October 31, 201212 yr Not sure what to think. I love Star Wars and have followed it into the Expanded Universe too. I won't be pissed if these films contradict that material (although I know some fans will be) but I just don't know whet there is left to make a film about. Pretty much everything was wrapped up in the six films we already have.
October 31, 201212 yr I just hope they don't take away my other favourite franchise from me, thus far I've lost my favourite (Star Trek) and 2nd favourite (Bond), I can't lose #3 too :( (I know there's almost universal support for Craig/new Bond - not from me anywhoo). I think the difference with those, especially with Star Trek, was that there was so much on screen already that the only conceivable option to get interest back was a reboot back to the original Kirk/Spock/Enterprise. I didn't think it was a great film by Star Trek's standards but it should be good for the future of the franchise (assuming the next film doesn't flop). With this they might plan a recasting of Han/Luke/Leia to make some quick cash but I'd be disappointed if they did. Ignoring the EU, there are so many more stories they could tell in the future (hopefully without revolving around said Luke turning bad and cloning the Emperor because that just sounds lazy). I'm sure they could use what is already in the EU for a bit of inspiration but hopefully they'll just go ahead with their own story - there must be thousands of scripts for Episode 7 around and ONE has got to be good.

Oh I fully agree with that, but being selfish I want franchises I love to produce films/material I love and none of the post reboot stuff fulfills that. *grumble grumble grumble* I would personally be all up for a cloned palpatine, by far my favourite character from the original movies and it just wouldn't be the same without him. Of course if they bring in some equally menacing old c**t I'll be quite pleased. There really are infinite possibilities.
October 31, 201212 yr Dear god please don't let Michael Bay anywhere near it. I fear James Cameron will end up doing this. James Cameron is tied up with Avatar 2 and 3, Avatar 2 is set for a 2015 release as well.
October 31, 201212 yr Christopher Nolan or David Fincher please. Although my money would be on Spielberg right now. Known fan and best buddies with Lucas
October 31, 201212 yr Spielberg was also who Lucas wanted to direct Return Of The Jedi but couldn't due to issues with the director's guild or something.
October 31, 201212 yr I hope Disney will think about releasing the theatrical original unaltered versions of 5, 6 & 7 with a 16:9 aspect ratio and no mucking about on any scenes. I don't want to see Hayden Christensen.
November 7, 201212 yr Apparently Ford, Hamill and Fisher are in talks over this and 'keen' to be involved
November 12, 201212 yr Hollywood scribe Michael Arndt will write the next instalment in the Star Wars series, Lucasfilm has confirmed. Arndt won an Oscar for best original screenplay for the 2006 comedy Little Miss Sunshine. His screenplay for Toy Story 3 was nominated for best adapted screenplay in 2010. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-20288810 Little Miss Sunshine + Toy Story = Amazing.
January 24, 201312 yr Author J.J. Abrams expected to be the Director then... Thoughts? Seems like the very safe choice for me.
January 25, 201312 yr Oh JOY. In all seriousness, I HOPE he can do a good job and I guess Star Trek Into Darkness will give me a good idea of whether he will or not (in my opinion), but based on what he did in Star Trek I have very little faith. Though of course Star Wars is a very different ball game and this is effectively a blank script.
January 25, 201312 yr J.J. Abrams expected to be the Director then... Thoughts? Seems like the very safe choice for me. hmmm, looks like the next Star Trek movie will be helm by a different director if JJ Abrams takes Star Wars on, as the next Star Trek movie is planned for 2015 as far as I know. Ridley Scott would be my ideal choice as he could turn the Star Wars saga into dark territory.
January 27, 201312 yr It feels oddly incestuous to me. He might as well direct the Mass Effect films after.
February 6, 201312 yr Author So Disney have also announced that aswell as the new triology they're doing backstory features aswell. EW seem to think they're doing a young Han Solo movie, and a Boba Fett bounty hunter story.
February 6, 201312 yr The latter yes please, the former not so much. Though there are a lot of brilliant existing stories out there I would quite happily see them work into a Han Solo movie. Personally I would LOVE a Bail Organa movie, it could include him getting Leia and whatnot.
July 26, 201311 yr Yoda is now confirmed (I think?) as the first spin-off, set for 2016. I can think of better ideas, the lightsabre scene with Dooku was exceptionally silly. However, if it follows what he did after Episode III (you never saw him go straight to Dagobah, unlike Obi Wan and Tatooine) then there's potential. On a similar note, I'm assuming they won't be doing anything with The Force Unleashed as it would just get too confusing with the new trilogy. Shame. Boba Fett and Han Solo seem like obvious choices for other spin-offs but there could be some really fun ideas elsewhere. A legion of Stormtroopers in a gritty debate on good and evil? How Greedo went from annoying child to inept bounty hunter? ADMIRAL ACKBAR?
