Oh well, shows how much we know about the tastes of the UK record buying public.

Even non-Robbie fans at my work love Candy. I've worked out it's only the Robbie fans who ain't keen....

Great news anyway. Hopefully this will give the album a sales boost :cheer:

Robbie Williams scores first No.1 single since 2004 with 'Candy'

http://i45.tinypic.com/20huc03.jpg

The track is the Take That star's first chart topper since 2004's 'Radio', and becomes his seventh solo number one.

It is his 14th number one overall including tracks with Take That, equalling bandmate Gary Barlow's record. His tally is 16 if including charity records by Band Aid 20 and Helping Haiti.

'Candy' sold 137,000 copies in its first week on sale, becoming the third fastest-selling track of the year so far.

"Number one, yeah! So chuffed, really, really happy that 'Candy' reached the top spot," Williams told The Official Charts Company. "Good work Team Williams and thanks to everyone who got it there. I'm so excited about this album and this is a great start."

Labrinth and Emeli Sandé fall one place to two with 'Beneath Your Beautiful', but still shifted just under 103,000 copies in its second week on the chart.

Wiley enters at three with 'Can You Hear Me (Ayayaya)', his second top three hit in three months following number one 'Heatwave'.

Swedish House Mafia drop two to four with former number one 'Don't You Worry Child', while Adele climbs back up two to five with 'Skyfall'.

Calvin Harris and Florence Welch drop three to six 'Sweet Nothing', while Psy falls two to seven with 'Gangnam Style'.

Rihanna dips four places to eight with 'Diamonds', with Maroon 5 falling one to nine with 'One More Night'. Taylor Swift also falls one place to complete the Top 10 with 'We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together'.

The Lumineers climb a further 11 places to 12 with 'Hey Ho', following its use on a television advert. Fun. re-enter the chart at 13 with their massive seller 'We Are Young', after they performed it on The X Factor last weekend.

Paloma Faith climbs back up nine places to 20 with her of INXS's 'Never Tear Us Apart' after performing it on Strictly Come Dancing. Fun. also climb 15 spots to 23 with 'Some Nights'.

Calvin Harris and Tinie Tempah score a new entry at 25 with 'Drinking from the Bottle'. Ben Howard lands at 32 with 'Burgh Island'.

Robbie Williams returns to number one spot

BBC News

Robbie Williams is celebrating his first solo UK number one for eight years, after Candy topped the official singles chart.

Some 137,000 copies of Candy were sold this week, according to the Official Charts Company - the fastest-selling single by a male artist this year.

It marks the 14th number one for Williams, including his years with Take That, and his seventh solo number one.

It draws him level with bandmate Gary Barlow, who co-wrote the current hit.

Williams, 38, said he was "chuffed" to have reached "the top spot".

"Good work Team Williams and thanks to everyone who got it there," he told the OfficialCharts.com.

"I'm so excited about this album and this is a great start."

The new album, Take The Crown, is released on Monday.

Lukewarm response

Following his departure from Take That in the mid-1990s, Williams went on to sell 60 million solo albums and win 17 Brit Awards.

But his two most recent solo albums received a lukewarm critical response and failed to match up to the extraordinary commercial success of his earlier work.

The star re-joined Take That in 2010, as the group released their first new music together for 15 years, touring with them on their record-breaking Progress UK stadium tour last year.

Emeli Sande, who picked up three Mobos at the weekend, slipped back into second place in the singles chart with Beneath Your Beautiful, while Adele's James Bond theme tune Skyfall made the top five.

Williams' contemporary, Kylie Minogue, failed to take the number one spot in the album chart, with her album The Abbey Road Sessions settling for second place behind DJ and songwriter Calvin Harris, with 18 Months.

Well done to Robbie - great to see him back at #1 after so long. I'm no fan of Candy but i'm delighted for it as you can really tell how much it means to him this time around and it's good to see how many non-Rob fans online are pleased for him. The sales are huge and it's still #1 on Itues. I can't see a second week at #1 but it will certainly sell very well this week, especially with the album version added on.

The album should have no problem netting him his 10th #1 album - putting him ahead of Michael Jackson, Abba, Queen and Bruce Springsteen and tied with U2 in the position of 4th most #1 albums in UK history.

Are JLS :arrr: releasing their album this week?

Yep but they are nowhere as big as they were in 2009.

I will be amazed if Rob doesn't get to #1. I am expecting over 200K first week sales. RKTVS did nearl 240K first week and has sold aroud 1M copies in the UK but that was in 2009 so if TTC can manage that in todays climate it will be a huge success.

Yeah, Top-3 is real and that's great. Maybe another 80,000 copies will be added and then he will on way to have the best singles sales since Somethin' Stupud in UK.

It had 365.000. Followers are Feel (250.500), You Know Me (245.000). Bodies (240.100).

So everything is great right now =)

By the way, I'm trying to follow for his sales on my site. Could you help me if I wrong somewhere in tables?

I think those are correct.

I've been asking over in the Chart Forum if anyone has both UK and Worldwide up to date sales figures for Robbie's albums.

I got the UK ones from Gezza but last available are only up to about 2009. And no-one seems to have the Worldwide ones.

Here's what Gezza told me
