Don't you miss those good old days when we thought that there couldn't be a worse US president than George W. Bush?

The fact that this was even a possibility is unfathomable... but alas, something that I didn't think could happen, has happened.

I'm honestly waiting for the announcement that calls this all a hoax because the idea of having a misogynistic, bigotted, know-it-all as the leader of what is was perhaps the largest superpower in the world is mortifying. People also have another thing coming if they believe that they will be unaffected just because they live outside of the US.

Literally WTF

I know that it's more complex than just gender, but I think gender comes to play a lot more than you're making out. Michelle Obama is a different case, I don't think we can guarantee that she would have won in any way. Hillary had decades of experience to be president. And I really think if she had been a man she'd have nabbed the presidency, even if some of her actions had rubbed people the wrong way, the world is just generally more forgiving with men, and that's the way it is. Imagine a woman had said anything nearly as outrageous as "I like to grab women by the pussy because I can". Never underestimate the socially ingrained behaviour that people are brought up to see women as less than men. It doesn't apply to everyone, but it does to a lot.

I do think Michelle would have won, even if only narrowly. She's more popular than Barack in America and isn't really open to the same criticism as Hillary. She's genuinely popular. Of course gender will be a slightly factor in a country that can be so backwards like the US but it's definitely not enough to swing an election imo. She would've also won the African-American vote which appears to be weaker in this election. Likewise unless Trump performs the shock of the century and is a good president, she will win in 2020.

I honestly believe that if it was a male candidate with like the same brain of Hillary he would've won. There's still WOMEN who don't think a women should lead the country.

I'm still heartbroken and still fighting anyone who says it's going to be "ok"

But you talk about a better candidate. There is and will always be someone better than you at everything in life. But the fact is, that anyone with a functioning brain can see that Hillary is better than Trump. The list of reasons to find him "untrustworthy" far outweigh any reason to not trust Hillary, which is why most Western countries outside the US (Russia aside) are really scared today. And I genuinely beleive people would have been less suspicious of her, (like Lotti has just said) if she was a man with the same brain.

I think he's going to be a fairly unremarkable president really. For all his talk, he's already heavily moderated his stances to much more palatable versions. It really is just the knock on implications that horrified/horrify me so much. The fact that, once again, a brash know nothing man has beaten a vastly superior woman simply because of his gender. The fact that the Supreme Court could overturn or limit such basic and long standing freedoms as abortion. The fact that America has said it values a backwards, regressive view of itself more than a positive future. Trump isn't the worst, but his supporters ARE.
It's not gonna be the end of the world.

Probably.

It is. He's committed to pulling out of the Paris Agreement. The one global climate deal everybody was finally able to agree on that was our last hope, and it's now basically the new Kyoto. I'm heartbroken.

It's sad that more of America actually voted for Hillary. She had 35,586 more votes. Stupid system, really.
Got laughed for predicting a Trump win on here, well there you go.

I truly feel for America

I got laughed at too but truly hoped that I was wrong

Not a lot more and with his supporters clustered in the NE and swing states it was always gonna be a hard one to pull off. Gore got 500 000 more. She should have had millions more ://

So why did trump win if Clinton had more votes? I don't understand it

State by state system. Trump won more states, but more Americans wanted Hillary. Stupid really.

Donald J Trump is going to be a FANTASTIC President for the United States and a true, true Leader for the Western world (unlike the disappointing weak Obama). I always believed in the Trump movement and never listened to the polls or the mainstream media who vilified him. Globalisation is dying now and people power and nationalism are returning, thank God.

Why Trump always knew he was going to be the President
