Kylie Minogue: 'I want my next album to be personal'

Published Friday, Nov 2 2012, 19:18 GMT | By Alison Rowley

Kylie Minogue has revealed that she has already started work on her next album.

The 'Flower' singer admitted that she plans to continue recording into 2013 and wants to combine more personal lyrics with her trademark dance tracks.

"I have started work on the next album," she told Yahoo! omg!

"Obviously this year has had me focused on other things but when I had a bit of time - actually in January, that long ago - I took my first steps into the studio."

She continued: "Next year will be the time to really get stuck in. I don't know studio-wise where [2013] will take me.

"I imagine it will be as always a mixture of songs I write and songs that come in that are killer tracks that I want."

Minogue - who recently released orchestral album The Abbey Road Sessions as a celebration of her 25th year in the music industry - also admitted that she would like to blend some of her more personal lyrics with club-style tracks.

"I said earlier in the year that I would love the next album to embrace my inner Ibiza but I think most of them do anyway," she said.

"It's been interesting this year with a song like 'Flower', which is such a personal song and so different to what people would expect from me.

"But the response to that has been amazing and people have really responded to it being a personal story so I'm keen to find a way where I could marry the two."

The star revealed that she has already begun to worth with new writers and producers on the forthcoming LP and would love to tour again soon.

"I love going in with people I know and that I've worked with before. We understand each other," she said.

"We get in the studio and just take off. I've worked with a couple of new people where we're just starting to get to know each other.

"Of course I want to go on tour again. At the end of every tour I say 'never again', but it is addictive.

"It's just such a beautiful thing. I do love touring - as tough as it is - so expect another one."

Kylie Minogue's The Abbey Road Sessions is out now.

Great to hear! I love the Flower lyrics, and it feels so much more personal when she said she wrote it along with many other tracks in 2005-2007 when undergoing treatment. Hopefully there will be a couple more ballads like Flower along with the usual dance songs.

Ya i def want more ballads, i love flower but i have in general loved the ballad tracks on some of her albums so i would like to see more of it. Im glad she has also started work on a brand new album so all going well we would be getting a brand new studio album this time next year.
She must have started some songs whenever she's had time this year, as it's been mentioned that there will be a studio album in 2013 for quite a while now. Wonder if she's going for another summer release or one in time for Christmas? I'm hoping for a lead single in June/July, second single in August/September and album in September.

I just hope she gets the new album right. Dont get me wrong, aphrodite and x i really enjoyed but for me if i could pick half the songs of x and half the songs of aphrodite and put them together we would have Kylie best album ever.

Hoping she works with Calvin Harris again, alot of his songs are pretty good and the songs he does for others (Cheryl and Rihanna) could easily be done by Kylie.

Stars and In My Arms are great, although Heart Beat Rock and Too Much are less so. It would be great if he could give her a stomper hit like he's done for Rihanna and Cheryl, and perhaps, touch wood, Radio 1 and Capital would forget about the age and audience "issue" and playlist her!

To reverse her fortunes on radio 1 i think a duet with Calvin Harris would be great to get her back on mainstream radio and possibly draw Kylie into a new market as well. Some of Kylies most recent tracks (pre abbey raod) would have suited radio 1, like a drug and the one for example would still suit that radio station to this day and multiple tracks from Aphrodite would appeal to their age bracket as well. Age should be nothing but a number, a good tune is a good tune regardless of old the person or people are singing it.

I'd love her to get another massive #1, so she could stick it up the R1 playlisters where the sun don't shine!

I agree about the Calvin Harris track but it would have to be a stronger track than "in my arms" cos I thought this was quite a weak calvin harris song. Also, the one was released but I don't think radio one supported it very much.

'In My Arms' is my second favourite Kylie song ever. :( I do think if it was released now it may sound a bit dated, as it's quite in keeping with what Calvin Harris was doing at the time, but it's so majestic. The best thing he's ever been involved in as far as I'm concerned.

Radio 1 did definitely playlist 'The One', but back then physicals were very heavily weighted in the chart and that's what a 4th Kylie single which would have only ever been a fanbase buy needed. It'd have easily got top 15 or so I reckon if they handled it properly.

In my arms would fall into one of Kylie's more forgettable singles in my ratings. It was catchy at the time but nothing stand out about it. I do think Kylie and Calvin could produce something far bigger and greater now than In my arms. To my knowledge Calvin has great respect for Kylie as an artist and they are friendly too so a future duet could be possible. I too agree this could put Kylie back on mainstream radio and open her to new fans, i think they could potentially come up with a huge number 1 hit.
