October 27, 201212 yr Of course you haven't. If it's not on your gigantic spreadsheet it doesn't exist in vidcapperworld. Hey, that was uncalled for - I hope you didn't intend it seriously! :o Why on earth *should* I have heard the term? Besides, you don't seem to mind my 'gigantic spreadsheet' when asking me for sales figures... Edited October 27, 201212 yr by vidcapper
October 27, 201212 yr Hey, that was uncalled for! :o Why on earth *should* I have heard the term? Besides, you don't seem to mind my 'gigantic spreadsheet' when asking me for sales figures... You're right, I don't on the rare occasion I actually ask for anything. I just find it odd that someone who devotes so much of their time to pop music hasn't come across the name of the upcoming album by one of the biggest pop stars in the world.
October 27, 201212 yr You're right, I don't on the rare occasion I actually ask for anything. I just find it odd that someone who devotes so much of their time to pop music hasn't come across the name of the upcoming album by one of the biggest pop stars in the world. Generally speaking, unless it's an artist I'm likely to buy an album of, I won't know the title in advance. That's because I'm more interesed in the statistical aspects of the charts, than the musical. In the above case, I genuinely didn't know 'Artpop' was the name of Lady Gaga's forthcoming album - I bought Fame, but didn't like anything from 'Born This Way', so paid little attention to her next album.
October 27, 201212 yr I did get it right - that's what I *said*. :) The title is 'ARTPOP', not 'Artpop'.
October 27, 201212 yr The title is 'ARTPOP', not 'Artpop'. You're quibbling over capital letters?
October 28, 201212 yr If Rihanna's collaborations didn't count towards her total, then how did Olivia Newton-John make the top 10? The vast majority of Olivia's singles sales will be the two singles with John Travolta and the later number one with ELO, so all collaborations, so should she even be there (not that I actually want to see Olivia relegated just seemed like on rule for one and another for another).

I think, that it's difference between full duets and "Featuring" parts. Olivia & John have 50 % / 50 % vocals, it's not the same thing as for simple "Just Dance" (Colby O'Donis count as featuring artist, but near 80 % vocals is Lady Gaga)
October 28, 201212 yr Yes. It's an acronym. Well why didn't you say so. :) I had a quick surf, but couldn't find what it is short for - does anyone know?

October 28, 201212 yr "Artistic Revolution Through the Potential of Pop" ^_^ She is so pretentious. :puke2:
October 28, 201212 yr Single sales means nothing compared to album sales. Singles are to promote the album... And besides Madonna was selling at the price of £1.99 + 12inch singles £3.99. Rihanna is now selling at the price of £0.59...

Rihanna is now selling at the price of £0.59... Given these are pop stars, single sales matter a lot. And it's not like they're competing in the same market, that was the only way to get hold of a song in the '80s whereas 99p is having to compete against free downloading.

And it's not like they're competing in the same market, that was the only way to get hold of a song in the '80s whereas 99p is having to compete against free downloading. Well not quite, in the 80s/90s there was a lot of taping off the radio, or directly from mates Vinyl versions, and by the 90s/00s burning CD's had come in already.....and yes I do feel VERY OLD typing that. I would say yes there are many factors involved and the level playing field arguement has some merit, but the biggest difference (as has been pointed out already) is that every "track" downloaded counted as a singles sale from 2004 on whereas before a single had to be a single so that will affect these tallies. As has already been noted this will also affect album sales conversely as we've seen ( I don't know how many times I bought an album in the 80s/90s/ early 00s for just 1 song) and that wouldn't happen now.
