Are you someone who *must* buy new releases ASAP, or are you prepared to wait until Sunday to maximise their chart position?

If it's one of my favourite artists, then straight away! I bought Adele a few minutes after she went on sale, and Lady Gaga's last year.

I must admit I'm not overly concerned about it in relation to the chart positions. I'd rather have it as soon as possible, rather than wait.

I guess it would depend on the time of week somewhat - obviously a Monday release wouldn't put you at as big a disadvantage as a Fri/Sat one.

When you illegally download something is entirely irrelevant to this topic.
It's the sales that matter in the long-run and my one sale probably would have zero effect on the chart position so personally I'd buy straight away if I like the song, no point in waiting.
I always buy as soon as the song I want is available, like Jáhq said, one sale won't affect the chart position. And if they care so much about getting the best chart position, they shouldn't be releasing midweek.

Fair enough - though if 10,000 people thought their 1 sale wouldn't affect its chart position, they'd probably be wrong... :P

As soon as I see it on sale I will purchase. Chart positions really do mean nothing to me, especially as often the stuff I buy doesn't make the Top 40 (or does eventually, but only about 8 months later when it's used on BBC promo for London 2012 - see: M83).

I usually just buy tracks when they're released (within a week of its release) or when they've made quite a bit of impact and climbed high up on iTunes.

However, I did like seeing Gotye climbing up the charts before hitting the #1 spot. I bought 'STIUTK' during the week when it climbed 36-21 and so to see the track no. 1 three weeks later was a real :D moment for me. Same with 'Titanium' only I bought that in the week when it was heading for no. 1 as it was 59p, and it provided the UK charts with one more excellent chart topper ('Alone Again' really wouldn't have been a memorable chart topper imo had it got there - sowwy Alyssa Reid fans :( )
