I Know It ● (1983) ● 'Madonna'

Thought this could do with bringing back after sparking quite a bit of discussion each week the last time it was here. To start off, I thought we should go back to the beginning of Madonna's career...

Background

Written by Madonna and produced by Reggie Lucas (responsible for producing 5 other tracks on the album), I Know It appears as the fourth track on Madonna's self-titled debut album. It's not been performed on any Madonna tours (The Virgin Tour didn't feature any non-single tracks with the exception of Over and Over), and features as a B-side on the US physical of Holiday, the European physical of Lucky Star and The Look of Love physical.

Opinion

This is my favourite record on the album. To me it's the most pop sounding track and was the one which stood out to me the most when I first listened to the album. 'Madonna' as a whole is quite a strong album, although after listening to all her others, what it's missing is a song with meaning and inspiring or poetic lyrics. Not sure if I would wanted this to have been released as a single or not, as much as I like it, it does sound more of an album track.

So what's your opinion on I Know It? Would have liked this to have been a single?

I love this track especially because I don't play it very often! I don't think it's single material but I love the bridge 'take your love and run from me......'
I'm not really a fan of this song, some great lyrics. Most of the time I play MADONNA I usually skip it.
