A Doctor Who writer and producer have admitted that Robbie Williams was once in the frame to play the Doctor.

The pop star was considered for the role at a time when the long-running sci-fi series was trying to break back into the mainstream.

Before it returned as a fully-fledged drama, the BBC produced an animated series called Scream of the Shalka which saw Richard E Grant ultimately voice the Time Lord and was released via the show’s official website.

It has been revealed that Robbie Williams was eyed for the role in a documentary about the DVD release of the animation however, according to Blogtor Who.

‘Because we were reaching for the mainstream, I actually thought, ‘He’s one of the most famous people in Britain’ – it would actually get us an enormous kick of attention,’ writer Paul Cornell explained.

Producer James Goss added: ‘Think about it – if you really wanted to bring Doctor Who to a whole new audience, it would have been the most popular, talked-about thing the BBC website ever did.’

The Candy singer could not voice the Doctor however due to his busy schedule.

The latest Doctor actor was unveiled this summer, with a show writer this week saying he thinks Peter Capaldi is a brilliant choice despite not being as young and having as ‘sexy cheekbones’ as some fans would like.

Robbie Williams spends £30k on back treatment after injuring it on tour

1 Sep 2013 00:00

He has suffered crippling lower back spasms during the final leg of his 26-date Take The Crown arena tour

Robbie Williams may be back but he very nearly wasn’t Back for Good after severely injuring his, erm, back.

However, like any self-respecting millionaire mega-star, he flew an expert 4,000 miles to treat him at an estimated cost of £30,000. Standard.

I can reveal that the Robster, 39, suffered crippling lower back spasms during the final leg of his 26-date Take The Crown arena tour.

It left the Rock DJ singer unable to stand up the day before his sold-out show in Tallinn, Estonia. Worried concert bosses called on the services of celebrity chiropractorDr Allan Austin Oolo.

Robbie’s little Angel hopped on a flight from Canada to place his healing hands on the star in his suite.

Dr Oolo told me: “Robbie was wincing in pain when he walked into the room. He was stooping over with terrible lower back spasms and swelling, and he really couldn’t sit down or stand up. He said he’d hurt his back last year doing some sort of jump from a height.

“A few days before he saw me he’d done a jump on stage that had made it much worse.

“At that moment it would have been absolutely impossible for him to have performed.

“Robbie was very humble and didn’t want to let his fans down so I worked on him during three intensive sessions the following day.”

Dr Oolo used a technique called Trigenics – I’m told it’s where the patient’s nerve sensors are gently manipulated while they do small muscle exercises – right up until the last minute.

He added: “Thirty minutes before the show Robbie was lying on a treatment bench in his private dressing room backstage.

“I said to him, There’s no way you can jump tonight. It is really dangerous because you could do yourself some serious damage’.

“He said that he wouldn’t but... of course he did. He even apologised to the audience, saying he felt a bit ‘insecure’ about his back and was sorry for not dancing more.

“I thought that was very humble of him, considering the amount of pain I’d seen him in.

“He will need follow-up sessions to stop his back problems returning.”

I’m sure there are a few ladies who would happily get their hands on him...

I've been suffering from lower back pain for months now. Unfortunately I don't have a spare £30,000.... :(

Sir Elton John to throw birthday bash for Robbie Williams' daughter

Sir Elton John has offered to throw a birthday party for Robbie Williams' baby daughter.

The 'Rocket Man' hitmaker is keen to host a big celebration in Los Angeles on September 18 for Theodora 'Teddy' Rose's first birthday and is also hoping to make it a joint bash for his two children Zachary, two, and seven-month-old son Elijah.

A source told The Sun newspaper: ''Rob and Elton have been good mates for years. Elton and David Furnish want it to be a joint bash for their two lads Zachary and Elijah. They are sparing no expense.

''The party's going to be at Elton's pad in Beverly Hills and there will be no shortage of other celebrity families.

''Adele and her boy Angelo are invited as well as Gary Barlow and his family.

''It will be typically extravagant, with plenty of surprises for the kids including clowns, bouncy castles and face painting.''

The 66-year-old musician - who was struck down with crippling appendicitis two months ago - is used to performing up to 100 concerts a year, but is planning to significantly reduce his workload next year when Zachary goes to school because he wants to be around to care for him.

He said previously: ''The great thing about small children is they're portable, so we take them everywhere, but when it comes to 2015, Zachary's going to school, and I want to be there to drop him off and pick him up. I don't want to just be the father who reads them a bedtime story.

''I want to be one of the dads in the playground, there for parents' evenings, sports day. I am so looking forward to it.''

Robbie Williams To Team Up With Sharon Osbourne On X Factor?

Robbie will join Sharon Osbourne in the Judges' Houses

Although a former bandmate to Gary Barlow, Robbie Williams is reported to be teaming up with Sharon Osbourne on The X Factor this year. According to The Sun, Sharon chose the singer to join her at her Los Angeles home for the Judges' Houses round, starting filming today, to help choose which of her Over 25s group will go through to the live finals. A source told The Sun: "Robbie is now part of the X Factor family and is always great value on the show. He's a completely safe bet and a big hit with viewers. "So Sharon's happy, and he only lives round the corner so it's convenient."

Robbie appeared as a Judges' Houses assistant in 2011 to help Gary judge the boys, who included Marcus Collins and Frankie Cocozza. It was originally speculated that Sharon would be joined by her husband Ozzy Osbourne at the Judges' Houses round, and, due to the fact that Sharon is filming in her own house, there is still a chance that the rock legend may appear. Louis Walsh will be joined by Sinitta and Nicole Appleton for this year's Judges' Houses.

Meanwhile, we're only two weeks into the current series of The X Factor and a booze ban has already been imposed on this year's hopefuls, according to reports. The six groups that made it through to judges houses apparently had a a very dry trip to New York after making it through boot camp. Producers are understood to have taken action after last year's crop took full advantage of the bar during their seven hour trip from London to the US. A source told The Mirror: “Last year there was some criticism over the behaviour of some of the acts getting too drunk and being unruly.

By Joe Michalczuk, Arts and Entertainment Reporter

Robbie Williams has admitted he still has a professional rivalry with his former Take That bandmate Gary Barlow, but life is much better now they are not enemies.

The star has been talking to Sky News ahead of the release of his new album Swings Both Ways next month.

The record comes out in the same week as Gary Barlow’s first studio album in 14 years, Since I Saw You Last.

"I’m a competitive guy, I hope he sells a million - and I sell a million and one," Williams said.

"I’m really pleased he’s going to be around and with me for the rest of our lives - it’s miles better than when I was his enemy."

Williams' new album is a return to swing music - a genre he first visited in 2001 with Swing When You’re Winning which remains his best selling record to date.

The 39-year-old singer told Sky News he will always come back to swing as Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald were his first introduction to music.

He said he would sit at home when he was four years old and just listen to their music "over and over again".

Swing Both Ways features six new tracks.

Go Gentle, the first single to be released, was penned with his old writing partner Guy Chambers and was written about Williams' 13-month-old daughter, Teddy.

The album also features collaborations with Lily Allen, Kelly Clarkson, Michael Buble, Olly Murs and Rufus Wainwright.

It marks the return of Smile singer Allen after her 'retirement'.

Williams admitted there have been countless times down the years when he has considered giving it all up himself.

"I’ve retired in the past, but I’ve never told anybody," he said.

"After every tour I think I’m never doing it again, but the truth is I intend to do it for the rest of my life."

Swings Both Ways is released on November 18.

Robbie Williams is a massive Michael Bublé fan

By Ed Dyson/Published 12th October 2013

ROBBIE WILLIAMS may act all chummy with fellow Take That singer Gary Barlow these days.

But he openly admits he hates all rival male pop stars his age. All except Canadian crooner Michael Bublé, 38, that is.

Robbie said: “Anyone my age and doing my job, I invariably don’t like them because I’m competitive and jealous and petty. But with Michael it’s different.

“He’s the link to a glamorous past that I wish I’d have been part of. He’s the pro’s pro and I love him to bits!”

“Anyone my age and doing my job, I invariably don’t like them because I’m competitive and jealous and petty. But with Michael it’s different”

That’s a serious man-crush you’ve got yourself there Rob. The Rock DJ hitmaker, who turns 40 in February, also opened up about his grey hairs.

He said: “I’d like to use Just For Men but I’m scared of what people will say.

“I want to remain a pop star as long as possible!”

We don’t mind the grey sides, but the skunk streak – on display as he left Radio 2 in London – has to go.

Robbie Williams: Gary Barlow is my rock

Candy singer Robbie Williams "always calls" Gary when he needs help

Barlow to release first solo album in 14 years

Robbie Williams has commended his former colleague Gary Barlow for being a loyal friend and insists that the Take That frontman is the person he calls upon in a crisis.

The 39-year-old Candy singer explained that Barlow has got him out of many tough situations over the years.

Speaking to the Daily Star newspaper, Williams said: ''I always call Gary - he can sort out any personal dilemma. Oh my lord, he's like a Swiss army knife. I needed something desperately the other night, I can't say what, but he sorted it out in a matter of minutes.''

Williams and Barlow are set to go head-to-head in the charts when their new solo records are released next month.

Robbie Williams for the ARIAs?

JONATHON MORAN SYDNEY CONFIDENTIAL THE DAILY TELEGRAPH OCTOBER 18, 2013 12:00AM

ROBBIE WILLIAMS is believed to have been signed as the international headliner for this year's ARIA Awards.

With the nominations announced in Sydney on Tuesday (Flume swept the pool with eight nods), talk has now turned to which big names will take to the stage at the awards at The Star Event Centre on December 1.

"Robbie Williams will be a surprise guest at the ARIAs," said a well-placed source.

It makes sense with Williams on the promo trail for his new album Swings Both Ways and also understood to be planning a trip to push his clothing label Farrell.

Confidential understands organisers are hard at work trying to secure some other big names.

It's often a good bet to gauge who is touring at the time. Justin Bieber is in Australia then and has a night off, so would be a prize name for the red carpet.

Aussie tween fave Cody Simpson is his tour support, so is a likely artist too.

Taylor Swift is touring from November but is playing an Auckland show on ARIAs night. Muse is also in town. Bruno Mars wraps his Aussie tour a few days before, as does Fleetwood Mac, while Alicia Keys is playing shows in December.

Surely the Farrell collapse cannot have been a surprise, did anyone not know it was not making money , it's all a bit weird really taking into consideration that he was supposed to be launching the label in Holland this week , did Robbie not know what was going on with the business , who actually looking after it

Edited by Sydney

It's very strange. Is he in such financial difficulties that he had to sack all his Farrell staff without any notice?

Or is Robbie not even their actual employer?
