Henderson's quality, gets so much undeserved stick. Was only bad for Liverpool when Kenny played him on the right of midfield. But he should have come on for Rooney, not Parker. Roy's getting tactically bossed.
I have to say much as I want England to go through, Italy definitely deserve it tonight. That second half of extra time was utterly appalling.
They should have gone with Mikeu's suggestion. Bloody hopeless, and oh so predictable. Sloppy, very sloppy.

Just awful.

Nerves got to the players. Never a good sign when you don't look at the keeper before taking a penalty.

Roy lost the match for us, didn't stop Pirlo. Should have put another central midfielder on.

Sigh. :(

Although I must say, Italy deserved that on the strength of the match so kudos to them. At least no humiliation by Germany will come this year :P

Why are England not able to win a penalty shoot-out EVER? :nono:

Eh, well done to Italy, they were clearly the better team.

Germany or them to take the title now please.

We can't even paint a masterclass canvas let alone win a penalty shoot out. We did miss a golden opportunity at the end of 90mins to settle the game. We just played poor overall.

Italy deserved to win

But I'll ask the question again.. Is this what you all want for the future of English football with Hodgson in charge ? Yes it's great grinding out results, but we're not doing anything to bridge the gap to stop us having to chase shadows for 90 minutes against the likes of Spain and Germany

I've said before and I'll say again, Hodgson was the absolute perfect appointment for the short-term, but for the long term it's a bit ridiculous. Having said that, the younger players we have that could come in are better ball retainers, more creative, less workmanlike than those that will be outgoing....

Hodgson: "we worked hard to keep him [Pirlo] in check" Really Roy ?

Those that were on the pitch probably did as well as they could really. It's why I said before the match that Milner is vital but yet again he got stick which was undeserved. You can't play with out and out wingers against a team who play with four midfielders who are all central, two are always going to have space unless a winger covers, it's natural to cover/mark those most forward letting the deepest midfielder have it, but that was a mistake.

My England player ratings:

Hart - 7

Johnson - 8

Terry - 8

Lescott - 7

Cole - 7

Milner - 6

Parker - 7

Gerrard - 7

Young - 5

Rooney - 5

Welbeck - 6

Walcott - 4

Carroll - 6

4-4-2 is not the way forward for the future. Wilshere would be completely wasted in the formation Roy plays. There was a huge problem tonight, and although we identified it, we didn't stop it or change things about. Ok out energy levels weren't there to press like the Italians did to us, but another body in midfield should have been put on. I feel sorry for Ashley Young because he is going to be the scapegoat, and although he was shite, Roy should have seen this and taken him off earlier. The earlier substitutions of Carroll and Walcott had no effect on the game whatsoever, if anything the former made the problem worse as we'd just hoof it up to Carroll.

Hart - Carroll was our most successful pass combination :|
