July 25, 201212 yr Plus, "Greatest Hits" suggests there were just as many (if not more) singles that the artist has released that didn't make it. Rihanna could just about make that claim after six albums, as Foo Fighters did, but a Coldplay GH would be a little pointless given they've only had about twenty proper UK singles anyway.
July 25, 201212 yr I think his point was that Coldplay and Rihanna are still going/in their prime, so they shouldn't be releasing their 'greatest hits' when they are potentially many great hits to come. The term 'singles collection' would be a better suited term for artists who are still going. I do kind of agree here. What's the point in a Rihanna Greatest Hits if she'll have another 20 or so hits to add 5 years down the line? That said, she has plenty of songs to pick from so it would be a wise marketing move. But for example Queen released their super-successful GH and kept on going strong. There's always chance of releasing the sequel, Vol. 2. For an artists such as Rihanna or Coldplay it would be the best choice as there'll be too many hits for one cd. Edited July 25, 201212 yr by SKOB
July 25, 201212 yr Wow, didn't realise Metallica hadn't released a GH. 19 Top 40 hits in a chart career spanning 25(!!) years... I guess the band must be against releasing compilation albums. It would be interesting to see if they included the pre Fergie singles, I know they didn't do too well but it'd be nice to see them get a bit more exposure. Wonder if they'd also have a second disk with their solo material on. I'd also like to see a GH for RHCP, and possibly the Killers/Brandon.
July 25, 201212 yr looking at the list that I found in the other thread I might not be able to fill a cd with Rihanna songs that I like. 1 Pon De Replay 2 SOS 3 Unfaithful 4 Umbrella 5 Shut Up And Drive 6 Hate That I Love You (ft Ne-Yo) 7 Take A Bow 8 Disturbia 9 Rehab 10 Live Your Life (ft TI) 11 Russian Roulette 12 Rude Boy 13 Run This Town (ft Jay-Z, Kanye West) 14 Te Amo 15 Love The Way You Lie (ft Eminem) 16 Only Girl (In The World) 17 What's My Name (ft Drake) 18 Who's That Chick (ft David Guetta) 19 S&M 20 California King Bed 21 Cheers (Drink To That) 22 Fly (ft Nicki Minaj) 23 We Found Love (ft Calvin Harris)

They're 4th will be out in the Autumn. Normaly GH albums are the last album within an artists contract with the record label so they'll have a 4 album contract plus a GH Hits album at the end, but may vary from label to label.
July 25, 201212 yr Author OK maybe I shouldn't have called it "Singles Compilations" rather than "Greatest Hits" but you get the idea! Some more good suggestions, I'd overlooked Beyonce, she definitely has enough material. I think some of the suggestions are a bit premature though - if we go by number of UK Top 40 hits for example, Kelly Clarkson is on 13, Maroon 5 on 11, The Killers/Brandon on 12 - I think all of those artists need a few more hits under their belt before they can release a singles compilation. I think having 20 hits is an ideal number, of which you pick the 15/16 biggest of those, plus a couple of new tracks.
July 25, 201212 yr RHCP have already released a greatest hits called 'Greatest Hits' or do you mean an updated one? I stated earlier in the thread, it would be good to get a singles collection from RHCP as the 2003 GH album was missing quite a few good tracks from them.

I agree completely on the record contract issue. Even if they don't release one after the 4 albums, somewhere down the line they will abuse the chance to release one. I remember both Radiohead and Foo Fighters objecting their greatest hits being released. I think all greatest hits (in all it's varied forms) should have a second cd with all the music videos. Why do record labels leave out potentially massive hits from the album? Maybe they should release different compilation albums based on what hits did well in each country.

July 25, 201212 yr Author Why do record labels leave out potentially massive hits from the album? Maybe they should release different compilation albums based on what hits did well in each country. Isn't that what they did with Michael Jackson's King of Pop, where the track listing was different in different countries? Although I think that was based on fans' votes rather than what hits did well in each country. I'd love it if you could buy personalised Greatest Hits. I know that's easy to do with mp3's, but it would be awesome if you could buy an official CD with a personalised track list. Obviously that's not very cost effective to produce, but you never know, some people might pay good money for one! Edited July 25, 201212 yr by mango7

No it wouldn't. If a GH album from Coldplay contained their 18 biggest hits then it's a perfectly valid statement and title.
July 25, 201212 yr Coldplay's greatest hits, when they do eventually decide to release it, will be epic...I think Nerina Pallot should bring out a best of. She's got more than enough material - amazing material I should add - to bring one out.
July 25, 201212 yr The world doesn't need ot but a singles set from Tori Amos would be welcome in my house. I dont think her Tales of a Librarian is a good introduction to non fans.
July 25, 201212 yr As has been said, I think Muse could do one right about now, it would be great and they have more than enough material to do so. I would of course love a Coldplay greatest hits, but I think they can afford to wait another album and they showed no signs of slowing down for this era. That and I think six or seven albums worth of single material would make a better greatest hits. Edited July 25, 201212 yr by C.W
July 25, 201212 yr I think that "single collections" should be in chronological order, but "greatest hits " should be in order of how the singles sound or what ever other reason.
July 25, 201212 yr Kanye West could do one easy be v v good 2. Rihanna would kill it.prob be a double album or in 2 volumes. Kings Of Leon. The Killers. Katy Perry.
July 25, 201212 yr I think Nerina Pallot should bring out a best of. She's got more than enough material - amazing material I should add - to bring one out. I agree about Nerina Pallot, though it could hardly be named 'Greatest Hits', as hers would fit on a CD single... :P
