I've listened to the previews, sounding pretty good so far with the exception of just a few.

Ones that I really like are:

Into the silence (sounding a bit U2 ish  anyone else think so?)

Be a boy

Gospel

Different – (Similar to another Robbie song  )

Hunting for You

Reverse

One of Robbie's new songs already being used for a car advert....

Ha! I texted Sparkle my 'first listen' favourites a couple of nights ago. And I can't remember what they were. Although I think the 'Into the Silence' one might have been my fav too. I'll head off and re-listen right now. Back in a wee while with my list. :w00t:

Here are my first impressions:-

Be a Boy - Yeah, has potential. Could be a soaring anthem. Think I will like this.

Gospel - I think I like this too. Quite quirky.

Candy - a classic. Lyrics are so deep. :teresa: ( Very foot tappable mind :P )

Different - does nothing for me. :(

Sh*t on the radio - err, a bit sh*t. Don't like this.

All that I want - not keen. Cr*p lyrics.

Hunting for you - nope. I'm unmoved.

Into the Silence - Yip, this I do like. A lot. :cheer: Yes, it is very U2. A bit 'So Cruel'.

Hey Wow,Yeah, Yeah- Hmmm. Would make great car advert music. Oh wait.... :P Could be a grower.

Not Like the Others - I really like this. Great hook. :w00t:

Losers - Song is ok but he is oversinging big time. Hurts my ears a bit. The woman he is duetting with seems to have a deeper voice than him...

Reverse - Like this too. I think

Eight Letters - awwww. It's very stripped back isn't it. Sweet. And it was always his song I guess. Nice to hear him singing it.

So, potentially, great start, great finish, rubbish middle. :P

It's far too early to tell though. Some songs you think are potentially brilliant from a one minute snippet don't go anywhere and you are left feeling a bit 'meh' when you hear the full version. Others that don't impress you end up being brilliant and the one minute snippet just happens to be the boring bit

I'm not overly astounded but I'm sufficiently curious. So all is good. :cheer:

Not like the others............ naughty lyrics

Really? :o :o :o

Excellent! **OFF TO CHECK**

Yip!!!!

Guess this won't be a single then... :kink: :kink: :kink: :kink: :kink: :kink:

Really amazing that one of the songs is already being used on an advert. Great publicity though. Maybe Universal are better at promotion after all ;)
 Nope, we won't be hearing that on the radio.

Pity. I love it. And it's very radio friendly. Except for the words.

The song sounds good and fitting for a car advert.

I really didn't think much of it when I listened to him singing it live on youtube during the last gigs he did.

Yes, but it's not a surprise.

Actually they (Rob and Gary) did together only 2 songs for Take The Crown: Candy and Different.

Well, you have asked about snippets...I think it's too early to judge it. But I want to say something really good about at least one song - Into The Silence. It's instant hit for me.

Just spied your post Better Man. I didn't realise that. I thought Rob and Gaz had co-written the whole album. So is Gaz producing rather than majorly writing?

And I agree about Into the Silence. Funny that from a one minute clip all 3 of us who have passed comment really like the same song.

You know, it wasn't surprise with Into The Silence, it's really similiar to U2 =)) Agree with you and Sparkle.

BTW, Rob has said in interview on Australian radio 2 days ago, that second single will be Different and the third one is Gospel (his fave song on album).

Well, yes, Rob and Gary did only 2 songs together for this album.

Producer of Take The Crown is Jacknife Lee, he did the same work for REM, U2 (Bomb 2004), Snow Patrol, Bloc Party...Ok you can check him yourself:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacknife_Lee

Also he was co-writer of 2 songs: Different (yes and Gary too) and Hunting For You.

But the main co-writers were guys from Australian band Undercolours. Rob sang with them last year in a little LA's club but actually his brother in-law was a person who intoduced them to Robbie and Williams had decided to work with them...they made this album in 10 days

But there is one really great thing. Do you remember Boots Ottestad? Come Undone, Berliner Star and Wimmin' were his works...

Aaaannnndddd. Hey Wow Yeah Yeah was co-written by him =)

Well, seems you haven't last Music Week edition ;)

It's really great interview and there are so many new facts...

I've speed read it. Really interesting stuff. Not sure if you can post that link. Better remove it just in case

So he never listens to any of his old albums but he did recently listen to RKTVS and thought it was good

It was indeed a great interview. Thanks so much for posting.

Quite annoyed that Different is being touted as second single. On the evidence of the snippet it seems quite bland

Anyway, I'd better get some sleep.

Night

x

Yeah, funny sometines )

Don't forget to catch a mini-interview with CEO from Universal there too. I think Rob's contract was signed only for one album+Tour but it depends on sales. There was info something like that last year but it wasn't clear. Too confidential agreement ))

night too, see you!

Okay, I guess there isn't a better way in "breaking the silence" but to comment new Robbie album. ^_^ So, this is an opinion based on previews only (minus Candy, obviously)...

Be a Boy - Does nothing to me... Just ok, but still way better than Sh** on the Radio and Hey Bla Bla Blah, of course...

Gospel - It's good one. And it actually may work nice as 2nd single. It'd be much better choice for that purpose than Different.

Candy - Song for a kindergarten. Sure, it can be catchy and it's cool to catch it on a radio, but that's not Robbie I like.

Different - I totally agree with Sparkle at this one, it's reminds me on Robbie's song, but I can't figure out which one...

Sh** on the Radio - Useless sh**.

All That I Want - Slightly better than Be a Boy...

Hunting For You - Quite good tune, want to hear the rest...

Into the Silence - Now, that was the love at first reading of the song title. Seriously, the title sounded like something I'd like for sure. Also, it was love at first listen. I agree with Sperkle again, this have U2 written all over it, which is really great thing. He MUST sing this live, MUST! Should be a single definitely, but I doubt he'll pick out that move.

Hey Wow Yeah Yeah - Hey, what?  :puke2: Totally a song not for a b-side (because Robbie's b-sides are great), but for a f-side (which doesn't exist, and so should this song)

Not Like the Others - Read Be a Boy description...

Losers - If it were a Robbie's song, I'd say good, but I don't like covers, there's not enough effort in this, so I think I'll pass it most of the time.

Reverse - Have that potential that it can be very listenable on my speakers. ^_^

Eight Letters - Seems like Robbie's version is more minimalistic (only piano there, right?), and that fact I don't like in this case.

Overall, at first listening all songs seemed the same (of course except that beautiful Into the Silence), but now I'm starting to see a difference more. Though, this album already sounds overproduced, which most artists do nowadays and it can be a bit annoying. He didn't do that in Into the Silence and song is great right away.
