June 5, 201213 yr THE NATION'S FAVOURITE NUMBER 1 The Public can Vote for the Nation's Favourite No.1 here:, http://www.itv.com/nationsfavouritenumberone/ No they can't! They can vote on a preselected list of 60 songs which ITV have deemed to be the 60 most loved....
June 6, 201213 yr I think Buzzjack should do a Best Number 1 of all time rate early prediction: 1. Bad Romance 2. Hung Up
June 6, 201213 yr No they can't! They can vote on a preselected list of 60 songs which ITV have deemed to be the 60 most loved.... Yes, one track from each year and as far as I can tell, only one track per artist. Rather limited you might think but there are well over 1000 no1s, to ask people to select from those would be rather unwieldy.

June 7, 201213 yr I'm guessing the lack of consistency is probably due to the fact that the writer's each must have written a complete article of 60 songs and then the editor probably chose the best write-up for each year from those he/she was given by the writers. Give them marks for having their own take on things though, the only list of best number ones to not feature Imagine or Bo Rhap in it!
June 7, 201213 yr my selections Difficult years were 1992 - could easily have chosen Rhythm is a Dancer or SOS from the ABBA-esque EP 2000 - Masses Against the Classes just lost out 1980 David Bowie "Ashes to Ashes" 1981 The Police "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic" 1982 Kraftwerk "Computer Love"/"The Model" 1983 Michael Jackson "Billie Jean" 1984 Frankie Goes to Hollywood "The Power Of Love" 1985 Eurythmics "There Must Be an Angel (Playing with My Heart)" 1986 a-ha "The Sun Always Shines on T.V. 1987 Pet Shop Boys "It's a Sin" 1988 The Timelords "Doctorin' the Tardis" 1989 Black Box "Ride on Time" 1990 Adamski featuring Seal "Killer" 1991 U2 "The Fly" 1992 Shakespears Sister "Stay" 1993 Ace of Base "All That She Wants" (what an awful year for number 1s) 1994 Baby D "Let Me Be Your Fantasy" 1995 Oasis "Some Might Say" 1996 The Prodigy "Firestarter" 1997 The Verve "The Drugs Don't Work" (what a great year for number 1s) 1998 Manic Street Preachers "If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next" 1999 Armand Van Helden "U Don't Know Me" 2000 Melanie C. featuring Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes "Never Be The Same Again" 2001 Rui da Silva "Touch Me" 2002 Aaliyah "More Than a Woman" 2003 t.A.T.u. June 7, 201213 yr A wild bandwagon appears. (I'll do 1981 onwards as before that there are too many songs I've never heard). These are just my favourite #1s as songs and not necessarily the 'best' #1s in terms of significance etc. The one exception to that is 1999 where I prefer Blondie's 'Maria' as a song but 'Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen)' feels more deserving to be on this list. 1981 Adam And The Ants - Prince Charming 1982 Survivor - Eye Of The Tiger 1983 Michael Jackson - Billie Jean 1984 George Michael - Careless Whisper 1985 Eurythmics - There Must Be An Angel (Playing With My Heart) 1986 The Housemartins - Caravan Of Love 1987 Pet Shop Boys - It's A Sin 1988 Enya - Orinoco Flow 1989 Black Box - Ride On Time 1990 Snap! - The Power 1991 The Clash - Should I Stay Or Should I Go (not counting 'Bohemian Rhapsody') 1992 Snap! - Rhythm Is A Dancer 1993 Culture Beat - Mr. Vain 1994 Doop - Doop 1995 Coolio feat. L.V. - Gangsta's Paradise 1996 The Prodigy - Breathe 1997 The Verve - The Drugs Don't Work 1998 Madonna - Frozen 1999 Baz Luhrmann - Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen) 2000 Eminem feat. Dido - Stan 2001 Shaggy feat. Rik Rok - It Wasn't Me 2002 Eminem - Lose Yourself 2003 Tomcraft - Loneliness 2004 Britney Spears - Toxic 2005 Stereophonics - Dakota 2006 My Chemical Romance - Welcome To The Black Parade 2007 Sugababes - About You Now 2008 Coldplay - Viva La Vida 2009 Calvin Harris - I'm Not Alone 2010 Owl City - Fireflies 2011 Example - Stay Awake 2012 Coldplay - Paradise ('so far' but extremely unlikely to be beaten) On a completely unrelated note, making this list has made me notice for the first time that there were back to back #1s in 2001 called 'Eternity' and 'Eternal Flame'. Weird that. Snap!, Eminem and Coldplay all providing two songs for this list - I expected/understand the latter two but Snap! is a bit WTF. 'The Power' and 'Rhythm Is A Dancer' are both amazing songs though. Edited June 7, 201213 yr by Bré

June 7, 201213 yr I love the inclusion of Tubeway Army and Sugababes - two amazing songs based on the one. Two of my favourite songs ever too.
June 7, 201213 yr Band Of Gold by Freda Payne is by far the best #1 of 1970 and possibly also the best #1 of that entire decade - yes, even over Heart of Glass, I Feel Love, Bohemian Rhapsody, etc. Sometimes simplicity and pure feeling can beat fancy production. I agree with most of tonyttt31's choices overall, actually. Especially in the 1980s and 1990s where the only ones I feel strongly against are Ace Of Base and The Verve. My favourite #1 of last year was Wretch 32's Don't Go, lol. Shows how selective I am these days, there's loads I don't even know/remember but he is cool and I bought his album. And I don't even know what has reached #1 in 2012 but Titanium is good I guess so I'll go with the majority there.
