Hahaha, I’m with you FTF. I forget about it’s existence at times. Though to be fair I’m sure Steps themselves do too.
The album isn't terrible but it is of much lower quality than what we are used to from a Steps album.

It’s dull, not very Christmas imo and it’s missing the ‘Steps touch’.

I do want to buy the album at one point, just for adding it to my Steps collection.

It does miss the Steps touch, although i think that was deliberate at the time but if they were doing it now it would be very different.

Agree with all of this.

I think the 7th Heaven remix of Light Up The World is the closest a song gets to sounding like it’s got that ‘Steps touch’.

Yes, the 7th heaven remix does help the song alot, a bit more on those lines and the album could have been a better listen.

Ah yes, the album tracks could’ve benefited from a good remix or two.

Huge shame steps didnt have some sort of established christmas hit back in the day that would now gain from streaming and be back in charts annually like so many others.

They didn't opt for the best approach when recording this album.

It had so much more potential if they selected different songs.

They made terrible choices, i think the big problem was they were trying not to be Steps in the they were known for but ended up missing the ball completely. They should have went for full on Steps and camped it up to the very last and thrown in 2 ballads.

It's a weird album in that the classy/mature vibe of it is very far removed from the songs and imagery they were so well known for. I can't help but feel like they were trying to make some sort of point with this album? Like they wanted to show people that they had evolved from the sound they were known for. They definitely misjudged the market by trying to appeal to people who just would not be interested in adult contemporary music from Steps, while it clearly alienated their core fanbase.

Maybe Light Up the World is the album that the group needed to make... to get it out of their system, and to make them realise that it wasn't what people wanted. In the 4 years after that album they must have all come to the conclusion that they should embrace what Steps is all about, and the result of that was Tears on the Dancefloor!

This! I’m happy it didn’t end with this album. Can you imagine if they would’ve stopped after this release…:lulu:

Ya it would have been awful last release from them and been honest when I heard the album and how it performed I never in a million years thought there was such great albums to come.

Pretty much agree with all of this.
