 201312 yr Cardiff promoted, shame a lot of their hardcore fans' love faded after the colour change last year.
April 16, 201312 yr Author Cardiff are blatantly going to be the new QPR. They're a disaster waiting to happen. Going to over-spend massively in the summer, they already have crippling debts. Mark Hughes will be their manager by Christmas, nailed on.
April 17, 201312 yr Bristol City down to League One and Hartlepool and Portsmouth join Bury in going down to League 2. Bury did win last night, obviously wanting to go out with a bang rather than a whimper. Well done to Cardiff, it will provide another interesting derby to look forward to next season.
April 19, 201312 yr PFA nominations Player of the year: Robin Van Persie, Luis Suarez, Gareth Bale, Eden Hazard, Juan Mata, Michael Carrick Young player of the year: Gareth Bale, Christian Benteke, Eden Hazard, Romelu Lukaku, Danny Welbeck, Jack Wilshere My picks would be Suarez as POTY and Bale as YPOTY Bale will probably win both though, which is why players shouldn't be allowed to be included in both categories
April 19, 201312 yr You have to expect Bale to win both. Van Persie has gone off the boil slightly, Suarez may struggle for support and Hazard has been overshadowed by Mata - who would actually be a good shout as he's pretty much carried Chelsea at times. Same for Carrick really, not got anywhere near enough credit. Lukaku and Benteke are good shouts for YPOTY. Won't be either of the English players since Welbeck's only scored about twice and Wilshere's been injured half the time.
April 19, 201312 yr I seem to recall that this occurred before with another player (nominated in both lists). I agree, it shouldn't happen. I would probably go for Van Persie and Bale.
April 19, 201312 yr Author Why the hell Wilshere is on there is beyond me.. must have barely played 15 games! Slight bias but Suarez for me hands down has been the best player in the Premier League. He carried Liverpool for about 10-12 games, and he's absolutely phenomenal. I'd say Bale will probably get it, and the Young Player one. Bit of a farce really.
April 19, 201312 yr At least we know now that there will be three Welsh teams in the Premier League next season - Swansea, Cardiff and Gareth Bale. :basil:
April 19, 201312 yr Author At least we know now that there will be three Welsh teams in the Premier League next season - Swansea, Cardiff and Gareth Bale. :basil: Haha, that's until Bale ends up at Real Madrid.
April 19, 201312 yr Voting happened in December/early January so if that's anything to go by, van Persie should win it. But the best player in the league this season? Michael Carrick, and by a country mile.
April 20, 201312 yr Author Voting happened in December/early January so if that's anything to go by, van Persie should win it. But the best player in the league this season? Michael Carrick, and by a country mile. Reckon it will be close between Suarez and Van Persie. Both were having a massive purple patch. Would say Carrick's done a good job. Probably the best midfielder, close with Mata though. Always think Barry doesn't get the credit he deserves too.
April 20, 201312 yr Carrick has been the most consistent of the list, I think. Also, no idea why both Wilshere AND Welbeck are on the list, both have either been injured or underwhelming this season.
April 20, 201312 yr Well I was wearing rose tinted glasses there, hopefully we can finish on a good note at home. Hasn't been much to cheer at home overall this season.
April 20, 201312 yr Mansfield are promoted back to the Football League after becoming champions in the Blue Square Premier on the final day with a 1-0 win over Wrexham. Their title rivals, Kidderminster Harriers won 4-0 against Stockport Country which will sadly be remembered for Stockport Country supporters running onto the pitch after Kidderminster opened the scoring where a Kidderminster player was punched. Eventually after a 31 minute delay, play resumed.
April 20, 201312 yr I heard that the ref had stopped play, didn't realise it was as serious as that. Used to live near Stockport years ago, pity that they have been relegated. Mansfield back in the league, the chances are we will see another team return as opposed to a new team going up looking at the group in the play offs.
April 20, 201312 yr And my local team, Bournemouth, are also promoted. Brentford and Doncaster play each other in the final match so cannot both go above The Cherries. Congratulations to Eddie Howe in becoming only the second Bournemouth manager (after Harry Redknapp) to take them to the second tier.
April 20, 201312 yr Author I reckon Newport will go up with Mansfield. Mansfield proving hoofball can win the title. Think they might struggle in the league next season, not sure Green will cut it at league level.
April 21, 201312 yr Suarez in the news for the wrong reasons. Is Sturridge fit enough if Suarez (as appears likely) gets a lengthy ban? Have Liverpool got enough depth in the squad for a situation like this? http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22242464
April 21, 201312 yr Author Liverpool's season is over so not too bothered really. Not sure what type of ban Suarez will get. At a guess he'll be the FA's scapegoat after McManaman and Aguero got away with bans. All depends on whether the referee saw it. He's come out and apologised straight away which is good, but lessen the ban. Who knows really, depends what the FA are smoking when they decide.
