trying to think of what's missing and CAN'T. the top 10 so far is pretty damn good, though i don't think any of them will get quite that high 10 for mee.

It's not exactly obvious. This is the first year since I've been doing these that neither of the top 2 have been by bands though.

01 - Perfume Genius 'Put Your Back N 2 It'

Sometimes the best purchases are ones which are completely spontaneous, ones where you need that one extra to have enough items to qualify for a multibuy money saver, and you think "well, that will probably be alright". That, six months after its release, was 'Put Your Back N 2 It'. I knew of Perfume Genius, I'd listened to a couple of songs, but never really given anything like a proper listen. So I did, and amongst buying end of summer masterpieces by the likes of Noisettes, Yeasayer and Bloc Party listening to this set off one reaction; Wow.

It's an overused word in music and I for one probably use it far too much, but beautiful is the most perfect word to describe this album. Haunting, heartfelt, fragile, a rare half hour of music that's best enjoyed by itself. Don't do anything else, just listen to it, concentrate. Some of the most beautiful and touching lyrics with a backdrop of stunningly gorgeous music. I'd try and name standouts but I'd just end up posting the entire album it's that good.

There may be albums with some better songs released this year, or whose songs stand up far better on their own amongst other artists and genres, but that doesn't really matter, because as an album, the 12 songs on 'Put Your Back N 2 It' come together to form something better than anything else that's been released all year.

Great top two! Never in a million years would I have guessed Perfume Genius as I hadn't noticed you liking it throughout the year but it really is a great album so it's a most pleasing end to your chart. Poliça's album is decent enough while I've found myself liking Bat For Lashes' effort more as the year has progressed.

I think I bought the Maccabees album, can't recall anything from it right now though - not even totally sure that I ever listened to it(!) whilst I've never heard the Fixers one.

So many albums on there that I haven't heard  I need to get listening.

Which ones haven't you heard? I might try and pick ones which you might like. IIRC you liked Two Wounded Birds in UP, so I'd definitely listen to that if you haven't!

Thanks! It's not something I'd have ever mentioned on here, 'Take Me Home' was a minor hit on my Personal Chart so you probably wouldn't have noticed it, and I never posted in the thread. I didn't buy it until it had been out 6 months, it was literally a case of I needed an album to get 2 for £10 on Amazon and as their selection was more limited than it often is, was the one I decided to go for!

The Maccabees album is definitely worth a listen, I'm not entirely sure you'd like it but you might be surprised.

Me too.

Lololololol at Bloc Party's Four - it is awful apart from 3x3
