No.

If it was just hype it wouldn't still be #4 on US itunes after 3 weeks.

It's still #4 because more people know about the song now. Thanks to the hype.

Well I get what you are saying. But obviously the songs quality is appealing to the general public, or it would not be in the top 5 still. Especially since there has been ZERO promotion since the video was released.

People don't buy songs off of hype. They check things out because of hype.

I'm sure it's a mixture of things that change from Country to Country.

For example, in the US, Britney is kindah liked, and whilst no-one watched X Factor, she seemingly still maintains a presence on US radio, rather than will who flopped multiple times, but over here, I feel it's the other way round, that Will's name on the record (mixed with Britney) really sells the song. And it's taylor made for a club, which any hit song needs to be nowadays.

Why do people think no one watched the x factor US? It was renewed so enough people watched it. It just didn't match The Voice's success.

Over 88,000 sales this week. Takes the total sales to over 150k in just two weeks!

Edit. Over 160k. Yep think its already sold more than Hold It Against Me!

SINGLES

With two such big sellers at the top of the chart, Scream & Shout slips 2-3 for Will.I.Am feat. Britney Spears despite increasing its sales by 18.24% week-on-week to a hefty 88,400. That would have been enough for it to top the chart in 24 of 50 previous 2012 chart weeks and is the 14th highest number three sale in the 21st century.

Overall singles sales are up 2.27% week-on-week to 3,813,716 - 5.26% below same week 2011 sales of 4,025,393.

4 Rihanna/Mikky Ekko 49,586

5 Bruno Mars 46,113 (352,746)

They were so far ahead of the rest of the top 5 (shame they were so far behind from number 2 though) but I do hope they can push 100k this week with "the gift card effect". Number 1 will be theres at some point I reckon, just not sure when...

14th highest sale for a number 3 hit in the 21st Century :D

OVER 110k THIS WEEK :w00t:

However, it’s not just James Arthur who has enjoyed impressive sales this week; the Top 3 singles – Will.I.Am FT Britney Spears’ Scream & Shout (Number 2) and Psy’s Gangnam Style (3) – have each sold over 110,000 copies, while the combined Official Singles Chart Top 10 have racked up over 900,000 sales between them.
Surely number 1 is certain next week? They are 0.97 on live pop bars, combined!
1 James Arthur 183,660 (896,990)

2 Will.i.am/Britney Spears 115,896 (279,061)

3 PSY 111,744 (877,655)

:D Biggest sales week for 'Scream & Shout', yet! (I think it'll be it's peak sales wise - but it'll get another 2 or 3 weeks over 80k :D) Britney's biggest selling single in AGES! <3

It's now #1 on iTunes combined.

I imagine James' single will decrease substantially over the next few days...

Awesome! Coming for that #1, ya'll.

Why is US radio refusing to play this?

WILL.I.AM & BRITNEY SPEARS – Scream And Shout: 50.630 (+ 0.001)

Why is US radio refusing to play this?

The fact it didn't get a negative update right now is good. It will start getting big updates again in about 2 days. For some reason America just loves to rape hit songs from earlier in the year... in a way to celebrate the past years music around New Years.

No.1 on UK i-Tunes now!!!
