Posted January 16, 201312 yr This 6 part series (drama/fantasy/dont really know) started last night on Channel 4 and I was very impressed - on many levels. It was quite dark - and I read it's going to get darker. Anyone else see it? Utopia will follow a group of people who find themselves in possession of a manuscript of a cult graphic novel. The tome is rumoured to have predicted the worst disasters of the last century and the group soon find themselves targeted by a shadowy organisation known only as The Network Channel 4 has ordered a new drama series titled ‘Utopia‘ from former Spooks writer Dennis Kelly. The broadcaster has ordered six episodes for the show’s first season, with production due to commence on the series later this year. Produced by Kudos Film & TV, the drama series tells the story of a small group of people who find themselves in possession of a manuscript of cult graphic novel Utopia, their lives are soon knocked out of kilter by explosive events. Targeted by a shadowy organisation known only as The Network, they are left with one option if they want to survive: they have to run. Marc Munden is attached to direct, while Kelly, Jane Featherstone and Karen Wilson will executive produce. Speaking of the series, Jay Hunt, Channel 4′s Chief Creative Officer, said: “Utopia is everything you expect from a Channel 4 drama – witty, utterly compelling and impossible to ignore – and I’m delighted that as part of our increased commitment to new drama on the channel, we’re working with one of the UK’s leading writing talents, Dennis Kelly.” Edited January 16, 201312 yr by AnthonyT
January 16, 201312 yr Yes, it was stunning on all levels. Very stylised and gorgeously shot. The killer duo were creepy as hell.
January 16, 201312 yr Author I'm going to watch ep 1 again to look out for things I didn't notice last night.
January 16, 201312 yr The first VERY GOOD TV show of the year. I loved the contrast of the bright and garish visuals, and the dark and sinister plot. Enough mystery to ensure you want to watch the next episode, the creepiest TV villains for a long time (I'm genuinely sorry they've already dispatched the Spandau Ballet time-traveller), and for all the critics hand-wringing over the eye-gouging scene, it wasn't really anything you wouldn't see in a 15 Hollywood action-movie.
January 24, 201312 yr Just watched the first episode and it was so incredible. I was either *.* or O_O the entire hour. "I didn't expect you to be..." "What? Tall?" "...black" :D
October 16, 201410 yr does anyone know when eutopia series 3 is going to start on E4? i've been watching this on dvd and love it can't wait for the new series!
October 16, 201410 yr Utopia (I assume you mean this one) has not been renewed for a third series unfortunately :( The ratings were less than stellar and though series 2 was very good (the first episode in particular), it didn't do anything that series 1 didn't do better, so I guess it's for the best, but it's still quite sad as series 1 was one of the best seasons of TV I've seen in years, I even wrote my undergrad dissertation on it! Still, a US remake directed by David Fincher is coming, so maybe if it goes down well, another channel may pick it up? Wishful thinking I guess, I would definitely like to see a definitive end to it as the end of series 2 was obviously setting up for another series that we'll never see now. (Or we could assume The Network won, which would leave it on a beautifully uncertain note) Edited October 16, 201410 yr by Chez Wombat

(Or we could assume The Network won, which would leave it on a beautifully uncertain note) i heard about the US remake. i bet it will be on HBO. lol. i agree with you, series 2 ended on a clif hanger, i'd have loved to see what happened next. my burning question would have been.. does becky ever get back to normal after all?. do they eventually find a cure? i don't know why their's no series 3 (i know their was talks of 1, and i know the writer also had it planned). at 1 point the wikipedia page said channel 4 had renewed it, but if you go on the website, it does say something about a death (someone who developed a game for it?) wonder if that had anything to do with the sudden cancelation anyway thanks for the reply
October 16, 201410 yr Oh that's bad news! :( The last episode was indeed quite a cliff hanger and was suggestive that there was far more to come.
October 16, 201410 yr Yeah, I loved this and the last episode was left on a real cliffhanger which did leave me hopeful that a third season might happen, although I was aware that it didn't do very well/wasn't that well known. I was genuinely gutted when it was announced no third season would happen. :(
