A dancy feel to the top of the charts this week as Swedish DJ Avicii and his Dutch counterpart Nicky Romero spring to No.1 with the fantastic I Could Be The One! Margaret Berger's Norwegian Eurovision 2013 entry, I Feed You My Love moves up two places to a new peak of No.2 whilst German dance producer Zedd and vocalist Bright Lights round off an all new top three as Follow You Down leaps six places to No.3! Last week's No.1, Jógvan Hansen & Stefanía Svavarsdóttir's Til þín falls three places to No.4 whilst Macklemore, Ryan Lewis and Wanz stick at No.5 with Thrift Shop! Zedd gets a second week at the top of the album chart with Clarity whilst American singer Jewel's Greatest Hits debuts at No.2! Ellie Goulding's former chart topper Halcyon slides a place to No.3, Darin's new album Exit climbs to a new peak of No.4 and Calvin Harris dips a spot to No.5 with 18 Months...

Richard! Not happy to see Margaret blocked from her rightful place on top, but a good result for her nonetheless I suppose. SO happy to see her landsliding the competition last night, even if it was mostly a foregone conclusion. The crowd reaction during her first performance was just magic though. You're going to the ESC final, yes? JEALOUS. I'm sure she'll get there. (I'm making plans to be IN Malmo for it, though not in the arena. Exciting!)

 

I did, finally, just now, listen to 'Follow You Down', and WOW. It really is even better than 'Clarity'! Hopefully he can get recognition with a top forty placing for 'Clarity' then follow it up with a monster hit in FYD. I must listen to the album.

 

'White Noise' inching up there nicely. Very heartening to see it sticking high on iTunes!

 

Surprised to see Eric Gadd enter so high, but it was surprisingly catchy! I blame the piano. 'Begging' is very good, one of the best songs of that ilk I've heard in a while.

 

'Heartthrob' fading faster than I'd expected - not a fan?

Having heard this, I'm deeply disappointed. It starts off sounding ok with Christina's first verse. Then it goes into the 'Take On Me' melody which ruins the song for me. I'd have probably liked this more if they had created a new melody altogether. Even one that's vaguely similar would've been fine but not note for note identical. :lol:

I'd love to see the Avicii song at #1, from your comments it seems like you want lots of songs at #1 at the same time :lol: I wouldn't have even picked Clown as a single so she's doing very well, but I don't see the Brits boosting it all the way to #1, it's already had too much exposure. Someone Like You was a very different beast two years ago, it sort of appeared out of nowhere, whereas Clown would just be a promo slot for an existing top five single.

Richard! Not happy to see Margaret blocked from her rightful place on top, but a good result for her nonetheless I suppose. SO happy to see her landsliding the competition last night, even if it was mostly a foregone conclusion. The crowd reaction during her first performance was just magic though. I did, finally, just now, listen to 'Follow You Down', and WOW. It really is even better than 'Clarity'! Hopefully he can get recognition with a top forty placing for 'Clarity' then follow it up with a monster hit in FYD. I must listen to the album.

 

'White Noise' inching up there nicely. Very heartening to see it sticking high on iTunes!

 

Surprised to see Eric Gadd enter so high, but it was surprisingly catchy! I blame the piano. 'Begging' is very good, one of the best songs of that ilk I've heard in a while.

Levels was always good but never amazing for me, this is by far my favourite Avicii song to date :D No, Margaret's song is Norway's entry this year, Sweden's national final is still going on as we speak (for another month or so!). It really is an amazing track though. Glad you're liking Follow You Down and Clarity, hopefully both can become hits in the UK this year, they deserve it! Dance music is so good again now, thinking back to how crap it was in the mid-00s with all of the 80s looped house sample songs :lol: Doesn't look like Gabrielle will go top ten, let alone top three but I'm absolutely loving Thrift Shop and glad it inevitably hit #1 in the UK! Yeah Indigo's release must have been cancelled, I far prefer Snow anyway, I hope it can chart for you at some point. I'm unsure as to whether I Will Be Strong can make the final, it's had a fair few DNQ predictions and middling odds, but I absolutely adore it, was my xmas #1! It's the remix that I slightly prefer so it was only right to send that version to BJSC! Ghosty's entry is fantastic, so gorgeous, I get Riverside vibes from it so I'd be disappointed if it doesn't at least go top ten (and horrified at the tastes of BJSC voters!). Alive is very good too and I actually do like your entry too!

 

Let Her Go is a great song, sort of reminds me of the sort of thing James Blunt should release if he wanted a successful comeback, hope it can somehow be a UK hit! UP is good quality this time around too, Told You So is a great summer song, even if it's freezing outside, hope it does well :D I'm sure I Love It is just waiting to be a huge UK smash, at some point :lol: Pink's song is very good, great singles from a pretty mediocre album. Swedish House Wives are three middle aged Swedish singers and this is their Melodifestivalen entry (it flopped) written by the same two guys who wrote/produced Euphoria! I think you might like the song actually, it should be on Youtube! Change Your Life is a great late 90s esque pop song from Little Mix, like something All Saints might have done around 2000. I wonder if Feel This Moment can be another hit for Xtina (and Pitbull :P), I do like it shamefully.

9. Rachel Zeffira - The Deserters (NEW) (CR-9) :o I'm stunned to see this so high! Seems like Caerfyrddia can only produce Rontvian favourites in the first edition of each year - Bermudaz, Marigold and now Rachel Zeffira :kink:

19. Cascada - Glorious (20) (CR-7-5-11-20-19) I really hope Germany pick this on Thursday, but I'm preparing myself for disappointment

36. Swedish House Wives - On Top Of The World (NEW) (CR-36) Quite low here! I'm gutted they crashed out straight away :(

39. Erik Segerstedt & Tone Damli - Hello Goodbye (NEW) (CR-39) A really nice track! I'm glad they managed to get to AC!

41. Gianluca Bezzina - Tomorrow (NEW) (CR-41) Bit of a rip off of Train I think, nice enough but was nowhere near my favourite in the Maltese selection

56. Cookies N Beans - Burning Flags (NEW) (CR-56) I'm stunned this managed to go further in the competition, it's a really nice song but the vocals were disastrous and the purple faces were somewhat off-putting :kink:

59. Louise Hoffsten - Only The Dead Fish Follow The Stream (NEW) (CR-59) This is a surprisingly brilliant track! Proof that one should never judge a song by it's title!

9. It's a gorgeous track, haha yes, I do seem to give you high points in each first edition of the year! Great entry and it had better qualify!

19. I'd like to hope they will too but no doubt they'll go for something MOR instead of a dance song.

36. I posted my chart about an hour after I'd first heard the songs from the second heat, so this and the other three from Deltavling 2 are basically here based on one listen, they should all be significantly higher next week!

39. Indeed, far better than the clip suggested, would be nice to see them progress to the final!

41. A little bit, but I really like this song, far better than their last two entries for me.

56. It is strange, they wouldn't have done in a weaker heat (watch it go to the final now :lol:)

59. Indeed, very melodic and jaunty but I'm shocked that it went straight to the final! It reminds me of a more upbeat take on Blue Jeans by Lana Del Rey!

62. Indeed, I can't believe they've picked this but it is a good pop song!

Levels was always good but never amazing for me, this is by far my favourite Avicii song to date :D No, Margaret's song is Norway's entry this year, Sweden's national final is still going on as we speak (for another month or so!). It really is an amazing track though. Glad you're liking Follow You Down and Clarity, hopefully both can become hits in the UK this year, they deserve it! Dance music is so good again now, thinking back to how crap it was in the mid-00s with all of the 80s looped house sample songs :lol: Doesn't look like Gabrielle will go top ten, let alone top three but I'm absolutely loving Thrift Shop and glad it inevitably hit #1 in the UK! Yeah Indigo's release must have been cancelled, I far prefer Snow anyway, I hope it can chart for you at some point. I'm unsure as to whether I Will Be Strong can make the final, it's had a fair few DNQ predictions and middling odds, but I absolutely adore it, was my xmas #1! It's the remix that I slightly prefer so it was only right to send that version to BJSC! Ghosty's entry is fantastic, so gorgeous, I get Riverside vibes from it so I'd be disappointed if it doesn't at least go top ten (and horrified at the tastes of BJSC voters!). Alive is very good too and I actually do like your entry too!

 

Let Her Go is a great song, sort of reminds me of the sort of thing James Blunt should release if he wanted a successful comeback, hope it can somehow be a UK hit! UP is good quality this time around too, Told You So is a great summer song, even if it's freezing outside, hope it does well :D I'm sure I Love It is just waiting to be a huge UK smash, at some point :lol: Pink's song is very good, great singles from a pretty mediocre album. Swedish House Wives are three middle aged Swedish singers and this is their Melodifestivalen entry (it flopped) written by the same two guys who wrote/produced Euphoria! I think you might like the song actually, it should be on Youtube! Change Your Life is a great late 90s esque pop song from Little Mix, like something All Saints might have done around 2000. I wonder if Feel This Moment can be another hit for Xtina (and Pitbull :P), I do like it shamefully.

 

Avicii has got a decent lead now on iTunes so hopefully he could be the one (pun intended :kink: ) at #1 on Sunday. I noticed earlier that Margaret Berger's track was representing Norway. Not had much chance to keep up with the latest Eurovision news but should start checking them out soon(ish). Is it true Diana Vickers is supposed to be representing the UK, or is this just another rumour? :o Yeah, shame because I'm still not seeing Gabrielle Aplin in the singles chart on iTunes althogh I've bought the track via the EP (it's now #2 behind Foals) but those sales could push the Aplin further up the official chart (possibly like 'Video Games' and chart at #9 without ever making the iTunes singles top 10). 'Thrift Shop' is most likely going to become the biggest selling single of 2013 at some point. Whether it's overtaken later in the year is left to be seen. I'm still sure that yours and Ghosty's will qualify. We'll find out tonight (hopefully). :D

 

On an unrelated note, I had no idea that Passenger was British. :o Having done well in the Netherlands and Belguim I was thinking the singer hailed from one of those countries. I'm really liking the new Pink single too, you're right though about how they manage to get the single choices spot on. Ahh yes, Jonjo posted the video in one of the UK Chart Chat threads so gave it a listen. It's not as good as 'Euphoria' though (then again, Sweden really set an incredibly high standard last year - will be difficult for any country to better 'Euphoria' this year I reckon, even Sweden).

Completely overlooked this first time round. Seeing this so high makes me wonder if this is your entry, or the track you like the most. Either way, I think it's a brilliant track, a real throwback to 90s dance music and such an uplifting feel good song. I can see this doing really well, possibly win UP.

Thanks Jonjo :D Haha yeah, I'm glad that the Avicii song is a favourite of yours, although hasn't it only peaked at #5 for you? :o Get it to #1 if it's your favourite song of the year :P I often love Norway's entries, 2008/9 are both in my all time top 100 in fact, but I'm so glad that they've gone for BJSC legend Margaret to represent them! Even non-Eurovision hipsters should find something to love in this song! Begging is great but I feel like there'll be even better to come in MF in the next two weeks, there's certainly no Euphoria yet! Tone strikes again, I sometimes wonder if she's actually perfect, I love everything she does (not as much as Phil though :lol:) I know what you mean about Darin's album but I do like it, especially the deluxe version with the 6 bonus tracks from that TV show he was on. Yep, an LQ version of the 1D song is out, enough to give it a low debut here!

It has, but it'll most certainly peak again this coming week. I've had a shitty, crappy version to pass me by until now (without having to go to youtube) and having it in HQ is really making me love it! Although it has competition from an unexpected Justin release. So who knows :P I know what you mean about Margaret being more appealing to the "hipsters". I agree with you on 'Begging' too. I do hope there are better tracks still to come! Looking forward to hearing Janet Leon's song. And LOL. I don't think it's physically possible for anyone to love anyone else as much as Phil loves the 'babes or Tone! :lol:
