After just one week at the top, Laura Mvula's "She" drops to #3 as Foals hold steady in the runners-up position with former-#1 "Inhaler" and Autre Ne Veut powers forward to take the first #1 of 2013. Autre Ne Veut very loosely translates from French as ‘I want no other’ - the pseudonym for 30 year-old New York musician Arthur Ashin; his self-titled debut was released in 2010 and in February his second LP Anxieties will be released. The first single to be taken from it "Counting" explores his anxieties about his grandmother and avoiding calling her because he worries that the next time he talks to her will be the last.

 

Breaking into the Top 5 are bands who have recently had big hits here in the late stages of 2012. Everything Everything climb from 9-4 with "Kemosabe" matching the peak of previous single "Cough Cough" ahead of their new album Arc which is due next Monday. Villagers, who recently had a #1 with "The Waves" (down 5 places to #44 this week) jump 3 places to No. 5 with "Nothing Arrived", the second single from forthcoming second album {Awayland} which is also due next Monday and follows up 2010s brilliant Becoming A Jackal.

 

There is just one new single in the Top 10, and that comes from Haim; the Californian band who recently won the BBC's Sound of 2013 poll. "Don't Save Me" inches up 11-9.

 

There are 6 new entries and 1 re-entry on the first chart of the new year, the highest from Birmingham's Swim Deep who go straight in at No. 34 with "Honey". Bat For Lashes returns with "A Wall" new at No. 36 and Icona Pop are back in the chart with "I Love It" at No. 42.
