ah, but can you predict what the sales of the top 5 will be? There are 9 sales weeks (including the current one) left this year. Will 'We Are Young' pass a million sales? The track should sell about 20k or so this week, can it manage another 70k in 8 weeks?

I really hope 212 can keep Top 40 at least, but sales are always high around Christmas so it could quite easily be pushed out.
Usually even on the very last week of the year the YTD chart changes quite a lot. I remember last couple of years Radio 1 broadcast it a week early and it ended up quite different to the real one.

Didn't they broadcast the year-end top 40 on New Year's Eve last year instead of doing it alongside the weekly chart? Hopefully they do the same thing this year ;)

Yeah, I think they did. I agree, I hope they do that again, it deserves it own slot. I still think they had a week of sales missing, because Just Can't Get Enough and Who's That Chick? I remember being played, but in reality they just missed out with the last week of sales added in I think. And in 2010 they also had a few songs moving around, Radio 1 broadcast Helping Haiti at #10, but after the last week of sales Pass Out overtook it (2010 in particular was one it was risky to do a week early, since Matt Cardle was close to overtaking Eminem, and if he had done, they would've annouced the wrong "song of the year").

Although you find at that point during the year all the biggest hits re-enter the chart, and the year-end chart and the weekly chart aren't too much different anyway.

MTV usually start playing the YTD chart on the 27th December which clearly has a week missing which always winds me up!
Radio 1 have broadcast the end of year chart at various times of the week in the past few years and there's always been a week of sales missing. This year there should be no reason for a week to be missing as the chart year ends on Saturday 29 December so they could broadcast the chart on either the 30th or 31st of December...

*Especially* it changes alot on the last week of the year, since that's the chart with the Xmas iTunes voucher effect! :)

  • 5 weeks later...
