Posted December 6, 201212 yr 4pFjsiN2SRY :o Oh my flipping god :w00t: the film of 2013 :D The film actually orignates from an actual episode of the old Star Trek series "Where No Man Has Gone Before" to give some idea of the story. Anyone who has access to the old Star Trek series, will probably know what I mean.
December 6, 201212 yr Hmm, that trailer doesn't exactly give all that much away, though Benedict does seem to be playing a great villain. I just hope this new film is more STAR TREK than the last one, which was a decent action film set in space but was largely lacking any of the main distinguishing features of Star Trek (aside from ships/characters obv).
December 7, 201212 yr The film actually orignates from an actual episode of the old Star Trek series "Where No Man Has Gone Before" to give some idea of the story. Anyone who has access to the old Star Trek series, will probably know what I mean. OH NO if it originates from THAT I'm not too keen - it's one of the few original series episodes I've seen and I wasn't impressed as much as with the others. If they were using any TOS episode for inspiration why not 'The City On The Edge Of Forever' or something... :/ (yes I know that wouldn't work as well with their VISION but it's just a much cooler story) The trailer gives me more Khan vibes for the villain (so is it Gary Mitchell or someone based on him then if it is WNMHGB?) which is good if done right, if done wrong you end up with something like Nemesis. The rest of it is just explosions so I can't really tell much from that... so I shall just express a wish that we get a lot of Uhura/Sulu on screen and enough Chekov/Scotty that I have something to smile at without getting bored.
December 7, 201212 yr WNMHGB could be a good basis, I reckon Mitchell would be a good big screen villain, I mean he has all the HATRED necessary, but of course that would be a very vague interpretation of that episode given the outcome. There's a japanese trailer out there now featuring quite possibly the most iconic (non spaceship) Star Trek scene LIKE EVER which is obviously an attempt to either heavily imply who he is (it begins with K and rhymes with Man) or a BIG OL' TRICK to trick us all into thinking it is him and it not actually being him.

Anyone who has access to the old Star Trek series, will probably know what I mean. well I'm VERY excited! Where No man Has Gone Before was the first Star Trek I ever saw (summer of '69, as Bryan adams wrote for me) and it blew my mind, instant Trekkie. Star Trek, the last film, is the best film of the last 10 years, possible exception of Up. Loved it. Even non-trek fans I know loved it.... hooray!
January 13, 201312 yr Dunno if you guys are aware of this, but Benedict is actually playing an original bad guy apparently! I'm not a fan of 'Star Trek' in general, so I won't pretend I know what I'm talking about etc... but my friend told me this as he too, was confused as to who he would be. Anyway, having said that and thinking the first movie was "alright" and "decent, but not amazing" sort of thing, this looks a whole lot better. I'm actually pretty excited for this.
January 13, 201312 yr I'd heard about SOMETHING along those lines - which in some ways is far better than just recycling old ideas. If they have a good story for him lined up, I'll be all for it.
February 6, 201312 yr I didn't know Carol Marcus was going to be in this too, though she's YOUNG in it (obv) so no DAVID (thank God).
March 22, 201312 yr New trailer  thanks Martin, I've seen most of the big and art movies so far in 2013 (Orange wednesday is a must). The trailers for Star Trek Into darkness are better than all of them. By a long way. It's film of the year in waiting. Hope I'm not over-anticipating now....! cheers john
April 15, 201312 yr So can't wait for this :D Benedict is sure to play an amazing villain and the majority of the original cast is back. Set to be a great film.

May 2, 201312 yr I'm looking forward to this too. I hope it's better than the last one though. Whilst that was great fun it bore little resmblance to Star Trek and it did border on insulting my intelligence.
May 3, 201312 yr I'm booked to go on the opening night :D oooh i'm as green as Spock with envy!:) to boldly split infinitives collectively. should be great fun:)
May 9, 201312 yr Just read the plot this now has to work TWICE AS HARD to impress me. Indeed, the plot sucks the big one. It's like they're trying to destroy everything that made Star Trek what it is. Rather than taking what was good about it and working with that all they done is make a Star Wars movie with Star Trek's names.
May 9, 201312 yr The early reviews I've read have all fulfilled my expectations - a very good action film (like the first) but despite borrowing rather a lot from Trek lore it still feels somewhat empty and non-Trek.
