there's zero competition

There's always competition, whether it be releases in the same week or strong releases in previous weeks. Bruno Mars and Justin Timberlake (current top 2 right now) are going to be tough for the girls to beat.

... Actually, yes, there has been as much pressure as right now, if not more...

When Work flopped, Forever Is Over needed to be a big hit. They had pressure at that moment.

When Wordshaker flopped, Ego had to be a hit. BIG PRESSURE right here.

When Missing You was going to be their first #1. BIG PRESSURE right there.

When Headlines! was released, they needed it to be a hit after the flop of their last album. BIG PRESSURE right there.

When they released All Fired Up and was claimed "their best song, if this doesn't go to #1 nothing will" + all these formats and against a really tough competition. HUUUUGE pressure.

When they released On Your Radar, they needed it to be a hit too because they were supposed to be "huge" by that time. BIG pressure again.

When they went on a arena tour, they needed it to be a sell out tour because Girls Aloud has done it in the past. BIG PRESSURE again.

When On Your Radar and My Heart Takes Over were claimed flops, they needed 30 Days to go top 10. Pressure all over again.

They always have pressure on them. Everytime they release something, it's "make-or-break". A-L-W-A-Y-S. I've never seen a single release where someone didn't come and said "If this flops, I don't see them releasing another single". ALWAYS. And everytime someone goes and say "Yeah I know I said that for the last single, but I know this time it is the real make or break". It's getting ridiculous now. They definitely have pressure on them again with this release (mainly because they don't have a number one yet and they got Sean Paul with them) but they had releases with more pressure put on them in the past.

Well what I mean is that there's no direct competition (ala Sats vs Pixie vs Leona or Sats vs Chipmunk) that we can instantly rule the girls out of winning. A song this held back should be able to beat two songs that have been already available for a few weeks, but I guess Bruno and Justin are huge artists and the latter will have an advantage of his album being released that week (meaning 'Mirrors' will probably have more versions charting).

Work didin't flop in the slightest. It sold 100,000+ and wasn't promoted that well and it was the fourth single from an album that sold 300,000!

Well yeah you're correct there's always been pressure, but the pressure becomes greater over time as the flops continue to pile up. They're about to launch their fourth/fifth album campaign and considering their last era (including '30 Days' so that's FOUR singles and an album) only sold about 600K, there's more pressure than there was with Headlines (as Wordshaker flopping was justified by the fact that most other artists flop with their second album) or On Your Radar (as they were coming off the back of a successful era). They're at risk of becoming completely snubbed by radio as well. This needs to save their reputation.

That doesn't make any sense. Aside the fact that they have very few things in common with Girls Aloud, what everyone was saying here and in other sites is that they didn't need to seel out the dates, as arena tours can be very profitable even if you don't sell all the tickets.

I don't agree with that. Giving that it was so early in their carreer, the failure of the second album could've perfectly put them out of business right there. Now, because they've been accumulating top10s over the years, seems very unliquely they would just go without releasing at least a singles compilation.

But in the end, both of them are 'make it or break it' situations, the rest are only minimal differences.

Oh, don't worry, I agree with you. Their arena tour was probably a lot more profitable than their last theatre tour even if the latter was sold out and the AFU tour wasn't, but the pressure was on the girls when they announced the dates. They were "supposed" to be selling out the arenas because they were "supposed" to be well established and big by that time. It's the same people who say every single is a make or break situation, so I reckon it doesn't mean much. :P

I think they have done remarkably well for a girl group with no reality tv show-hype prior to the first single. and five years later they are still in the running for a #1 single.

I'm sure E! paid for the video/recording as part of the tv show deal, and their record label will be quite pleased with a #5 150k selling single, but would obviously love a #1 150k seller or more.

This only needs to do well to ensure a good standing for the next single/album

I would be disappointed with a total of 150k, even if that would be an improvement over the last two singles. My minimum mark is 200k.

Just had a look at the sales for this weeks current top 10:

1 Justin Timberlake 66,572

2 Bruno Mars 58 842

3 Bastille 58,625

4 P!nk/Nate Ruess 49,163

5 Macklemore/Ryan Lewis/Wanz 48,570

6 One Direction 46,021

7 Bridgit Mendler 38,208

8 Avicii/Nicky Romero 35,332

9 Baauer 28,199

10 Taylor Swift 26,814

Would love for the girls to get close to AFU sales (69k) for a #1 or #2 position if sales are similar next week but almost certain not to happen. Probably likely to be around 40-45k first week, so around a 4/5/6 chart.

I swear there have been more official add on dates then there have been singles releases by The Sats. Very intrigued for Sunday! :)

Sales should drop next week, meaning they will need around 60k to be number one! It all depends on their promotion. Dear god they really need to be on something as effective as Comic Relief! Urgh, Sales are quite high!

I definitely think this is on lock for #1, for once they've chosen the right week to try and get one.

The only other time I genuinely thought they had a shot at getting it was with 'Just Can't Get Enough'. I'm glad they're set to get it with this, the only other one of their other top 3 hits that was remotely deserving is 'All Fired Up' and I'm really loving this!

The publicity of getting a #1 would be great, it would rise their profile and consolidate their relation with radios...but in the end it's all down to sales. They've been living on that for five years and it's not going to be different now.

They will be OK if the sales are good. Thankfully they are doing good on pre-orders, so they should have a nice first week.

Even if I think it will be hard to get the #1, I think they have a fair chance.

Wee hint at the Number 1's across the pond :D lets hope WAU manages do to it!!

Didn't like that performance at all. Half of it sounded pre-recorded/mimed/overpowered by backing tracks to me. The "oh why are we..." lines just aren't as good without the backing track. :( I hated the routine as well. It reminds me of the stupid Higher choreography they do these days.
