I'm not denying there's a shift, but no one quite seems to know what it is yet.

I think it'll be adult contemporary/alternative, because of Adele and songs like We Are Young, Pumped Up Kicks, Somebody That I Used to Know, Drive By, etc. and currently Ho Hey. In a couple of years I think it'll come to a point where pop stars will have to do songs like that to get a hit.

Thats why i like an artist like Bruno Mars because he does this type of song without following the crowd. Whereas artists like rihanna/usher etc follow the crowd by doing dance songs just to fit in with whats cool!

I definitely agree with your comments about Bruno.

But I don't think Rihanna follows the crowd. In fact, I think the crowd follows her. She was releasing dance music in 2008 (2005/6 if you include PDR and SOS) with 'Don't Stop the Music' and 'Disturbia' while it was trendy to be retro (Duffy, Amy, Adele, Gabriella) and in 2009, the year GaGa made electro-pop trendy, Rihanna released an album that was of the complete opposite sound. This was while a lot of artists arguably jumped on the GaGa bandwagon. Rihanna returned back to her dance routes in 2010 and after her huge success with OG and WMN, the likes of J.Lo jumped on the Rihanna bandwagon. Also, WFL has now catapulted Calvin Harris to fame in America and everyone wants to work with him now.

Where has the version of Diamonds gone that was top 10? It's not showing up on livepopbars at the moment.

It's been deleted by the looks of it!

Looks like the single version of 'Diamonds' has been deleted. Retarded move by her label as it had 2 versions selling well but now the album version is going to have to climb up to about #3 in its own right if the song is gonna continue selling as it was. Up to #16 now anyway so it might manage it, but still a stupid move.

PSY back in the top 10 yet again then (not sure if he or The Lumineers have re-entered the top 10 more times, I think both have done it about 5 times). Rudimental back up to #11, they are still holding up great so should get at least a second week top 15 if not a climb/non-move :D Disclosure also continuing to hold up brilliantly, still at #18.

Christina Perri at #12 and #38 - have Heart FM etc. (re-)picked up on this yet? If she can command MOR radio as well as she did with 'Jar Of Hearts' this could end up being another massive hit for her.

Olly's album version up to #32, could see this getting about as high as Robbie's album version (i.e. ~#20). Olly could have an outside chance of doing another 100k this week I think!

The Pogues at #61 and #65, the second version has been closing in on the first for a while now and looks like it'll overtake in a couple of days possibly. Odd as it's 99p while the higher version is only 79p. Wham! and Wizzard have both entered the top 100 now at #87 and #97 respectively, I shall do a full Christmas update in a bit I think!

Lenka 'Everything At Once' #68, it's had a chart run of 76-76-77 thus far and looks like it may continue that run of bad luck

If Olly does another 100k, he definitely get another week at #1 before the X Factor single goes out, I can't see Tulisa getting a #1, she probably shot herself in the foot, by releasing the single and album in the first week. People will just buy her album.

Yeah riri was a bad example lol just thought it would be too controversial. Maybe im just fed up with her music at the mo!! :P

I think that genre (if you can call it that) will continue to grow but I can see more dubstep and quiet storm-ish stufff becoming the dance music of choice. Disclosure and their ilk aren't that far from the likes of Alt-J in reality so "indietronica" (what an awful name) may do quite well.

Is it me or the version of Rihanna - Diamonds that was in the top 10 has been deleted?

It has been deleted in every country it seems. It was the single version that was released before the album. You can sill buy the song if you want to - but only the version from the album. Silly move though as the deleted version was higher in the itunes charts and so she is losing her No 1 effect and Top 10 effect in several countries.

Huh? Labrinth hasn't gained on Olly at all, he's probably actually further behind now Olly's second version is higher than his. I assume you've got these mixed up since Bruno is still gaining (but even so I doubt Bruno will get #1).

If you look on the live Itunes popularity from 10 hours ago Bruno fell back to half Olly's popularity and Labrinth moved into 2nd on 0.8750. I'm glad Olly's 2nd version is number 28, he does still have a good cushion.

11. Rudimental - Not Giving In (Has been reduced to 59P

12. Rihanna - Diamonds (Please knock PSY out the top 10, I don't think this version will even get near the top 3)

14. Girls Aloud - Something New (For a comeback single 2-14, Ouch)

26. Taylor Swift - I Knew You Were Trouble

40. Mariah Carey - All I Want For Christmas Is You

43. Kelly Clarkson - Catch My Breath (Can't believe this is missing the top 40 :( )

Or maybe she shot herself in the foot by releasing a shit song :P

It wasn't just Rihanna. There were also Justin Timberlake, Usher, Nelly Furtado, Chris Brown, Flo Rida, Britney Spears, Katy Perry that had massive dance/electropop hits in 2008, they paved the way for the Black Eyed Peas and David Guetta to come along in 2009 and continue doing that sort of music.

I'm not sure if we can say SOS started the electropop trend, since Maneater and My Love were out around the same time iirc. It's difficult to pick just one song, and also it's just a slight alteration of crunk anyway.

Or maybe she shot herself in the foot by releasing a shit song :P

Young managed to get to #1 even though it was awful (in my opinion ).

Yeah, it'll be interesting to see what happens. I would love more songs like Latch to be big hits, and that type of music is minimal enough to allow artists to actually be creative and experiment with weird sounds.

I don't think dubstep can ever properly become big, since it's main audiance is probably 15-30 year-old straight males, most of who illegally download, and the ones that do only make up a tiny proportion of the iTunes downloaders. For a dubstep song to become a massive hit again it'll have to see stuff like Louder (basically a pop song at 140 bpm with dubstep synths and drums). And they'll always have to have singing vocals on aswell.

:cheer: Hopefully people don't get the song, and get the album instead. It really is an incredible album, and deserves to decently for her

I agree. Sight of You is so poor compared to some of the other songs on the album. She could have gone for Kill Me Tonight (major ) or Live Your Life, British Swag, Steal My Breath Away etc.

Diamonds  #10

Live Your Life is just SCREAMING for a single release. And Steal My Breath Away should've been released in place of Sight of You (though I do love it). British Swag though, major NO NO. :P

That was just iTunes reverting (by a LOT - see Ke$ha apparently not being top 100 in that update). It does it all the time these days.

Olly album version up to #21, so my prediction it'd do about as well as the album version of 'Candy' looks like it could be a bit of an understatement! Bruno might knock the single version off #1 though, he's now over 90% and still increasing. Just noticed it's a top 2 of Murs and Mars currently :P

Other new album tracks:

33. Girl On Fire (feat. Nicki Minaj) [inferno Version] - Alicia Keys

Pre-order of The Justice Collective 'He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother' already at #161.

Live Your Life will be a massive hit for sure, but I'd prefer her not to release it. It's not really "her", and she has more interesting songs on the album I'd like to be singles, even though they'll probably miss the top 40, I'd still prefer them as singles.
