Straight away another recent #1 and this time it is Ireland singer/songwriter Conor J. O'Brien. At first many fans were a little alienated by the electronic production (and the original acoustic version of this song is indeed beautiful) but I think it works really well with the song, the interaction of delicate human vocals and the electronic beat which builds to a dramatic crescendo are a brilliant formula. In retrospect it probably deserved more than just a solitary week at the top, but put that down to bad timing as "All Your Gold" took over the #1 baton just 7 days later..

#013 Jessie Ware “Strangest Feeling” (1,047)

Ok.. so I'm a little bit obsessed with Jessie Ware, apologies, can't help what I like. Anyway, she had a minor hit on my chart in 2011 with Sampha ("Valentine" reaching No.11 in February 2011) but when she released "Strangest Feeling" as a on-air/on-sale track in November I was instantly hooked. This was Jessie making her mark, she had up to then been a collaborator but now finally she was standing on her own feet and sounding fantastic. "Strangest Feeling" made No. 1 in a quiet week exactly one year ago, but continued to do well in 2012 and therefore just misses out on being in the Top 10 of the year. She still has another track to feature.. but what is it, and WHERE is it .. ?

#012 Oliver Tank “Last Night I Heard Everything In Slow Motion” (1,051)

 

Debut: 5th February 2012

The biggest hit from Unknown Pleasures in 2012 bows out at No. 12. It was Ryan (Triangles) who entered this beautiful song at the start of the year, written and performed by Australian singer/songwriter Oliver Tank. I'm a sucker for strings and this has got bags of that. "Last Night I Heard Everything In Slow Motion" is a wonderful song with a really good video (if you haven't seen it, do - it is a MUST). Anyway, Oliver was pretty unlucky to get stuck behind one of the decades biggest hits and so spent 5 weeks in the Top 3, but sadly none at #1. :(

#011 Santigold “Disparate Youth” (1,086)

 

Debut: 11th March 2012

She changed one vowel in her name, but she came back with an even better album in 2012 (despite us having to wait almost 4 years for it, I wasn't that upset in the end). "Disparate Youth" was the lead single, and little had changed from her sound from her self-titled LP; it's catchy melody and driving beat made it a firm favourite in April and it managed to grab a solitary week at the top in a very competitive chart.

 

Right I'm off for a cup of tea and a bit of cake, the Top 10 will follow shortly... who is in it? Is this the first chart to NOT feature "Climax" by Usher in it, and where has the biggest No. 3 hit of the year ("Little Talks") charted? Find out, if you want, in a bit.

The highest male fronted record is at No. 4 (Alt-J), which means after 2 years of male domination, the entire Top 3 of 2012 is women only. :o I certainly didn't expect that. The number 1 and number 2 are both miles ahead of everyone else, but who has taken the all important No. 1???

Love your to 10 so far, like most of the tracks probably the only track I'm not familiar with is Grizzly Bear.

The track still sounds brilliant, peaked at #1 for me as well for 2 weeks early last year, just fell well away in my end of the year to date chart, its probably because better tracks were released during the year, which it pushed the track quite a way down my YTD chart.

 

I'm not a fan of Jesse Ware though, for some reason I just can't get into her material, don't know why, probably her music is not to my taste.
