Can't believe at how good their reception was for that gig! However, am I right in assuming a lot of their already-US fans were at the show?

Hope you all got a little more from What About Us from the new video too.

Was it just me or in that set was Vanessa's voice really deep?! I remember when it went like that a while back, it was a bit unusual. Although, she did deliver a rather good vocal, including "Closer baby look in my eyes do you recognise me" actually came out alot clearer. People slate her for falsetto "blow my mind" in All Fired Up in her middle 8, but I still think it's rather fitting when she does it live (as it's not in the studio recording). It churns momentum for Una's "keep me on your radar". If she were to burst out in belting mode for that, she'd have to continue doing something during that final chorus pre-Una else it would be such an anti-climax.

Just watching from those 3 performances, you have 3 great songs there. But, when I think back about the performance there is a blurryness that makes me want to bleed all 3 tracks together - the choreography. You can tell the difference between Notorious and All Fired with What About Us that there is an improvement with some more slick moves. But it's the group formation sections (see, Notorious - Frankie's middle 8, What About Us - the chorus in general, All Fired Up - pretty much the first minute of the track). Although it may look pretty and clever there is way too much of it.

They still put on a really great set though, shame it wasn't a little longer.

As much as I love the routine to What About Us, it's like they took every best moves they had in their past routine and made an amazing one out of them. It's kinda still a bit "lazy".

Weird thing is that this routine isn't from their usual choreographer (Paul Domaine, isn't it ?). Since they were in LA and he was still in the UK, they obviously worked with someone new... But it's weird because there's a lot of similar moves from their old routines. If it was another routine by Paul, I would have understood, but this is not the case. Its almost like the girls have a say in their routines (oh I want that, oh I wanna do something like that, you know) which could explain why there are similar moves to their old routines. Obviously, there are some very amazing and new moves that I really like, but yeah...

By the way, am I the only one to love the new intro of Notorious ? The beat is different and they do this little move one after the other. It's kinda cool.

I think it's more a case of this new choreographer doing his research (ie, seeing what stuff they've done in the past, seeing what looks good, what doesn't) then showcasing the girls what they've come up with. The worst thing that could of happened is that the routine for What About Us could have been a complete anti-Saturdays event. The choreo for What About Us stays true to them, but also gets them doing some rather slick moves. The choreo for Una's breakdown is awesome.

I love this part of the routine. It's very "Britney"-ish, don't you think ?

By the way, guys, there's an article coming on the Billboard website on Tuesday...Apparently, there's some exciting news...Hopefully, it's not the thing we already know (What About Us, Sean Paul and Darkchild...)

Yes! A lot of hair whipping and flipping - the 2nd section after they come up from all the hair waving is VERY Britney

The thing is though it's hard to not have the same things in Routine's after so many singles, looking at the likes of Stooshe, The Wanted they just stand on the stage, I wasn't overly impressed by Little Mix's routine aswell!

Everytime I look at the Little Mix dancing, it almost seems like i'm watching three Una dancing and a Vanessa (which means average dancer). There's so much posing, moving their booty right and left, standing there "because we're harmonizing to the bit just before the chorus ya'll !!1!!1!" and new formations going on, so I really don't see why The Saturdays get so much shit for doing the same thing. Every girlgroups do that !

The routine to What About Us is really great and I hope the track will live up to my expectations.

I actually think management have done the right decision regarding What About Us being released in January(SHOCKER) as much as I want to hear it/released soon, I truly believe they will get lost with the sales climate and other competition, and this release is VITAL. The only worry about January is promotion, there's not any big promotion slots!

They don't need promotion. They need airplay, good airplay. Good airplay such as in like 5-6 weeks in the top 10 airplay. Not a #14 peak. Their promo could be their usual small slots. I mean who cares ? They won't ever get slots like X-Factor and BGT or The Voice. Their management still do a great job about getting them their usual slots. I mean, these might not be as big as the shows I mentioned, but it doesn't mean they're always available...

So, I want good airplay for this. Not a #1 on the airplay chart, just some very good airplay. Is that too much to ask ?

About the January release : it's a smart move. It's a long wait, but it's for good reasons! Thanks God this is not OA/OS in the UK !

#14 on airplay isn't that bad. Being the song with the 14th highest audience in a particular week is pretty good really, when you consider how many songs are vying for attention at any one time.

The Saturdays get far better airplay than Girls Aloud did for many years. Just look these peaks...

#26 · Life Got Cold

#20 · Jump

#25 · The Show

#36 · Love Machine

#20 · Wake Me Up

#42 · Long Hot Summer

#34 · Biology

#55 · Whole Lotta History

#19 · Something Kinda Ooooh

#67 · I Think We're Alone Now

#54 · Walk This Way [sugababes vs. Girls Aloud]

#30 · Sexy! No No No...

I would say promotion is more important for The Saturdays. Slightly better airplay would be a bonus obviously, but airplay alone will not ensure The Saturdays anything more than a Top 10 hit with a brief chart run.

Check the airplay of Little Mix and StooShe, having success.

Then go check the airplay of Parade, not having any success.

#14 for an established act like them, it's not good. Especially with a song like All Fired Up.

Their promotion is perfectly fine with what they usually do. They CAN'T get any big slots, people should just forget about it.

Little Mix are an X Factor girl band propelled to the highest of heights straight away, and have Syco backing. They were instantly on a higher level than The Saturdays will perhaps ever be. Huge airplay success for their first "proper" single was inevitable. With Stooshe, it's yet to be seen whether 'Black Heart' is a fluke. That song had the kind of widespread appeal that no release by The Saturdays has ever had. Parade aren't worth mentioning as a comparison.

Pretty much every act that makes Top 50 on airplay is "established"; that's really quite a moot point. They can't all be Top 10 at the same time, it's completely luck of the draw. Top 15 on radio is fine, for the explanation I wrote in my previous post - it's still provides them with a high audience figure. If it was #700-ish like Nicola Roberts, that would be worth worrying about.

A high airplay peak really isn't the be all and end all of a successful single, proof of that being Girls Aloud time and time again. 'Missing You' was #1 on airplay, and ultimately that single was no more successful than 'All Fired Up', with its #14 airplay peak.

The Saturdays' level of promotion for each single isn't perfectly fine, otherwise they'd be achieving bigger hits. At the end of the day, things won't improve for them in the UK unless they do nab themselves performance slots on higher profile shows. The fact that they seemingly cannot, after 4 years, 4 albums and 13 singles is a shame, but is certainly a strong indication that the fans shouldn't be getting worked up into a frenzy about 'What About Us' doing anything special for them - whether it's a #1 on airplay or #14. Most of you in this topic are getting so carried away!

Pretty much +1 everything Jay said. And I know we haven't heard the studio version of 'What About Us' yet, but going on the live performances, it sounds as if it's going to be nothing better than what was on 'On Your Radar' (which I happen to think is their best album).

totally agree Jay.

At the end of the day, The Saturdays have been around long enough for them to have made their mark, just like Girls Aloud did when they released Tangled Up, perhaps even when TSOGA came out.

The Saturdays are unlikley to ever break the barrier that appears to lodge itself above where they have peaked and what is next. Sure, I don't doubt What About Us is an incredible pop song that I will adore, but even if they break the US, it doesn't mean they will be bigger than say Higher, Issues, All Fired Up here. They need an X Factor/Voice/whatever slot to get the music to a bigger audience, and as long as they stick to the GMTV/Alan Titschmarch/Loose Women/CBBC circuit, then they wont get that longeivity, just a frontloaded fan run.

I love the girls don't get me wrong, but I was a huge Spice Girls fan as a kid, then a Girls Aloud fan as a teen, so i've seen global success, uk success and The Sats lol. They just always seem to fall below the mark in terms of success. Knowing that GA will have a single in a few months, and likley a sell out UK tour, and that perhaps the SG may reunite next year for a stadium gig, along with StooShe, Little Mix and MKS singles and albums in the winter/fall, I struggle to see how The Saturdays are going to break through and have their big #1 hit they've been longing for.

There were so many good songs on the OYR album that could have ensured a slightly longer top 75 run, if January is a good time to get a hit, why not turf out Faster or Do What You Want With Me as a single?! They miss oppertunitys constantly. I actually liked 30 Days, but they radio prem'd it 6 weeks before release, with the first tv performance on release day! It makes no sense! With not a major airplay record, how was three low-key <2m tv performances going to shift it! The same goes for WAU - radio prem in Nov/Dec while everybody is loving on Christmas songs and the actual chart songs, then waiting till the New Year to actually release it - when it is likley they wont be in the country as they will want to be promoting it in the US! How is that going to create a huge #1.

Sorry if i've come across slightly negative, im jus trying to keep things in perspective

I get the impression with the Saturudays that they don't really care, and they don't have much input into their careers at all. I'm not saying that they don't, they probably care and have creative input but when I listen to their music and then watch them etc I feel like they're just treating it as a day job (which is fair enough) and not as this big life changing thing that it is. I don't think they'll ever gain a number one, or a big selling album anymore because I don't think they care enough for it. Either that or they are being managed horrifically, because OYR was their strongest record since Chasing Lights, but they seem to be missing a spark that they really need :(

I hope they do a greatest hits soon, and then leave whilst they're remembered fondly rather than do a Sugababes situation and fizzle, because I don't think there is much more that will be done to save them :(

All doom and gloom init...

They work really hard. If they didn't care then they wouldn't have pitched the whole reality show would they. Le'ts remind ourselves that they weren't handed this opportunity on a plate.

Wow, you guys are so hard to please, i've started to avoid the thread, because for once things seem to be going okay/good and it's good to be a fan (for once) yet people just complain over the slightest thing. Stop complaining and praise how hard there working at the moment.

Like I said, I don't doubt that they are working hard, but it doesn't show in their material or to people who listen to Sats music and are not Buzzjack stans...
