You must have misread it. The theory is that Han And Leia both think their daughter is long dead at the hands of their son. Ben sends Rey to Jakku because at that point he wasn't 'evil' enough to kill her.

I'm sure they would have mentioned it a loss still. I just can't buy the theory.

I'm 100% sure she is Luke's daughter. It wouldn't surprise me if she was a secret child - Kylo Ren doesn't even know Luke had a daughter.

It almost definitely IS that, but it'll still be a super boring/anti-climactic result when it is revealed.
In other news, this stands at $740M in the US as of today, it will officially pass Avatar as the biggest movie of all time in the US tomorrow. It will therefore have taken 18 days versus over 100 for Avatar. Insane.

Why do people put the spoiler tag on mentioning Luke's appearance in the movie? Wasn't Mark Hamill's (as well as Harrison's and Carrie's) decision to reprise his role confirmed months prior?

Anyway, those figures for Star Wars are in a way... stellar. :magic:

Yeah the biggest surprise was how little he was in it tbh!

Han and Leia believe their daughter to be dead at the hands of their son... It would also explain the lack of emotional reaction from Leia and Han upon seeing her again.

I would think that if you thought your daughter was dead but then she was found alive, there would be anything BUT a lack of emotional reaction.

Firmly in the "Luke, I am your daughter" camp.

Because nobody would have thought to have given her a different name would they? As far as they are concerned it's just some girl.

The Luke theory works too, but it's terribly done and utterly lazy if true. The Han/Leia theory works better in every way if you actually think about it for a bit.

An the Obi Wan theory is just awful.

The Luke theory is obvious, but it just fits, and is much better. As lazy as it may be it makes FAR more sense. Luke was the central character of the original series, and it would be silly is Rey is not his daughter and

judging from the leaked script, I think this all but confirms that she is his daughter.

The Han & Leia theory would make them the worst parents in the world. I can't see Kylo Ren being clever enough as a teenage boy, to send his sister to another planet without anyone knowing.

If she was Han and Leia's and they thought her dead, they'd still make an indirect reference to their loss which they don't.

Also, having spent the entire film searching for him, why would Leia send Rey to find Luke rather than go herself? Because she rocked up with Jeci powers and everyone agrees that she's super cool? No, there must be a connection with Luke...

Whilst Luke is the central character of the original trilogy the whole saga centres on the Skywalker's and whatever parentage she has it would still fit.

As for the leaked script, there's plenty in there that is ambiguous, including the ending. It still fits either way. In fact there's plenty to back up the Han theory. Look at description of how she is left on Jakku -

Unkar Plutt responds, “Quiet, girl!” as the “ship flies towards the desert sun, which is strangely eclipsed, as if being eaten by darkness.”

Eaten by the darkness - a possible metaphor for her brother?

Han and Leia to me show no particular suggestion to be accomplished parents at any point in the original films and such is the lure of the dark side that anyone with a grandparent as powerful and enigmatic Darth Vader is going to feel its pull. Luke also felt the struggle within himself and came close to succumbing against the emperor. Whiny emo kid Kylo Ren as Han says has too much Vader in him. It doesn't make them the worst parents in the world to lose him to the dark side. Not forgetting that Luke is arguably as much to blame for his turning.

Ren may be many things in the movie but he clearly isn't stupid and fleeing with his sister and dropping her of in the care of a total stranger wouldn't be hard. Particularly as we know there was no-one else there as the time.

He also at one point weirdly states they share a feeling together and later tries to get her to join him. Echoes of Luke and Vader?

Firstly, because JJ Abrams likes to misdirect the audience so he can drop a big shock later on. Remember Kahn?

Secondly, Leia's too old to run around too weak in the Force and too busy trying to clean up the mess and fight the First Order, otherwise you could argue why didn't she go to Jakku in the first place? They clearly weren't expecting the Ren to show up or they'd have sent more than just Poe.

Because, it was Rey who was most instrumental in locating Luke, it was Rey who found Luke's lightsabre, it was Rey who defeated Kylo Ren and it is Rey who the Force is calling too. Who better?

If you want a further connection with Luke, he would still be her uncle.

I'm not dead set on her being Han's and not saying the Luke theory is nonsensical. In fact I'm not overly keen on the idea of her being anyone's offspring but I really hope that the answer isn't Luke because if it is then that would seriously concern me. Because if the story they're going with is nothing more than a rewrite of the original trilogy than it'd be tragic. I can take it and enjoy it for one film but it needs to go somewhere new. George Lucas at least got that right.

Abrams may like to misdirect but he is not directing episode 8. I can't see how Luke being the father makes this more a rehash of the original trilogy. If Luke was the main antagonist perhap, but that doesn't look likely.

The overall key plot points of the series has been mapped sometime back. Doesn't matter who's directing it. JJ is collaborating with the story to ensure smooth continuity.

He is in charge after all, so it's ultimately down to him if he wishes to give the audience a misleading impression or not.

I finally got round to seeing this today, part of me still loves the New Hope saga, probably because I grew up to it. Personally it had a good script and I know where its heading, towards the end of the film, I just knew one of the best love characters was going to meet his demise, seems strange though has been credited for the next movie already you just couldn't really survive that. My only nitpick Mark Hamill did not get much air time, I was expecting him to turn up mid way through the film, on the whole a great movie but it didn't grab me instant, as Severin said it felt like a repeat of the New Hope saga.

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" had its world premiere last December. In fact on 18.12.15. In my country, of course, it was released a week later, which angered all the domestic fans of the series! The new film broken many records and its total receipts ranked it in the third position of the most commercial films of all time! To be a honest I was never a lover or a huge fan of this series, although I have seen the six previous films. Despite this, I always thought that the first three movies were clearly higher than those released in the last 17 years, with the worst of them all being "Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace".

The "Force Awakens" is essentially the continuation of the story after the events that unfolded in "Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi". The forces of the Empire and The Resistance are looking to find the last Jedi, Luke Skywalker. The answer where he is hidden, located in a robot called BB-8, which is protected by a pilot of the Resistance. When the latter is caught by the Stormtrooper Army of sinister Kylo Ren, BB-8 will escape and will ended up in the possession of a scavenger named Rey. However, an uncompromising stormtrooper, originally FN-2187, then "Finn", will assist the pilot to escape and his fate will lead him to Rey. From that point on, the plot becomes interesting as all the emblematic figures begin to appear from the first film. The new Star Wars was good but it was not superior to other blockbusters of last year. Something that James Cameron had accomplished with "Avatar" seven years ago. "The Force Awakens" had a pleasant development, stunning visuals effects, loud sound effects and captivating photography. J. J. Abrams not only took over the visual part of the film but he also wrote the script along with Lawrence Kasdan and Michael Arndt. The result of his work was not far away from the original films and for that reason satisfied major proportion of the audience. However, at some times the film was quite childish while the script was very simplistic. I cannot say that I was thrilled with the progress of its plot, but at least it did not tire us at any point although the total length of the film is 135 minutes! Finally, two of the advantages of the new chapter of the series was undoubtedly the participation of old stars / characters such as Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Chewbacca and C-3PO, who would certainly caused tears of joy and emotion to the fans and the addition of the two emerging actors, Daisy Ridley and John Boyega, who brought a fresh air to the series.

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" was the most hyped film of last year! It literally defines the word “hype”. It had a very successful campaign all over the world -The marketing team moved heaven and earth- and it was advertised by the media more than any other movie that aired in 2015. It is the most commercial film in the American Box Office of all time and it made the best opening in most countries worldwide. It received very positive feedback from the audience and critics and it has acquired a very high average score of 8,2 by IMDb users. Personally, I found it just entertaining and nothing more. Alternative title of the movie could be "Star Wars: The Power of Advertising”.
