July 8, 201213 yr Given Sweden's love of the contest, I'm guessing most of the hockey fans are Euro-loons too!
July 8, 201213 yr Where do people buy Eurovision tickets from? Are they on sale yet? How much are they roughly? I have a loose desire to go to this, always wanted to with it in Sweden, but I have no idea how much it'll cost or how to acquire tickets.
July 8, 201213 yr Well, not a chance I'm going this year then (not that I was planning on going). I want to do a tour of all the Scandinavian major cities but it won't be for a few years (Denmark or Finland to win in a few years then). Anyway, my travelling desires aside, quite surprised at the choice. One effect I can think of is that the Danish committee are going to be pulling out all the stops to ensure they get a contender, which'll mean a lot of MOR in Dansk Melodi Grand Prix... :( But interesting in terms of a different host city. ALTHOUGH, looking at the history, Malmö has hosted once before, in 1992. I know times are different, but how did that turn out?

I have a loose desire to go to this, always wanted to with it in Sweden, but I have no idea how much it'll cost or how to acquire tickets. They're on sale in October, but it'll be insanely expensive to go to the final given they're the tickets with the highest demand and the Malmo Arena hosting it will be the smallest venue to have hosted it in quite a while. You'd be looking at about £150 or so minimum for a single ticket to the final alone, before you got to hotel, flight and living costs - but that'd all depend on how long you wanted to go for. If you're serious about going, my best advice would be to take a flight to Copenhagen, which is connected with Malmo by the Oresund Bridge, and which has return flights on sale at the moment for about £110, and to stay somewhere near Malmo in Sweden or somewhere cheap in Copenhagen itself (bit of an ask, but there must be places - the longer you leave it the fewer there'll be with demand shooting up, obviously). What you could do is get tickets for, say, one of the final rehearsals (which'll be a fair bit cheaper) and then watch the contest somewhere in Malmo or Copenhagen for the final, that's what a fair few fans tend to do. I'd say if you really wanted you could probably pull that off for anywhere between £300 and £500 for a few days, depending on accommodation etc.
July 9, 201213 yr Malmo :manson: Toning the contest down in the country that gave the world ABBA seems a little ironic to me.
July 9, 201213 yr What are all these mansons as if people even KNOW what Malmo's like! It's honestly not that bad a choice - and for that matter, Malmo Arena's only got five hundred fewer seats than Globen, so even though it's a downscale it's nothing massive compared to what we would've had anyway given Swedbank was out of the question.
July 9, 201213 yr Surely, a smaller venue will mean a better atmosphere which should come across on TV - something that didn't seem to happen in Baku! But yeah, it is a shame for the fact that 60,000 tickets could have easily been sold in Sweden!

Indeed. Do people really think future organisators don't know their own country and picked Malmö at RANDOM not thinking about their decision at all? Plus, literally ANYWHERE in Sweden is better than Baku (or Moscow).
July 9, 201213 yr I don't mind it being in Malmo, kill two birds with one stone if I get to see Copenhagen too (if I can save up enough money in time!)
July 9, 201213 yr Obviously Malmö is a lot better than Moscow/Baku/Belgrade, but the decision is a little disappointing considering it's no secret that it's basically the Marseille of Scandinavia. My Swedish lecturers and Swedish friends have all said it's a dive and that it's getting worse. I have no problems with the capacity of the arena (I honestly couldn't care less) but if people are expecting it to be as safe and cultural as Oslo or Stockholm then they're going to be in for a shock.
July 9, 201213 yr Oh and the dates are BALLS. The 14th, 16th and 18th. Right in the middle of my final ever uni exams. And my dad's birthday. Not to mention my dissertation has to be handed in that week or the week after. :(
July 9, 201213 yr This year's dates CLASHED with my exams horrifically, and I'm certain semi looning bumped me down from a First to a 2:1 in one of my module exams

Not to mention my dissertation has to be handed in that week or the week after. :( OMG! YES!!! I'm back from Florida for Eurovision week! If I get some cash soon (i.e. If I succeed at getting one of the two jobs I'm going for) I think I might make the trip! Probably hit up Copenhagen for SF1, Stockholm for SF2 and Malmo for the final. *begins planning before funds are available*
July 10, 201213 yr They should have picked Stockholm imo, but Malmö is a very beautiful city. 15.500 is only a couple thousands less than in the previous years, I don't think we will even notice. And don't forget that SVT is hosting this, it will be a marvellous contest anyway, even if they had decided to host in a kareoke bar! :P :cheer:
August 4, 201212 yr Well me and my friends reserved hotels in Malmo, Stockholm and Gothenburg as soon as we heard they were the candidate cities. The actual tickets go on sale in October then? I thought it was more February time?
September 10, 201212 yr The official Eurovision website has now been updated with the new logo and a nice big picture of Loreen! :D
October 17, 201212 yr eurovision.tv are reporting that there'll be only one presenter and no LED screens next year.
November 7, 201212 yr Author Apparantly the EBU & SVT have announced that they're getting rid of the running order draw for the final and the producers will decide the running order instead (with the exception of Sweden). Trust that to happen when Sweden are hosting. :D
