Steve Clarke the new West Brom Head Coach.

So just Swansea and Chelsea to find their new managers after the managerial musical chairs game. The longer it goes on, the more I don't think di Matteo will get the Chelsea job.

He'd have got it by now if he were.

I'm absolutely delighted at all four of the managerial appointments so far, four clubs all choosing young, British managers. It's about time!

So Di Matteo appointed the new Chelsea boss, keeping the seat warm for Guardiola no doubt.

Big breaking news that Harry Redknapp has left his Tottenham managerial post!

Haha brilliant. Spurs get Moyes, Everton will try to go for Martinez, who will reject them. Pity Steve Bruce took a new job :D
If he has gone it proves exactly why I'm glad he's not England manager. You can't trust a word he says.

Without knowing why he's gone it's hard to comment on that. If he was still trying to resolve some sort of disagreement (transfer budget, selling players etc.) while he was denying he had resigned then he wasn't lying. It seems unlikely he's got another job lined up unless he wants to take what will be seen as a step down so some sort of dispute with the club is the only plausible explanation.

I imagine Levy has kicked him out. The official line will be mutual agreement, but Redknapp flirted with the England job in front of the media and his team went on a horrendous run of form during this time which cost Spurs the Champions League. Yes they got 4th, but they didn't get into the Champions League, and they should have done. To be considered a serious title contender to miss out on the Champions League is really alarming. I'd guess that this will be Harry's last job in England, unless he wants mid-table mediocrity again.

The BBC are speculating that he was sacked. However it wasn't Redknapp who first linked him with the England job. Any English manager whose name is mentioned in connection with that job is bound to be interested That said, it cannot be denied that Tottenham's form in that period was woeful.

The word is that he was sacked, and it does not surprise me. It's obviously not a decision Spurs have taken lightly as the Premier League season ended about a month ago, so they've obviously thought about it. Normally when you're subject to speculation whilst in another job, especially one so closely linked the media you try and detach yourself from the speculation. Harry did nothing of the sort. Must be pretty embarrassing for him to be self promoting his CV for the England job whilst trying to get Champions League football. People wanted him to have the England job, but he should have dismissed everything all the time, whereas 99% of the time be did no such thing. That being said I expect his sacking is the failure of Spurs to not qualify for the Champions League.

What English manager is going to say he isn't interested in the England job? Of course he could have handled it better but what would you have done if the entire press was acting as if the job was as good as yours?

Well you can't anyway. As the Portsmouth / Southampton saga and offshore bank account (that he allegedly didn't know about) prove.

Well every English manager was linked with the job, and many rightly so distanced themselves. I don't think Hodgson whored himself to the media to get the job, whereas Harry did. Pardew distanced himself straight away etc. - the situation, however flattering it must have been for him could (and more importantly) should have been handled by him a lot better.

So the opening day fixtures for the Premiership looks like this:

Arsenal v Sunderland

Everton v Man United

Fulham v Norwich City

Man City v Southampton

Newcastle United v Tottenham Hotspur

QPR v Swansea City

Reading v Stoke City

WBA v Liverpool

West Ham v Aston Villa

Wigan v Chelsea

What do you think of the fixtures for the start of the season and your favourite team's opening fixture to the season?

Bar the Arsenal match, our first six aren't actually all that bad. Can't really complain, it could be far, far worse.

Newcastle at home is the week after my birthday again. Last time that happened we won 2-1 :D

  • 3 weeks later...

We've signed Cuellar. Dunno what to think really, decent defender but it's not the most exciting of signings.

I wish if we were going to sign Fletcher we'd just get it over with, it's been rumbling on for ages now. I also hope we don't sign Saha.
