May 4, 201312 yr Congratulations, have you come back down to earth yet after that or is that a long time ahead? I remember seeing a sign in the Cardiff crowd when they went up (shown on the Football League Show) that said goodbye to Manish and hello to Gary.
May 4, 201312 yr #UTT :cheer: Had to hold back the tears! Dramatic stuff today :o I was quite grateful that Brighton couldn't finish anywhere other than fourth :D There have been some lovely messages on Twitter from Wolves fans tonight so all credit to them.

I remember seeing a sign in the Cardiff crowd when they went up (shown on the Football League Show) that said goodbye to Manish and hello to Gary. Yeah, managed to calm down during the 2 and a half hour journey back home  Was an amazing atmosphere though, Cardiff fans were just there for the laughs and kept saying that Watford were 1-0 and 2-0 up before Leeds scored which made us all nervous. Lots of banter back and forth and nothing remotely nasty which is exactly how I like it. I'm fully aware though that we'll more than likely come straight back down but at least we are back up there! And yes, I saw that banner  Dramatic stuff today :o I was quite grateful that Brighton couldn't finish anywhere other than fourth :D There have been some lovely messages on Twitter from Wolves fans tonight so all credit to them. It was wasn't it, all throughout the league! The relegation places were like a game of musical chairs  My heart was in my mouth when we missed our penalty and then Cardiff scored. We were all stood on the pitch trying to find out what was happening in the Watford match. Congratulations on your play-off place though, would never have thought you would finish just 4 points behind us :o. I'm expecting you to come up through the play-offs mind, you're easily the most in-form and generally good team out of the four.

Tbh, that's one reason why I was half wanting Hull to drop into the play-offs. That would have left Brighton and whoever came fourth (Leicester in the end) as the two form teams. As it is, Palace are the only team whose recent form has been poor. I feel sorry for the Watford sub 'keeper. He wasn't even expecting to be on the bench until shortly before kick-off and ended up playing most of the match. He was then at fault for both Leeds goals so his confidence must have taken a huge knock. If he has to play in the play-offs then Zola has a lot to do to get him in the right frame of mind to play. Now watch him play brilliantly  Brighton have to go up now. The thought of either losing to Palace or losing the final is too much to bear
May 4, 201312 yr Author Play-offs are always an absolute lottery. Going in with good form always helps, although it's two legs so anything can happen. Feels absolutely amazing when you go up, but so damaging when you lose. Good luck, I'll just be happy watching as a neutral this season!

Feels absolutely amazing when you go up, but so damaging when you lose. Good luck, I'll just be happy watching as a neutral this season! It's the timing that can be the biggest problem. Whoever goes up via the play-offs won't do so for another three weeks. By then some of their transfer targets may no longer be available. Of course, the huge sums of money involved, even if the promoted club goes straight back down, can make it worthwhile financially as long as they don't sign lots of players on contracts with no provision for a cut in pay if they are relegated.

I'd suspect most Championship clubs prepare for both scenarios. Lower down the leagues I doubt they'd have the manpower. Obviously you're at a slight disadvantage to Hull and Cardiff, but I suppose it depends on who your targets are. I'd suspect all three clubs will go for completely different targets. The parachute payments you receive if you go down are often a God-send. I suspect Wolves will go straight back up next season for example. It's all about expectations. Reading will be fine next season I'd expect. QPR definitely won't unless they get rid of a load of players. And out of the other clubs that might go down who knows. I'd suspect Norwich would be the most prepared for the Championship.

However, for the clubs who gain automatic promotion to the Premier League, the extra three weeks can make a massive difference.
May 4, 201312 yr Author If the promoted clubs have different targets then it is a different matter. However, for the clubs who gain automatic promotion to the Premier League, the extra three weeks can make a massive difference. Sure of course it can, but it doesn't always matter. The sides that have come up through the play-offs have been pretty well recently.
May 5, 201312 yr Newport County join Mansfield in League 2 and disappointment for Wrexham. How many attempts are they going to have? They have been in and around the promotion mix for the last few seasons now. Bradford vs Northampton Town for the League 2 final at Wembley.
May 5, 201312 yr I hope Bradford win, it would be good to have a once great side back in the Premier League.
May 5, 201312 yr Author Feel sorry for Wrexham! They've been so close for the past few seasons now, especially last season where they got beat in the playoffs by Luton. I hope Northampton go up personally, I don't want to lose Bradford because it's a bit of a derby game for us!
May 6, 201312 yr Brentford need to win the play offs to make up for what happened on the last day of the season and i think they have a strong chance against Yeovil Town in the final.
May 7, 201312 yr Author Telegraph going with the story of Fergie announcing his retirement this week. Let silly season commence.
May 7, 201312 yr Devastated for Wigan tonight, unfortunately I think their guaranteed to get relegated.
May 8, 201312 yr Devastated for Wigan tonight, unfortunately I think their guaranteed to get relegated. I still think Newcastle could, they need something from either QPR or Arsenal (which I don't think they can going on current form/QPR not having anything to play for) as I think Wigan will probably beat Aston Villa on the final day of the season. It the above happens though Norwich could go down if they lose both their matches by bigger margins.
May 8, 201312 yr Telegraph going with the story of Fergie announcing his retirement this week. Let silly season commence. Not so silly after all. He's off at the end of the season.
May 8, 201312 yr I saw the rumours last night, but not for one minute did I think they would be true His replacement is set to be announced in the next 48 hours and is someone that "believes in youth development". That rules out Mourinho. Most seem to think it is Moyes, but I also wouldn't be surprised to see Klopp come in
May 8, 201312 yr Author It's well documented Ferguson's preferred choice is Moyes. For all that Mourinho supposedly loves Chelsea, if he was offered the Man Utd job 2 minutes before the Chelsea job he'd take it in a flash. I can't see it being Klopp, but stranger things have happened.
