BBC Sound of 2013 nominee Arlissa is due to release her second single, "Sticks and Stones", on 3 March. It's a great R&B-influence pop song (so mods feel free to move this topic!) from what I've heard of it from live performances - most recently on the New Year's Eve Top of the Pops:

There are no studio versions of it online yet, but she's filming the video in New Orleans on 6 January, so I'd expect that we'll see that soon. I'm hoping she's a success because I absolutely love this song and her voice and her are both gorgeous! I'm interested to hear what her album is like too, her last single ("Hard to Love Somebody" vs. Nas) was quite different:

I have been waiting SO long for a studio version of that. Please can we get it soon.

I'd guess that her album will sound more like Sticks and Stones, all the blogs that I've read seem to be saying that Hard To Love Somebody was a one off, which is good as I far prefer Sticks and Stones - such powerful vocals.

Her voice is awful... so all over the place and warbly. Ugh. R&B's own Florence Welch? Maybe.

I am actually with you on that one. I mean, I actually quite like the song but I don't think her voice is very bland and she does sound like she is doing a Florence impression in some parts. I can't see her doing well this next year, maybe at best, similar success to Delilah? But then again, I think Delilah is far more appealing.

You should have done, it's a great song. It's like a Eurovision entry crossed with Alesha Dixon's Drummer Boy, but with an edge of cool to it, I love it!

I just gave 'Sticks And Stones' a listen and within the first 15 seconds my first impression was Shakira. It's the "eyo eyo eee yo" vocals at the start that make me think of Shakira and some of her tracks.

It sounds like a hit in waiting. Like the tribal vibe about the song whilst still having the commercial edge. Actually, GD's summary is spot on. :D

I didn't think of that before! (nor the Florence comparisons, but both are similar). It is a very distinct hook though - I managed to make my mum remember it from the Top of the Pops performance by *cough* singing that section. I'd be over the moon if it was a hit, Arlissa's my favourite new discovery of 2013 (I didn't hear "Hard to Love Somebody" last year), and we're only three days in!

i've been obsessed with this song since I saw her sing it on new year's eve TOTP, I really hope that it does well when released :)

Isn't that meant to be a good thing though? :kink:

As for me, I like the song but I haven't really given it much of my attention, I much prefer Hard To Love Somebody though, she sounds so beautiful on that song.

And Jahq, how do you unbreak the link? :P

Replace the stars with the right letters. :P

Cheers! :D

It's giving me iamamiwhoami vibes on first listen. Which might be a good or a bad thing, I haven't decided yet.

Meh, on second listen, it's a bit boring and gets repetitive after a while. Maybe I'm not seeing what everyone else is seeing in this song though...
