November 18, 201212 yr Wonder if Flo Rida is gonna turn up tonight considering Kertmit couldn't last year? Hope the performance is something special and different, no muppets though please Olly, can't believe that was actually his idea!
November 18, 201212 yr Author No Flo Rida from the sounds of things - I'm told there are stairs involved though which doesn't bode well given his previous track record with stairs... Oh and he's got his full live band with him as well!
November 18, 201212 yr Yeah Marco is getting excited on twitter, I would definitely have steered clear of stairs but he did say they were part of his performance unfortunately! Maybe he's just gonna show what he's like on tour tonight to try and help sell tickets, we'll see...
November 18, 201212 yr Congratulations to him for his 4th #1, such a great performer and a nice guy :) Edited November 18, 201212 yr by Carlos V
November 19, 201212 yr Author Still number 1 on iTunes this morning...the reaction to the performance on my Twitter feed was incredible...not just from girls but from guys too! Seems like everyone loves the Murs!
November 19, 201212 yr Proud of the lad, he's Mr Mainstream now. I do wish more lads liked him like they used to Robbie Williams, hopefully his new album will make him more credible.
November 19, 201212 yr I think Olly has definitely appealed to guys just as much as the girls. He seems to be one of the "cool" and credible pop artists. I think many guys can relate to him!
November 20, 201212 yr Author Nail on the head there Jonjo! I mean even putting aside that he's from the same area of Essex I'm from I relate to him so much. All the times I've met him up to now he's remembered me every single time and it's a mark of how grounded and genuine he is. I'm glad more people are starting to see what I've seen in him for ages - a nice, hard working talented geez who doesn't take himself too seriously and makes brilliant pop music! November 20, 201212 yr I'm a lad and I really relate to him too. But the fact of the matter is that it's not 'cool' to like his music for lads which is a shame. His gigs are wall to wall fanny, not many lads. But then you see him performing at V festival and half the people singing along are male so there is a secret straight male appreciation out there! With Robbie Williams lads would be open about being a fan, wish it was the same for Olly.
November 20, 201212 yr Credibility is about how an artist is perceived within the industry. Although Olly is a hard worker there's also no doubting he's had things very easy. He needs to make a choice. It's no good moaning about his lack of credibility yet tying himself tightly to the X Factor machinery, who without he'd have smaller album sales. As for the Brits he should be grateful he's had a performance slot while others, with bigger sales at the same stage in their career and still going strong, are overlooked. November 20, 201212 yr Author If you're talking about that Daily Star interview that was published yesterday what he said was slightly taken out of context. He just said he didn't know why some other artists - e.g the likes of Dappy and Example - bashed him purely because of his roots on the show and where he came from. He's definitely not had it 'easy' by any stretch of the imagination. You have to bear in mind not everyone that gets into the industry has all the connections or knows how to go about getting a record deal, and whatever anyone says about the show it's a good crash course at the very least. Yes he first came to attention on 'The X Factor' but that's irrelevant as to how a good pop artist (which he is) is percieved, regardless of whether or not they came from the show. It's about what you do after the show that matters and what you do to make a career basically and how hard you're prepared to work, and he works incredibly hard. He went straight out and did all club gigs around the UK after he came second, met all the fans he'd obtained from appearing on the show, and it was off of that that Epic approached him for a record deal. He's been so busy this year balancing his commitments back here with stuff abroad like the One Direction tour in the US and his success in Europe and Germany and he puts in the hours. Take for example this weekend just gone. He did rehearsals on Thursday for his 'Troublemaker' performance along with a day of interviews. He was then in Sweden on their X Factor performing on Friday. Then he flew back to UK on Saturday to do Xtra Factor with Caroline Flack, then he performed 'Troublemaker' and did Xtra Factor again on Sunday. If you go on a show like X Factor then it really is what you make of it afterwards and if no one notices you came or went it's probably because they haven't used the exposure to their advantage or put in the hours. You can have the voice of your Mariahs or Whitneys but if you don't put in the effort then nothing will come of it. That's why Girls Aloud and Will Young are still here 10 years later, because like Olly they've worked incredibly hard too after they came from Popstars: The Rivals and Pop Idol respectively. Obviously it's anyone's guess what will happen to Olly in next year, let alone the next 10. I get the feeling that this will probably the last year he does Xtra Factor because he wants to focus more on his music. But I'm quietly confident that with his work ethic he'll continue to prove everybody wrong. His second album outsold his first and I feel 'Right Place Right Time' will do even better. November 20, 201212 yr I get the feeling that this will probably the last year he does Xtra Factor because he wants to focus more on his music Guess we'll have to wait and see. We had the will he won't he saga this year along with the other judges. I'm sure he'll be mindful of the fortunes of Cheryl Cole once she left the show. As I said earlier I can't fault his work ethic. He certainly doesn't give his fans the opportunity to miss him. :)

I'm sure he'll be mindful of the fortunes of Cheryl Cole once she left the show. As I said earlier I can't fault his work ethic. He certainly doesn't give his fans the opportunity to miss him. :) Off topic but I think Cheryl's still doing well out of all the girls solo wise. 'Call My Name' was a big number 1 and she's just had a massive arena tour of her own and her book's been very successful. That's pretty good fortune to me! And anyone who's anyone will tell you that the money really lies for the artist in touring anyway so it's not like she'll be taken to a back room and shot in the head anytime soon. Olly was pretty much all over the place TV promo wise even before he started on 'The Xtra Factor' and he has a great team behind him. I know we had the 'Will he won't he' saga last year but that's cause him and Caroline are contracted for a year, as are the judges. No one apart from Dermot knows if they're coming back for definite until they've signed on the dotted line. He made Xtra Factor work again this year despite his touring and overseas commitments so who knows?
November 20, 201212 yr Author Back on topic - midweeks are currently showing it at #1 with 60,000 copies apparently sold already. Amazing!
November 20, 201212 yr Olly has definitely worked hard to get to where he is today. He's only doing what most other artists would do if they were in the same position. He's taking advantage of everything he's given and why wouldn't he? At least he's not taking them for granted and looks like he genuinely appreciates every bit of success he's given and always manages to get promotional slots and other various bits and pieces for his fans and not just the odd performance here and then and expecting it to chart on name alone or whatever. I believe he has a long career ahead of him and fairplay, he deserves too.

November 20, 201212 yr I mean there's no denying his work ethic. But his role on The Xtra Factor has helped him maintain success.
November 20, 201212 yr Yeah sure it has but that's work too, he's not a presenter and he has to work hard on that and fit it into his hectic schedule. When he finished X Factor he performed in most of the towns and cities in the UK before releasing PDLMG just like any fledgling pop act would. He doesn't use his personal life to get into the papers or slag anyone off to raise his profile. He goes to bed early on a work night and he puts research into tv appearances, so he's very professional and deserving of his success.
November 21, 201212 yr I mean there's no denying his work ethic. But his role on The Xtra Factor has helped him maintain success. It's definitely helped, but how much? 10k extra? The Xtra Factor doesn't get THAT many viewers. It probably gets a lot for ITV2, but the fact that his 2nd album sold about the same as the first album (which he did before Xtra Factor), shows that he has a very loyal fanbase. No doubt it's helping though, but I don't see why people use stuff like this as negativity? He's only doing what any other person would do if they got asked the same thing and like I said, is it even actually helping him THAT much? I doubt it...
