Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption—a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. Jackman plays ex-prisoner Jean Valjean, hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert after he breaks parole. When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine's young daughter, Cosette, their lives change forever.

  • Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean
  • Russell Crowe as Inspector Javert
  • Anne Hathaway as Fantine
  • Amanda Seyfried as Cosette
  • Eddie Redmayne as Marius Pontmercy
  • Samantha Barks as Éponine
  • Sacha Baron Cohen as Thénardier
  • Helena Bonham Carter as Madame Thénardier
  • Aaron Tveit as Enjolras
  • Daniel Huttlestone as Gavroche

Les Mis + Jackman + Crowe = *dies*
I've not seen the original or any stage version of the show before, but that trailer looks REALLY good! I'm guessing Anne Hathaway is playing a Brit, which will be interesting following her awful Yorkshire accent in One Day...

No. All the characters are traditionally French (although you never find out anything about Fantine's upbringing).

My friend appears as an extra in this! That alone pretty much guarantees my watching of this film. That and some of the filming was done where I live!

I'm a bad gay and I've never, ever seen this before in my life. BUT I saw the trailer and it looks really.. depressing. Which is totally my thing.

Is Les Mis really that depressing?

God yes. The stage show makes most people cry, so I have a feeling that the film will do so too.

I plan to see this, mainly for Crowe and Hathaway. Very excited as I've never seen the play and I've been meaning to!

I've never seen the musical so I had no interest in this (especially as it's by the director of The King's Speech), but the recent trailers have really hit the right spot for me. There was an interesting behind-the-scenes extended trailer before The Master today all about the revolutionary way they've sung it all live (with a pianist playing the tune into their earpieces, and an orchestra added in post), and it does seem a much more direct, emotional way of doing it. And Anne Hathaway looks heartbreaking, 'I Dreamed A Dream' may actually break me.

So this was a little bit incrdible! Depressing, but bloody good! Anne Hathaways performance was outstanding, they were all exceptional on the whole, but Anne Hathaways performance of 'I Dreamed A Dream' was flawless. Definitely gonna see the play soon! I've got to!

Saw it today, "what a load of crap" one person said as he was walking out at the end of the film, personally I'm not that far behind him, the start of the movie was brilliant, the middle dragged a bit, the end was pretty good. Mind you I was dragged to go and see it as its not my thing, my other half wanted to see it.

Anne Hathaway's part in the film was fairly short lived. I didn't know Russell Crowe could sing.

Éponine was originally to be casted by Taylor Swift.

I'm seeing this on Sunday, really excited, most of what I've heard is positive.
