Posted February 10, 201312 yr Causing a Commotion ● (1987) ● 'Who's That Girl' http://i45.tinypic.com/jzwv9u.jpg Background The second single from her debut soundtrack Who's That Girl, Causing a Commotion was written and produced by Madonna and Stephen Bray (who was responsible for tracks on Like a Virgin and True Blue). Madonna revealed that the track was influenced on her relationship with then husband Sean Penn, whose violent behaviour had put their marriage on the rocks. It was liked by music critics, but not described as anything exceptional: "perfectly acceptable, though not in the same class as Who's That Girl", "...this music is not among her best". However, it's chart success proved somewhat better than the reviews, reaching #2 in Canada and US, #4 in Italy and UK, #6 in New Zealand and #7 in Australia. Madonna has performed Causing a Commotion on her Who's That Girl Tour and Blonde Ambition World Tour - the former performance was used as a music video as no official one had been recorded. Opinion I usually overlook the singles from Who's That Girl as they don't come from a studio album, but I find them a pleasant listen when I do hear them. I do agree with the music critics that these singles aren't her best bits of work, but like I say, they are fine to listen to. Causing a Commotion is probably my least favourite from the soundtrack, with the lead single being my favourite. I really like the Who's That Girl Tour performance: so nice to see her skipping around the stage, having fun, no massive production. February 13, 201312 yr Author I guess a reason why she hasn't performed it since could be that the lyrics are inspired by her ex-husband - I'm sure that's the reason why True Blue has been ignored too. I think Causing a Commotion would fit in nicely with her tours: the lyrics of the chorus could be seen as her relationship with the audience or something: I've got the moves baby, you got the motion/If we got together we'd be causing a commotion
February 13, 201312 yr When I watch the who's that girl tour dvd it's too similar to Into The Groove I think. As for M performing it again its hard for her to do any love songs recently (TB & CAC are definitely songs about Sean but she didn't even bother with Super Star last year).
