Over the past few weeks you have been voting for your favourite songs that have only spent one week in the top 10. Some of those songs have gone on to be classics, and others generally forgotten by the general public. Here were the songs that you voted from (below). 24 of you (and 1 of me) voted in the final. Now is the part of the competition where I reveal the results.

All ties have been broken by number of voters (I've decided not to break ties by number of points scored in the yearly rounds this time, because of the bias in points towards later years where there weren't many songs to choose from)

50 - Scissor Sisters "Filthy/Gorgeous" (2005) (+49)

5-12-18-24-24-30-34-51-65->9

Starting off the countdown is the Scissor Sisters' second top ten hit, and only entry on the chart. This came 3rd in the 2005 round, however it is the lowest of the 6 songs from the year to chart. The Sisters are still around today, their new album Magic Hour was #3 on Radio 1's Midweek Update and their Calvin Harris produced single Only The Horses is still in the T40. Calvin Harris will be in this chart with "Acceptable In The 80s". Onto the song itself, it is one of my least favourite of their big singles, however I do like it. It sounds very disco, with some guitars thrown in the chorus, which isn't a bad thing as it made the SS very unique. If only the UK public got "Laura" into the top 10, now that was a great song.

Bre, call yourself VERY lucky. I just saw your post as I was about to post this. I have now added your points but before revealing any more results I'll need to break some ties :P

No more votes after this post please

Bray if "Mr. Brightside" fails to win this because of you forgetting to vote I will not be pleased.

"Knights of Cydonia" ftw in an ideal world.

EDIT: Never mind.

49 - Ash "Shining Light" (2001) (+58)

8-25-39-60->4

OK, I'm not a big fan of this version of the song. I heard the Annie Lennox cover of this a lot before finally getting round to hearing the original, and imo Annie Lennox >>>> Ash. But there were enough fans of this to get it straight through to the finals. It came 3rd in the yearly rounds but finishes the lowest out of the 4 songs of 2001 that feature in this countdown.

48 - Will Young "Your Game" (2004) (+62)

3-11-16-24-39-46-54-60-70->9

One of Will's better songs, I'm not a fan of him but this song is listenable. It came 3rd in the yearly round and it is the first of 4 songs of 2004 to chart.

Shit, I forget about this :( My top 2 would've been Behind These Hazel Eyes and Listen though, the latter got a few undeserved minus 2s so would've needed my 25 :(

Ah well, BTHE ftw :D As long as it's not the awfully overrated U + Ur Hand though!

  • Author
Oh I forgot to include a -2! Toss a -2 to 'Flux' please :kink:

It's a bit late now. But its position in this chart would be the same even with your -2, so there's no point giving it a -2 now. Anyway, on with the chart

47 - Safri Duo "Played-A-Live (The Bongo Song)" (2001) (+64)

6-11-14-19-27-33-43-66-73->9

A great trance song which came 2nd in its yearly round. I was pleasantly surprised to see this go straight through! As the title suggests, it has a lot of bongos in it which gives it a lot of uniqueness. This is the only trance song to be in the final 50, however we do have some dance acts coming up (Prodigy, Pendulum, Chase & Status, Calvin Harris)

46 - R.E.M. "Imitation of Life" (2001) (+67)

6-15-24-36-45-64-66-73-73->9

I didn't recognise this song by its name, but after you tubing it I knew what it was. It's an average R.E.M. song, they have had much better songs in the past such as Everybody Hurts, Stand, Losing My Religion, Shiny Happy People and The One I Love. It came 4th in the yearly round but finishes ahead of 2 songs from 2001. There is one 2001 song left in the chart that we'll see a bit later on.

45 - Coldplay "Trouble" (2000) (+68)

10-18-19-26-39-48-66-71-72->9

I don't think I've heard this song before, but a quick youtube tells me that it's another one of their boring ballads. However, I'm sure there are a lot of Coldplay fans on this site who disagree with me on that statement. It came 4th in the yearly round, going straight through to the final. However, another Coldplay song from 2000 charts higher than this despite charting lower in the yearly round.

This is the lowest of the 10 songs that went to the semi finals. It makes sense as it finished 10th in the semi finals. The song was one of the better ones of the landfill indie invasion of 2006.

Before her milkshake brought the boys to the yard, she released this. It has a nice beat and the catchy hook of "I hate you so much right now"

The second of four Coldplay songs to feature in this countdown, this being my personal favourite of the 4. It came 3rd in the yearly round but today it finishes the lowest of the 6 2003 songs featured in this countdown.

And just missing out the top 40 is Blink 182's 2nd most popular song, I Miss You. I liked the song at the time, not so much now but it's nice enough. It came 4th in the yearly round but it finishes 3rd out of the 4 songs of 2004.

Looking forward to the rest (although forgot to vote)

This... would have been nice to have had the deadline extended a couple of days considering the board was down for half of the time period. I can appreciate nobody had any idea that was going to happen but we basically had 2 days of voting. :blink:

Although in my case I actually saw the thread before the board went down and made a mental note to vote later, but that obviously wasn't possible. Ah well.

I'm sorry guys that a lot of you missed out voting :( I did bump the thread up and leave it a few hours but only to no reply, so I started the thread. I hope you guys still enjoy the results :D
Clocks should be a lot higher out of those, its only behind The Scientist & Fix You in my affections (and there aren't many songs that go above those two anyway)
