December 31, 201212 yr Author http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51FlboJfXDL._SL500_AA300_.jpg #014 Villagers “The Waves” (1,041*) Debut: 9th September 2012 Chart Run: 38-21-14-09-04-01-02-02-04-05-08-11-16-24-32-34-39* (17 weeks... so far) Straight away another recent #1 and this time it is Ireland singer/songwriter Conor J. O'Brien. At first many fans were a little alienated by the electronic production (and the original acoustic version of this song is indeed beautiful) but I think it works really well with the song, the interaction of delicate human vocals and the electronic beat which builds to a dramatic crescendo are a brilliant formula. In retrospect it probably deserved more than just a solitary week at the top, but put that down to bad timing as "All Your Gold" took over the #1 baton just 7 days later..
December 31, 201212 yr Author http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31u+fvaUHZL._SL500_AA300_.jpg #013 Jessie Ware “Strangest Feeling” (1,047) Debut: 20th November 2011 Chart Run: 48-32-17-10-05-03-01-02-02-05-09-13-19-25-30-38-44-48 (18 weeks) Ok.. so I'm a little bit obsessed with Jessie Ware, apologies, can't help what I like. Anyway, she had a minor hit on my chart in 2011 with Sampha ("Valentine" reaching No.11 in February 2011) but when she released "Strangest Feeling" as a on-air/on-sale track in November I was instantly hooked. This was Jessie making her mark, she had up to then been a collaborator but now finally she was standing on her own feet and sounding fantastic. "Strangest Feeling" made No. 1 in a quiet week exactly one year ago, but continued to do well in 2012 and therefore just misses out on being in the Top 10 of the year. She still has another track to feature.. but what is it, and WHERE is it .. ?
December 31, 201212 yr Author http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51IS3uzlufL._SL500_AA300_.jpg #012 Oliver Tank “Last Night I Heard Everything In Slow Motion” (1,051) Debut: 5th February 2012 Chart Run: 49-32-20-12-06-02-02-03-03-03-05-07-15-20-29-35-43-46 (18 weeks) The biggest hit from Unknown Pleasures in 2012 bows out at No. 12. It was Ryan (Triangles) who entered this beautiful song at the start of the year, written and performed by Australian singer/songwriter Oliver Tank. I'm a sucker for strings and this has got bags of that. "Last Night I Heard Everything In Slow Motion" is a wonderful song with a really good video (if you haven't seen it, do - it is a MUST). Anyway, Oliver was pretty unlucky to get stuck behind one of the decades biggest hits and so spent 5 weeks in the Top 3, but sadly none at #1. :(
December 31, 201212 yr Author http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61xScTqSOTL._SL500_AA300_.jpg #011 Santigold “Disparate Youth” (1,086) Debut: 11th March 2012 Chart Run: 36-20-13-08-05-02-01-03-05-05-06-09-13-18-24-30-42-47 (18 weeks) She changed one vowel in her name, but she came back with an even better album in 2012 (despite us having to wait almost 4 years for it, I wasn't that upset in the end). "Disparate Youth" was the lead single, and little had changed from her sound from her self-titled LP; it's catchy melody and driving beat made it a firm favourite in April and it managed to grab a solitary week at the top in a very competitive chart. Right I'm off for a cup of tea and a bit of cake, the Top 10 will follow shortly... who is in it? Is this the first chart to NOT feature "Climax" by Usher in it, and where has the biggest No. 3 hit of the year ("Little Talks") charted? Find out, if you want, in a bit.

December 31, 201212 yr Author The highest male fronted record is at No. 4 (Alt-J), which means after 2 years of male domination, the entire Top 3 of 2012 is women only. :o I certainly didn't expect that. The number 1 and number 2 are both miles ahead of everyone else, but who has taken the all important No. 1??? http://imageshack.us/scaled/landing/42/572a.png #004 Alt-J “Tessellate” (1,322) Qg6BwvDcANg Triangles are my favorite shape Three points where two lines meet. December 31, 201212 yr Love your to 10 so far, like most of the tracks probably the only track I'm not familiar with is Grizzly Bear. Some of my favourite tracks are also in your top 10, for instance Woodkid and Off Monsters & Men seem to have the same taste in music. Some of the other tracks are featured elsewhere in my chart.

January 1, 201312 yr Excellent #1 and great chart run. The track still sounds brilliant, peaked at #1 for me as well for 2 weeks early last year, just fell well away in my end of the year to date chart, its probably because better tracks were released during the year, which it pushed the track quite a way down my YTD chart. I'm not a fan of Jesse Ware though, for some reason I just can't get into her material, don't know why, probably her music is not to my taste.

January 3, 201312 yr I thought there would be a lot more in here that I didn't know! :o Obviously everything that's in my top 100 I love so I shall comment on some I didn't include and ones I've not heard and will listen to now... #005 Grizzly Bear “Yet Again” - I never liked GB much before (couldn't get into Vecketemist (sp?) at all), only downloaded this by chance. I do really like it, but hadn't listened to it enough for it to make my top 100. #009 Grimes “Oblivion” - this is very good, but I do like 'Genesis' a lot more, although so do you it seems so all good! :D #010 Of Monsters and Men “Little Talks” - I do really like but I went off it a bit towards the end of the year. #013 Jessie Ware “Strangest Feeling” - Listening to this now, I like it, might be a grower. #014 Villagers “The Waves” - this is OK but I was a bit disappointed by it after their excellent debut #016 The Black Keys “Lonely Boy” - Really should've included this in my 2011 EOY #019 Dog Is Dead “Glockenspiel Song” - Listening now, I've heard something else by them but I can't remember the name which was quite good, this is decent too. #024 Frank Ocean “Pyramids” - I like him, and this is good, I just can't get into him at all #028 Ms Mr “Hurricane” - only heard the UP entry which I deleted... #032 M.I.A. “Bad Girls” - I was really disappointed by this #038 Everything Everything “Cough Cough” - I heard this once and quite liked it, not sure why I never #041 Jamie N Commons “The Preacher” - listening now, it's ok but probably won't listen again #049 Arctic Monkeys “R U Mine?” - I liked this for about two weeks. :( I haven't heard any of the following, so will hopefully get round to taking a listen to them over the weekend! :D #044 AlunaGeorge “Your Drums, Your Love” #058 Jamie N Commons “Devil In Me” #061 The Tallest Man On Earth “1904” #065 Daughter “Smother” #072 Kwes “Bashful” #073 SBTRKT “Hold On” #083 Lemonade “Neptune” #085 Burial “Kindred EP” #088 Porcelain Raft “Unless You Speak From Your Heart” #092 Patrick Wolf “Overture” #095 Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs “Household Goods” #096 Toy “Lose My Way” #100 Hooray For Earth “Never”
