Unsurprisingly, the million selling Amarillo is the biggest selling and the massive flop that was "I Knew Him So Well" is the worst selling. Saturdays fans can rejoice as they are in the top 10 and the highest single in the chart that didn't make #1.

I was right when I was thinking how the media definitely jumped too quickly on the conclusion that One Way Or Another will be the biggest selling Comic Relief single in history because - 1D are at no. 12.

They have also been on sale for considerably less time than the others. #12 in just 3-4 weeks is really good TBH.

It is good, but I'm just saying it is laughable how EVERYONE reported 1D single will be the biggest selling Relief single in history.

The reality is, the single is slipping down the charts, it is currently no. 64 in the US - they sold 226K in the UK and 240K in the US so far. Maybe the sale in the UK will increase after the tonight's performance, but I think it won't get much higher sales-wise outside UK. The single peaked at no. 63 in Japan, it was for example no. 1 in Netherlands, but it quickly dropped at 7 and then at 13. Even if they were no.1 in various other countries, the sales are pretty small in general there - for example, I read somewhere that by the end of November 2012, albums in France that were no.1 sold 40K which was considered big...

Yes, it was no.1 on iTunes in 63 countries on the release date, but the single dropped quickly down the chart in the next few days.

That is why I doubt 1D's song will be the biggest selling single in history, while many are reporting right now that it already IS the biggest selling Comic Relief of all time.

Were any of the other Comic Relief singles big worldwide?

One Direction's One Way or Another (Teenage Kicks), Westlife's Uptown Girl and Spice Girls' Mama/Who Do You Think You Are were. The Saturday's Just Can't Get Enough and Cher's Love Can Build a Bridge had some success to an extent.

If you mean red nose day, no, the first red nose day was in 1988. But comic relief, the actual charity, exists and functions continously even when it isn't red nose day, so it was just another fund raising idea rather than a tie-in to one of the days.
Well the Saturdays will be out of the top 10 soon as One Direction will probably surpass them.

Exactly, it's hardly a fair comparison.

How far does everyone think that One Direction will get up to on this list? :D

I am wondering though.. is this just singles in UK or they mean as worldwide? I presume it is the latter…

I mean… wouldn't they have said The Biggest Comic Relief single in the UK then, and not The Biggest Selling singles of All Time.

What do you think?

Still, the media must have been crazy to think One Direction's cover would be able to sell over 1.2 million! :P

Exactly! That is all I'm saying really.

1.2 mln worldwide isn't impossible for 1D

1.2 mln worldwide isn't impossible for 1D

Yes, that is true. However, I know that Tony Christie sold 1.2 million in the UK ALONE. I think that it sold another 400K worldwide...

There is NO way that 1D will sell 1.2 million in the UK.

ID have sold in 3 weeks what 'Amarillo' sold in its first week of release. This was in 2005 - a year notorious for shocking singles sales (UK #1 singles only weeks before this were selling an average of 20k to top the UK chart)

In its 7 weeks at #1, 'Amarillo' sold 932,966 copies. I'll be gobsmacked if 'One Way Or Another (Teenage Kicks)' manages to sell half that amount (ie; 466,483) by the end of 2013. It's also the type of track that once it exits the iTunes top 200, we'll probably never see it ever again. Unless it's reduced to 59p in 2015 and even then it'll be doubtful.

Ahh thanks mate was wondering why it got top3 at Xmas when CR is usually in march was confused.

I agree, I will be also very surprised if that happens. Maybe the sales will be a little higher thanks to yesterday's performance, but that is it. The media just assumed it will be the best selling single in history because it topped iTunes charts in 63 countries.

The irony being iTunes isn't the official chart so it's madness when the media say this. Shows exactly how much they know about other countries charts, yet alone the UK.

Oh, I did forget that 'OWOA' might benefit from the iTunes gift card effect in December (again, doubtful). :heehee:
