At #79 is Labrinth who picked up his first #1 with 'Beneath Your Beautiful', the sixth single from his debut album 'Electronic Earth' (a singles run of 3-2-4-12-55-1) thanks to a brilliant performance on The X Factor and the presence of flavour of the year Emeli Sandé on featured vocals (it was her second #1, both as a feature). Two more #1s in this section, Tulisa's career started off on a successful note with 'Young' but subsequent singles and her album have cemented her as a flop. That's at #78, while at #76 is the third #1 of the year from Rita Ora, 'How We Do (Party)' which sounds hilarious on MTV with their insistence to bleep out all alcohol references. Her other two #1s are still to come. Finally at #77 is Mumford & Sons with the lead single from their difficult second album 'Babel'; they seem to be doing alright as the album has been another strong seller in both the UK and the US and 'I Will Wait' became by far their highest peaking single making it all the way to #12 and displaying potential for similar longevity to singles 'Little Lion Man' and 'The Cave' from debut 'Sigh No More'. Probably my least favourite single from Maroon 5. Another song that didn't do as well as it could've done given by the artist is "Part Of Me", the lead single from the Teenage Dream re-release and easily one of Katy's weakest singles from a cracking era. Then we have the amazing "Boyfriend" by Justin Bieber which didn't do as well as I thought with only two weeks within the top 10, but 18 weeks in the top 100 isn't bad going really and his sales never seem to live up to his celebrity. Summer smash "Heatwave" by Wiley and featuring vocals from Dayo Olatunji (how did I not know who that was until yesterday) is up next after having a very good start but appearing to drop quite quickly once the heatwave was out of the way. Finally we have charitable The Voice judge and Black Eyed Peas frontman will.i.am who enlisted Dutch vocalist Eva Simons to give him a #1 hit. Leagues ahead of "T.H.E. (The Shittest Ever)".

It's also Ne-Yo's second highest entry and his highest is also in this section, at #67 - 'Let Me Love You (Until You Learn To Love Yourself)' continued his pattern of getting a #1 as the lead artist in every even year since 2006. He also went to #1 featuring on Pitbull's 'Give Me Everything' in 2011. Another generic dance-pop song by a male RnB singer is one place below that, namely 'Scream' by Usher. I quite like Ne-Yo's track but Usher's is just awful and it was a real :manson: moment to see it being a much bigger hit than the great 'Climax'. One place below that is Swedish House Mafia who finally got their first #1 with their sixth and, barring a future reunion, final single 'Don't You Worry Child' which features vocals by John Martin. He also sang 'Save The World' but did not get a featured credit on that. SHM had a remarkably consistent chart career for a 'pure' dance act, going 7-4-10-4-13-1 (they also released two albums but due to being a mixture of the SHM singles and tracks and remixes by the individual members Axwell, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso they charted on the compilations chart; 'Until Now' reached #1 there). Finally at #66 is the gorgeous 'Little Talks' by Icelandic indie-folk-pop band Of Monsters And Men. Follow-up singles have not made as much of an impact thus far ('Mountain Sound' is #534) but album 'My Head Is An Animal' made #3 and has had decent longevity. Edited January 12, 201312 yr by Bré

"Express Yourself" uses an awful sample and his other singles (bar maybe "Treatment") are way ahead in terms of quality. Swedish producer Otto Knows follows with "Million Voices", another track I never got the fuss about, it just seems so average to me. One of the biggest hits of 2011 has made it to #63, what a chart run. At least this one isn't too awful to say it's LMFAO. Surprisingly the best song of the section comes from Chris Brown. People slag off the autotune but WHO CARES, it's just a great catchy song and one of Chris' best. It's also a good song to make parody lyrics out of (I'm looking at you Lee Wallace). From the best to the worst song of the section (yes I'm serious), we have "Skyfall", the James Bond theme from Adele which puts me to sleep every time I hear it, so dull. Give me "Another Way To Die" anyday. So glad it missed #1.

That's a lot better than his own two hits so I'm pretty happy about that. Christina Perri's hang-on from 2011 'Jar Of Hearts' is 59th, then in 58th is the year's token slightly oddball summer novelty dance #1 from Sam And The Womp with the horrific 'Bom Bom' which I will never understand the appeal of. Lloyd dropped out of the top 10 with top 3 hit 'Dedication To My Ex (Miss That)' feat. André 3000 and Lil Wayne over Christmas 2011 but returned to the top 5 in January, reminiscent of a previous André 3000 song, 'Hey Ya!' by OutKast. Not sure 'Dedication To My Ex (Miss That)' will quite get the same classic status as that, it's okay but I'd forgotten it existed until now. Finally at #56 is Jessie J who pulled out David Guetta for a guaranteed hit and even went as far as completely copying 'Titanium' with 'LaserLight'. Thankfully it wasn't anywhere near as big as 'Titanium' but it was a top 5 hit.

Then we have "Video Games" by Lana Del Rey, one of her more bareable songs but that isn't really saying much. "Diamonds", the lead single from "Unapologetic", Rihanna's latest 'effort', has made it to #53 after 13 straight weeks in the top 10, impressive for a song which isn't quite on par with "We Found Love" or "Only Girl (In The World)". Surprise success "She Doesn't Mind" comes close to the top 50 after being at #2 for three straight weeks - an alright track, pleased to see it perform better than "Got 2 Luv U" but I don't quite understand how it did this well. The unlucky song to just miss the top 50 is "Good Time", not that """popstar""" Adam Young should care too much. A great pop track that should've done better - #5 peak and only four weeks top 10? Paloma Faith slightly disappointed with her singles success from her debut album, only reaching as high as #15 with 'New York', but she finally scored a first top 10 hit with 'Picking Up The Pieces', the first single from her second album 'Fall To Grace' which has proven to be a lot more successful than 'Do You Want The Truth Or Something Beautiful?', still at #9 as I type having barely left the top 20 and never the top 40. fun. screamed one hit wonder when they burst onto the scene with 'We Are Young' (feat. Janelle Monáe) so it was somewhat of a surprise that the follow-up 'Some Nights' did as well as it did, giving them a second decent sized top 10 hit and a second huge hit in America. Possibly helped by being a LOT better than 'We Are Young', possibly a bit of Paul Simon 'Graceland' influence in it. • ALBUMS • 46. The lead single 'Jealousy' also spilled into 2012 and he added 'Losing Myself' to the hit tally from 'Echoes' within the year. Sadly the best of the singles from the album and probably his best single overall, 'Come On', was confined to just two weeks in the lower top 100 in 2011. Kosovan-British pop hoe Rita Ora is at #45 with her debut album 'ORA' which, after three straight #1 singles, unsurprisingly went straight to #1 on the albums chart. It didn't exactly have Earth-shattering longevity spending only two weeks in the top 10 to begin with and adding another 2 thanks to price reductions in the New Year. However it has somehow produced a post-album top 10 single and the 4th/5th single 'Radioactive' has charted at #60 thus far in 2013 (so not listed above) and is likely to make the top 40 this week at the time of typing. Re-peaked earlier this year after being used as part of the Jubilee celebrations and then some radio stations started picking up on the track. A great song and I'm very pleased at how big a hit it's been even without it ever going higher than #15. This is followed by one of the earlier #1s of the year, "Hot Right Now", the best thing Rita Ora has and will ever put her name to (along with fighting "Louder" for DJ Fresh's best song). Didn't hang around for ages in the top 10 or top 40 but it did sell 100k+ first week and stuck around for a long time in the lower regions. • ALBUMS • 44. The first of these is "Wrecking Ball" which got to #1 without needing a hit - the lead single just missed out on a top 100 placing. Can't say I'm interested in Brucie or know much about him. Someone I am interested in, Justin Bieber with my 3rd favourite album of the year, "Believe", beat Cheryl to #1 by a few thousand copies and did better in the long-run too ("A Million Lights" is #64). The album spawned five top 40 singles, both promo and official, what slayage. Only spent two weeks top 10 but it has seen slight boosts around the time of single releases.
