Did not expect Cookies & Beans to get this far, will be nice to hear it again but it's got no chance of going to the final...glad to see Eric Gadd there too.

Hmm, completely predictable finalists then. Heartbreak Hotel is ok but I think I prefer the first semi final qualifiers from last year, one of them at least :P Neither of these are winners.
Ugh god f*** off Eric :( Really gutted Gosa couldn't at least go AC :(
brb crawling into my bed and crdying myself to sleep.

3 faves and Eric Gadd through - poor Mary, just as it was growing on me.

I suppose that's a YAY for the first heat - never expected the Cookie team to get this far.

I'm really anticipating Erik/Tone next week and Amanda Fondell the week after
Not a great heat quality wise this week, never mind, Swedish House Wives next week!

Well don't get your hopes up, they'll be finishing 5th if they're lucky!

Yes but their song will be a *.* moment regardless!

Just went back and watched this on catch-up whilst avoiding spoilers.

Near perfect results, really happy with "Burning Flags" overcoming predictions and advancing, my 2nd favourite behind "Skyline" which has grown quickly. Better than "Shout It Out".

And what was this Danny hate? For shallow reasons I'm very happy to have him on my screen for the next few weeks.

The only good thing about Gosa DNQing is that I get to hear it in stidio version in full now! <3

Looking back on last night, I can't help feel like Melodifestivalen is losing some of it's spark - I know it's only 1 heat in, and Semi 1 (Loreen and imo Marie aside) was pretty poor last year, but even looking ahead at future weeks, there isn't much that makes me think 'ooh, I can't wait'.

They were never my favourites, but it feels like it's losing some of it's Swedish charm, as we're losing some real pop/schlager gems that Sweden deliver so well - instead we're being given all sorts of different genres to try and appeal to all crowds, but with a lot less 'wow'.

David is this years 'big' pop male - and his dance-pop track seems a lot weaker than You're Out Of My Life/Popular/Amazing. I still love it, I just hope it picks up, because it was lacking that MF spark last night for me.

And it's exactly why Melodifestivalen has become SO popular around europe in the past few years. It's silly to only have schlager and pop competing really. Sweden is better than that surely?

You're Out Of My Life was SHIT as a big pop male track! And Melodifestivalen always HAS been pretty varied. The idea that schlager and classic Swedish pop predominates has been nothing more than a myth for a good few years - since 2007 at least. The difference is that now a lot of the songs could conceivably hit the charts, which is the way Eurovision's going as well. We're still getting distinctive entries, so I don't see that as a bad thing per se. And given you've only really been watching for two years I don't see THAT much of a difference between this first heat and a lot from the last couple Rob, so it seems a bit of an echo judgement!

I thought this was a pretty good and solid heat anyway. Nothing bad in here. My thoughts:

- Skyline was generic as hell, but to my shame that chorus had won me over by the second performance. The song's really everything that Shout It Out was trying for but missed for want of a great hook. Sort out the backing dancers' choreography in the first verse though David - THAT was embarrassing.

- Cookies N Beans were NOT an act I was here for but I really enjoyed that bridge. Is this the first MF song EVER Kempe's done without a key change? I loved how 80s the video effect in the middle eight was :D It was like CatCat REINCARNATE

- I'd forgotten Jay-Jay within seconds of the performance finishing. A nice song, but nothing more and it was one for the variety of the heat and never in contention.

- Maru N'Diaye is the BLACK HADISE :D The bitch couldn't even be bothered to sing her own f***ing chorus! Haba Haba all over again. I was surprised she even got to fifth.

- I really enjoyed Eric Gadd's track. A really deserved ACer, because I don't think it was ever really in contention for more than that.

- I FUCKING LOVED YOHIO. Crammed with hooks, and it felt like a proper event performance. I actually think it could make a really, really good host entry. It's not going to happen, but it was easily my favourite of the night, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if he won the heat.

- Porslin left me DROWNING IN TEARS. This was my big surprise of the show in that I expected this to do a lot better. I could've understood AC, or even 5th, but 7th really boggled me. I guess it was probably too subtle, and possibly a sign that older voters aren't really out in force anymore - or if they were, a lot of the votes probably went to Eric Gadd.

- We're Still Kids fell totally flat. It was a genre which was always going to have a tough time of it anyway, and I wasn't really shocked at all when it crashed out straight away.

- It was enjoyable seeing Danny embrace his inner self during the Lena section of the interval.

- The obvious and deserved top two, but Gosa AND Burning Flags getting top five did surprise me - for some reason I always thought of it as a one or the other scenario, given they both seemed like borderline qualifiers. We're Still Kids put paid to that one though.

- I LIVED for YOHIO's awkward dancing to The Arrival over the end credits.
