Hmm - so this Lucy person - I've not heard the song, and I don't watch X Factor - but - whilst it's true without the show she wouldn't have the exposure to get a hit, it seems a bit horrible to potential ruin her one chance at a big hit by pulling it just because she is tied into a TV series - did they not think to pull it last week in any case - to avoid all this? It just seems really poorly managed. If this was a BBC show and the BBC wanted the song/ album pulled they would be accused of all sorts - probably of ruining her career - but because its ITV/Syco it's allowed to happen.

Yeah, I don't know what to think of this. But I'm pretty sure she'll get a record deal after this, one way or another.

If anything I'd say the BBC did it the opposite way round (talking about The Voice here) where they released studio recordings of the contestants tracks about 2 weeks after the final when all the hype had fizzled out completely. The way they handled the winners' single was atrocious too.

Definitely. They couldn't give it any promotion could they? And it completely flopped. Although Bo Bruce's previous EP was available during the show. Tyler's album may have been available too. But I do think it's a bit harsh on Lucy, although I'm pretty sure it'll get re-added when she gets eliminated from the competition.

Scandal!

They'll have to take Lucy's song down now or else she'll be DQ'd from the compettion. It's the rules! It's also unfair to Little Mix, of course.

The irony being will anyone buy Lucy's album once she's been eliminated from the competition? It's pure catch 22 and someone has to lose this battle. As long as record companies are involved, they will win everytime. It's a wonder Lucy's album even sold those 300 copies since its release last October. I guess it was just Facebook friends who bought the album. How would anyone have known the album existed 2 months ago?

Is it? What are the rules these days? I know people already with management are allowed to enter this time. And I don't see why it's unfair to Little Mix - they're heading to #1 officially?

Oh indeed, I'm sure they'd much rather fackin 'ave Bom Bom at #2 than Lucy.

I checked a few of her videos online, and apparently she did tiny bits of promo, like a live session for BBC The Beat radio show.

She's freaking cool anyway  Gutted they took the song off. :(

I don't watch the X Factor, and so I haven't heard the song in question, but I am now aware of it charting based on downloads since Saturday.

However, it is a very sad indictment of music reality television, and the music industry/charts in general, if a song that people want to buy is pulled and is no longer available.

And record companies wonder why consumers are becoming disillusioned and their revenue streams are no longer as profitable as they once were.

its just cos shes on a smaller label, same way as lots of bands cant get radio1 airplay until the big labels pick them up,until then theyll always be stuck on the upfront lists!!

 5. Harder Than You Think - Public Enemy

There's quite a big gap to #4 but if this gets used at the opening ceremony of the Paralympics it could still climb further. Definitely should get Public Enemy a long-delayed first top 10 hit though!

'One Day Like This' could re-climb a bit this week, currently #13.

Edited by Bré

The opening ceremony's tomorrow, isn't it? Who's playing it? I heard coldplay are which would be great, wondering if once the games start the public enemy ad will be played less and it could fall.....great to see this so high, could be top 5 for the next few weeks!!
Those 2 are taking their time moving up the chart, thought they could have made the top 10, still time i suppose"!

They fall over the weekend as expected then climb throughout the week.

Some Nights needs to get a move on now though!

Worries me when singles continually do that though, like skrillex bangarang it may mean a mediocre chart peak. i think both should go top 15 at least as airplay begins to peak in the next 2 weeks!!
Well the album version of Little talks is #80, so maybe it's higher combined

Some Nights is already #11 on the airplay chart...
