ROBBIE WILLIAMS: 'I'D BE DEAD IF IT WASN'T FOR MY MANAGERS'

Singer made the admission during awards speech

Robbie Williams has paid tribute to his team of managers at a London awards ceremony, admitting: "I'd be dead if it wasn't for my managers."

The singer won the Artists' Artist gong at the Artist and Manager Awards at London's The Troxy on Thursday, and thanked his team for helping him through his more difficult times.

The singer, who rose to fame with Take That in the 1990s before achieving solo success, has battled with mental illness and substance addictions in the past. The singer has also struggled with Bipolar disorder, and entered rehab in 2007 for addiction to prescription drugs. He has also been teetotal for around fourteen years.

"I'd be dead if it wasn't for my managers," Williams told the crowd at the awards ceremony, adding: "I'm serious, so thanks."

Williams' tenth studio album, Swings Both ways, was released in November last year, and topped the UK albums chart, becoming the UK's 1000th No.1 album. The album features both covers and original material, including 'I Wanna Be Like You' featuring Olly Murs, and 'Dream a Little Dream' featuring Lily Allen.

Other big winners at the Artist and Manager Awards included Paul McCartney's representative Scott Rodger who was named Manager of the Year, and Pharrell Williams, who received the Artist of the Year Award.

:(

They have been real good to him down through the years ..

Yes. I'd agree with that. And I'm pretty sure it(he) can't have been easy at times.
They get paid , I'm sure it somewhat eases the pain for them :P

Robbie Williams reveals tour inspiration

Robbie Williams' forthcoming tour is inspired by ''classic old musicals''.

The 'Candy' hitmaker's 'Swing Both Ways Live' shows kick off in Budapest in two weeks time, and he has promised something ''very special'' for the 46 European shows.

He said: ''This 'Swings Both Ways' tour is very different from any previous Robbie Williams tour, and I think it's going to be very special.

''When I was young the television companies in the UK saw fit to broadcast replay after replay after replay of all the classic old musicals. I think most kids my age were bored and turned off by things like that, but I wasn't. I was engrossed in it all, lost in the magic of the glamour, and entranced by the craftsmanship of those times.''

And the 40-year-old singer went on to suggest the shows will have a ''variety'' feel to them.

He added: ''I want this to be a show that gives you the same feeling that I used to have at my grandma's on a Saturday night, watching the 'Morecambe & Wise Show' on TV: a show with variety and lots of showbusiness moments. I know my jazz hands are going to be so tired after this tour. I intend to do my very best to ensure that every one of you is heavily entertained.''

The shows will see Robbie perform tracks from last year's 'Swing Both Ways' album and 2001's 'Swing When You're Winning' backed by a classic big band and eight dancers, and joined by a number of special guests, including his father Pete Conway.

The 'Let Me Entertain You' hitmaker has also enlisted West End choreographer Alistair David to work alongside his longtime show producer Lee Lodge to help put the gigs together

Robbie Williams hot favourite to replace Kylie Minogue on The Voice with odds on Chris Martin slashed

Apr 11, 2014 20:05 By Rebecca Pocklington

All three of the current judges are set to stay with Jessie J hot on Robbie's tail - but bad news Simon Cowell fans, he's only 100/1

Kylie's going, but who will take the hot seat?

As Kylie Minogue quits The Voice today, we take a look at who is hot favourite to take her place, according to the bookies.

Tom Jones, Ricky Wilson and Will.i.am look set to stay with the top odds going to them, but a new favourite to take over Kylie's spot and make it an all-male panel is singing sensation Robbie Williams, with odds of 6/1.

Jessie J has odds of 8/1 to return to the show, according to Paddy Power, and others in the running include Will.i.am's pal Fergie at 16/1, who was reportedly in talks to join the X Factor, and Gary Barlow at 16/1 too.

Chris Martin is also in the running, with odds of 16/1 to join the panel after his split from wife Gwyneth Paltrow.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like Simon Cowell will be hanging up his X Factor reins just yet and only has odds of 100/1 to join the panel, as does controversial singer Miley Cyrus.

A Paddy Power spokesman said: “Chris Martin will have a lot of spare time now after consciously uncoupling with Gwynnie and, having mentored contestants in the Voice US, we have been forced to slash the odds from 50/1 to 16/1 for him to take the red spinning chairs in next seasons The Voice UK.”

Gary Barlow: I regret going behind Take That bandmates backs to record lead vocals on early hit

Gary Barlow has revealed his regrets after going behind the backs of his Take That bandmates to record the lead vocal on a single - which meant Robbie Williams was dumped from one of their biggest early hits.

Tuesday 29/04/2014

In a new BBC documentary the star explains he is still haunted by failing to tell the others he had taken the lead on chart-topping track Relight My Fire, and says: "I just did it in a way that upset people."

Gary - who last year rejuvenated his solo career - tells actor James Corden that he stepped in when Robbie, who had been earmarked for the main role, was struggling with the song.

In the BBC One film When Corden Met Barlow, to be screened next week, he says of Robbie: "H e went in and I got a call from the producer late in the night saying 'we've had him in all night and it's just not working'.

"And so the next day I just thought I'm just gonna do it. In defence of everyone else I should have just said to everyone, I'm going to go in and do a vocal today. There's a few things in that time which, believe me, still come up. I just went in bang and I did it."

Robbie went on to leave the group in the mid-1990s and there was a deep rift between him and Gary for many years until they eventually buried the hatchet after almost a decade and a half, cementing their bond with a joint single and Robbie's eventual return to Take That.

In the film, to be screened on May 5, he also talks about how he had little interest in joining a group but, aside from having to dance, he enjoyed the camaraderie when he attended the audition for manager Nigel Martin Smith.

" The dancing was the bit I was dreading the most. I didn't really want to be in a band if I'm honest, but there was something there, I liked being part of a team that day. I liked being up there all together, all going through the same thing."

There's something about that wording that still says 'I'm top dog'.

I know they're bezzie mates now - but I think I understand why Robbie left in the first place!

My OH said the other night 'can't Barlow stay off the f*cking TV for five minutes?'

Aleister Crowleinfluence y’s on Ian Gillan and Robbie Williams

May 2, 2014

Having written much about Aleister Crowley and his influence upon pop-occulture, we will, herein, continue considering personage who have looked to the to mega therion / the great beast for inspiration. Find our previous articles on Crowley here—which range from L. Ron Hubbard’s Scientology to Damien Echols (of the West Memphis Three-WM3 murders infamy) and much, much more.

The following is translated from Paolo Baroni’s Italian site, “Tutti Pazzi Per Crowley [something about Crowley],” Centro Sangiorgio, December 27, 2013 AD.

ROBBIE WILLIAMS

“Robbie Williams is a British singer-songwriter and musician who his musical career began in 1990 as a member of Take That, which soon became one of the most successful and renowned musical groups of the period.

In 1995, Robbie left the group to start a solo career. In 2005, Williams released Intensive Care (EMI), an album contains the song Random Acts of Kindness. In this piece Williams sings: ‘And with Crowley on my mind / I should try being kind’ [also For those about to die / We salute you]. Indeed, in recent years, in the course of several interviews the well-known British singer has made no secret of his interest in UFOs, the occult and the Thelemite theories.”

The Intensive Care album contains a set of tarot cards designed by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely:

“Morrison and Robbie Williams became friends after they attended one of the speeches of Morrison in Los Angeles. As it happens, Morrison is a disciple of Crowley and Williams agrees with the idea that the magus has come into contact with alien intelligences.”

From an Andrew Williams interview with Morrison (“Superman writer Grant Morrison: I taught Robbie Williams magic,” Metro Magazine, July 12, 2011 AD):

“You taught Robbie Williams some magic rituals, didn't you?

He got really into magic in 2005 just before His Intensive Care album came out. The artist Frank Quitely and I did some tarot card images for that album but no one picked up on it. I think he was doing some basic spells himself and it was working out quite well for him.”

Williams has gotten an eye of Horus/Ra tattoo on his neck and one across his chest that states, “chacun a son gout” which is a form of a French phrase for to each his own, there's no accounting for taste; in other words, do what thou wilt.
