^ I might've agreed back in August or something, lol. But yeah they're both brilliant though

Of Monsters And Men

Little Talks

Chart Peak: #1

"I don't like walking around this old and empty house"

A bit lower than i expected to put this, the Icelandic group's trademark hit eventually made it to #1 on my chart back in July. Despite the content, upbeat rhythm of the song, the whole idea of the song is a tragic love story - a woman whose husband has passed away, the song being a conversation(?) between them. At least that's what i've heard [/lackofresearch]. But still, it's a brilliant track.

Everything Everything

Cough Cough

Chart Peak: #1

"And that eureka moment hits you like a cop car"

Where to start with this? I was quite curious to see how they'd handle their follow-up to "Man Alive", but any doubts i had were instantly kicked aside; this thing is MIND-BLOWING. The rapid drum beats, the coughing noises, the whole car-crash feel of it all - it couldn't get much better, could it?

Woo! Great start to the Top 10. "Midnight City" remains a TUNE - 29 weeks on my chart (3rd highest total of the decade so far!!) :o

Loving "Little Talks" and "Oblivion" (both were in my Top 10 of 2012) and "Cough Cough" is excellent, though I prefer "Kemosabe" slightly.

Why is this countdown getting better and better as it goes on?!

Little Talks + Cough Cough =

Well there's no use in it getting worse, is there? :kink:

Alt-J

Breezeblocks

Chart Peak: #1

"She may contain the urge to run away but hold her down with soggy clothes and breezeblocks"

With its dark lyrics and jarring "la la la la" intersections, the whole thing is so weird and wonderful - as is the video, probably my favourite music video from last year

You've reached new highs that I never thought you'd reach! :o I properly adore all of the songs in your Top 10!

Are there any more Alt-J songs to come? :D

I'm guessing it's all DOWN from here, ha ha

These are the songs still to come btw:

Disclosure - Latch

Django Django - Default

Jessie Ware - 110%

Plan B - ill Manors

Disclosure - Latch

Jessie Ware - 110%

Plan B - ill Manors

I've not heard Default (would I like Django Django?) but I love the other three songs! They were all in my Top 100 Of 2012. ^_^

Plan B

ill Manors

Chart Peak: #1

"Let's all go on an urban safari, we might see some illegal migrants"

Dropping the retro soul sound from his massive-selling second album, Plan B fully returned to his rap roots with this gritty and aggressive politically-charged tirade

I've honestly no idea whether you'd like them, one of their album tracks "WOR" was posted on the last page (at #17), so you might wanna give that a listen (although i'll be posting Default here pretty soon anyway) :D

# 3

Disclosure

Latch (feat. Sam Smith)

Chart Peak: #1

"If there are boundaries, I will try to knock them down"

Its surprising initial surge up the iTunes chart may have been strange, but after listening to this, it's quite easy to understand. A smooth, soulful vocal from Sam mixed with brother duo Disclosure's intoxicating production. The chorus is such a moment too; the falsetto, which OVERPOWERS EVERYTHING

Jessie Ware

110% If You're Never Gonna Move

Chart Peak: #3

"I know you hear me, but can you reach me"

A #3 peak? Wut. It even managed a higher peak on THIS chart! But its well-deserved, it's a song that's managed to sound brilliant throughout the whole year. Decided to post the original "110%" version, of course

Django Django

Default

Chart Peak: #1

"Take one for the team, you're a cog in the machine"

I knew it. I knew back in February that this would be THE ONE. I'd spotted this as iTunes' free single of the week, and it immediately got me on board with its memorable riffs, distorted vocal hooks and overall brilliance. And the rest is history. Predictable as it is, I couldn't really pick anything else - and so here it is, the best single of 2012...Default, enjoy :D

Yeah I predicted that. Kinda. :D Not bad, though, first thing it makes me think of is Shuffle - although whether it's because that did well for you last year (was it your EOY #1 then or did I make that up?) I don't know.

However, #1 aside, the rest of that top 5 is sublime - nice to see 110% make it all the way to #2 without ever going top 2! And another person with Little Talks top 10 is excellent to see. Fantastic taste showing through once again.

Shuffle was indeed my EOY #1 in 2011, and possibly one of my all-time favourite songs

Thanks Eyes!

Your top 4 is great! I've only heard Default once, but its quite catchy and I love the unconventional feel of it all. Latch, iLL Manors & 110% are all amazing too. The latter in particular was what really made me take notice of her. I've not heard this newer version yet though...is it any different to the original?

Thanks C.W. :D The new version has the "carving my initials on your forehead" sample slightly..muffled? But other than that, it's the same as the original

Flawless Top 3, you have "110%" at the same position as I did in my Top 100 of 2012. :D

Amazing #1, it deserved to do so much better on my chart this year - and looking forward to hearing more stuff from Disclosure in 2013.
