October 15, 201212 yr Title says it all really I think I read somewhere it has to do with getting the stock to the stores, but some say it's because sales for the week are released on Monday. Both reasons seem redundant now anyway.
October 15, 201212 yr Yep, as Britster says, it's a historical thing with the chart week running 00:01 Monday to midnight Sunday (with charts published the following Thursday) there rather than from 00:01 Sunday to midnight Saturday like it is here. Though there is something quite satisfying about getting an album 1 day before the US - or at least, it used to be, before 2001 when everyone had already illegally downloaded it anyway. :(
October 15, 201212 yr The funny thing with that is the sales for Week1 are counted and published on the Thursday of Week 2 on Billboard, with a note that says "Hot 100 for the week ending Week 3".

October 16, 201212 yr You could also ask why albums in the UK are released on a Monday instead of a Sunday. Especially in the digital age, it doesn't make a lot of sense not to release on the Sunday now. Singles switched to Sundays, so why haven't the albums...
